Tanjung Malim Famous Wan Ton Noodles @ Tanjung Malim, Perak

Ask anyone from Tanjung Malim who has traveled vastly, where is the best Wan Ton Noodles, they would always say that nothing beats the one from Tanjung Malim and it is indeed true and not an overstatement. This Chinese Auntie has been selling these noodles since my childhood days. Those days the stall used to by the side of Bunga Raya Barber Shop and then they shifted to a number of locations around town. Today, this stall is located by the side of Maybank, Tanjung Malim.

Jalan Chong Ah Peng, Tanjung Malim

Beside Maybank

The Stall
In the mornings, this stall is occupied by another vendor. This Auntie sells above the present wet market on the first floor in the mornings and come noon, she operates from here. It is not difficult to locate this stall. Come to Maybank and look at the far left end, you would observe this stall.

Variety of Add On's to Choose From
There is an indoor seating space as well as a covered outdoor seating area, both of which is quite comfortable. The Auntie prepares all the dishes herself. Besides Kon Low Mee, she also sells Curry Mee and Soup Noodles. There are a number of add on's that one could choose from and therefore it is best to head to the stall and choose the items yourself and inform her and then she would prepare accordingly.

Coca Cola

Chinese Tea

Chinese Herbal Tea

Nescafe @ RM 1.70
The drinks are sold by the restaurant operator. I do not have the breakdown of the prices but I know that the Nescafe is priced at RM 1.70 and this is the most expensive Nescafe in Tanjung Malim. Taste wise, it is good too and I would rate this at 8.8/10 . The total price for the drinks came to RM 5.50 and has to be paid when the drinks are served.

3 Pieces of Wan Ton's in Soup
The Wan Ton Noodles here is simply the best. It comes in choices of two sizes, big and small. Regardless of the size ordered, a small bowl with three pieces of Wan Ton's in clear soup is provided with each plate. The Wan Ton Noodles comes in a lavish amount of soy sauce along with some vegetables and Char Siew. All the ingredients are simply perfect and the noodles itself is soft and bouncy. I would rate this preparation as 10/10 . Whenever I try other places out, I would usually use this as the benchmark to measure others. Definitely a must try if you are a Wan Ton Noodles lover.

Wan Ton's in Clear Soup @ RM 2.00

Wan Ton's in Clear Soup @ RM 2.00
The Wan Ton dumplings are also a winner here. It is relatively big and chewy with delicious meat fillings. We ordered an extra bowl of 10 Wan Ton's and it was only RM 2.00 . This again is served in a delicious and MSG free clear soup. I would rate this at 9.8/10 .

Curry Mee

Curry Mee
The Curry Mee is another recommended dish here. It comes in a thick and delicious curry that wouldn't fail to win anyone's heart. Another must try dish here! I would rate this at 9.2/10 .

Mixed Yong Tau Fu in Curry

Mixed Yong Tau Fu in Curry
Besides the Curry Mee, we also ordered a bowl with a number of Yong Tau Fu items served in the Curry used for the Curry Mee. All these items are made by the Auntie herself and they are really good. I would rate them at 9/10 .

Mixed Yong Tau Fu in Clear Soup

Mixed Yong Tau Fu in Clear Soup
Similar to the earlier dish, this one was served in clear soup. The soup is made without using any MSG and it was absolutely good. I would rate their clear soup at 8.7/10 .

Lunch In Progress

Lunch In Progress
Overall, it was a hearty lunch and for the four of us, the bill came to RM 20.90 only which is a very reasonable price. Definitely great food, speedy service and very reasonable prices! Simply love this place.

Krishna Curry House @ Jalan SS9A/19, Petaling Jaya

It was just two days ago that we visited Krishna's for lunch. Having being hooked on to their Claypot Mutton, my brother and I returned again this evening, this time to try out their Briyani.

We arrived here late evening, somewhere around 6.30 pm and the restaurant was quite empty. It's not unusual to see this but later as it passed 7.00 pm, the crowd started coming in. We wanted to have Briyani but both their Chicken and Mutton Briyani had been sold out. The only thing they had left was their Plain Briyani.

Teh O Ice @ RM 1.20
Whenever I come here, I always order their Teh O Ice as I quite like the preparation here. It is prepared with a lavish amount of tea and not diluted. I would rate this preparation at 9.5/10 .

Plain Briyani Rice

Plain Briyani Rice
The Plain Briyani Rice was served in a huge plate. It was definitely a huge portion and I could do with just half of it. Taste wise, it was very good. I would rate their Briyani rice at 8.9/10 .

Briyani Set @ RM 8.00
Since they were out of the Chicken and Mutton Briyani, they charged us RM 8.00 for the above set. Of course, this is served on the classic banana leaf along with three different vegetables, papadam and pickles.

Cabbage Perattal
Today, the cabbage was prepared slightly different. They have added more turmeric and also added grated coconut into the preparation. Taste wise, it was average. As I have mentioned before, vegetarian dishes here are never good, it is always the meaty preparations that score wonderfully high. I would rate this at 6/10 only.

Vegetable
This veggie too was just above average. Nothing great about it. I would only rate this at 5/10 .

Claypot Mutton @ RM 10.00

Claypot Mutton @ RM 10.00
This is my all time favourite at this restaurant. Without fail, I must order this dish every time I come here and today too, this dish was simply fantastic. The red thick gravy was heavenly spiced along with a mixture of mutton chunks and bones, made this dish a heavenly treat. I am yet to see a restaurant that prepares this dish better. As always, this dish scores a perfect 10/10 . A must try dish!!!

Fried Cuttlefish @ RM 20.00

Fried Cuttlefish @ RM 20.00
The cuttlefish is chosen at their seafood counter. The price is based on the size of the meat cut. We choose a reasonably large one and it was priced at RM 20.00 . The preparation was fantastic. Loved the way it was fried to a crisp. The spices and batter used to coat was also perfect. Definitely one of the best fried cuttlefish preparations in the Klang Valley. I would rate this at 9.6/10

Dinner in Progress
The vegetables aside, the rest of the meal was perfect as expected. Somehow, all their meaty dishes are consistent in taste since the first time I dined at this restaurant some 19 years ago. Love the food here and would return again for more.

Restaurant Curry Leaf @ Damansara Utama, Petaling Jaya

Restaurant Curry Leaf is located in Damansara Utama, along the same row as Sate Kajang Haji Samuri. In Damansara Uptown, this is the second Indian restaurant to open and has been in business for about a year and a half now. I have visited them sometime in April last year and that was to try their banana leaf meals and was generally quite satisfied with the food there. My brother popped in this afternoon and called me out to try a new place, since he has not come here, I decided to bring him here to try out the food.

A Write Up On The Restaurant
This is the branch outlet of the famous Curry Leaf restaurant in Seremban and there has been so many write ups on them in the local newspapers and magazines. I usually don't quite trust these write ups as you could get your close friends to do it for you. Individual blogs like this always gives a better review of the place. The biggest issue when getting to this restaurant is finding a parking bay. That seems to be an incessant challenge in Damansara Uptown.

Worker Heating Up The Dishes

Interior of the Restaurant

Interior of the Restaurant
It was already 4pm when we arrived here and of course at that time, you don't expect to see much crowd in restaurants. We also had to wait for 20 minutes as they were heating up the dishes since they were cooked for lunch and topping them up accordingly. So we waited until they were ready.

Choice of Dishes for the day

Choice of Dishes for the day
There definitely was a good spread of dishes to choose from. There were both a good array of dishes from vegetarian and non vegetarian options.Besides these, you could also opt to try their North Indian dishes which they have a separate menu to choose from. Those dishes are cooked to order unlike the Tamilian dishes.

Coca Cola @ RM 2.20

Soya Bean @ RM 2.20
The can drinks were all priced at RM 2.20 each which is reasonable for Damansara Utama. We then walked over to the curries station and choose our dishes.

White Rice @ RM 2.00

3 Idli's @ RM 3.60
We decided not to go for the Banana Leaf meal. My brother went for a plate of White Rice which came at RM 2.00 per plate. This is definitely on the high side. I went for the Idli's which were priced at RM 1.20 each. I know that these Idli's were breakfast leftovers but I didn't mind as I was not in the mood for rice. Their Idli's were just okay, slightly on the hard side. I would rate them at 6/10 .

Sambar

Sambar
Curries like the above Sambar were provided on the house. Honestly, their Sambar was horrible. There was something seriously wrong with it. I remember trying their Sambar before and it was okay, not sure what went wrong today. As for today's preparation, I would rate this at 3/10 .

Chicken Kulambu
Their Chicken Kulambu was not bad, it was not great but decent. The spices were all balanced and it had a decent flavour. I would rate this at 7/10 .

Vegetable @ RM 3.00

Vegetable @ RM 3.00
This vegetable was very nicely done. It usually takes skill to make this dish as the leaves are generally bitter and it has to have the right mix of grated coconut to make this bitter sweet. The preparation was very nice here and I would rate this at 8.5/10 .

Onion Pakkora's @ RM 3.00

Onion Pakkora's @ RM 3.00
The Onion Pakkora's were once again very good. The pakkora's were not oily and did not have any smell from the oil used. They were crispy, just the way they should be. I would rate this at 8.8/10 .

Mixed Vegetable @ RM 3.00

Mixed Vegetable @ RM 3.00
Their Mixed Vegetables were not really good, in fact it was below average. The vegetables were over cooked and they were soggy. It also lacked flavours which should have been there. I would only rate this at 3.5/10 .

Potato & Brinjals Koottu @ RM 3.00

Potato & Brinjals Koottu @ RM 3.00
This dish was simply fantastic, really one of the best that I have tried. Everything was perfect that there is nothing for me to comment. I would rate this at 10/10 .

Chicken Perattal @ RM 6.00

Chicken Perattal @ RM 6.00
Their Chicken Perattal was good. I am not saying that it was excellent, but it was nice. Tender chicken chunks were wonderfully prepared with spices in a mildly spicy gravy. Definitely a good dish and I would rate this at 8.7/10 .

Mutton Perattal @ RM 7.00

Mutton Perattal @ RM 7.00
Their Mutton Perattal was not up to the mark. Even when I tried this dish the last visit here, it was the same. A let down actually. I would rate this at 6/10 .

Most of their dishes are good except for a few that could have been better. Our total bill today came to RM 35.00 including the drinks which is quite decent for the number of dishes we had and the locality of the restaurant. Apart from improving one or two of their dishes, I would say that they are doing an excellent job here. Definitely a good neighbourhood Indian restaurant.
