Thai Food Stall in Pearl Avenue Corner @ Kajang, Selangor

Pearl Avenue Corner is a famous Chinese Food Court that is located in Taman Berjaya, Kajang. I have blogged about a number of stalls here and this evening, I shall be sharing my dining experience from the Thai Food Stall at this food court.

Pearl Avenue Corner in Taman Berjaya, Kajang

Thai Food Stall Located Right At The End
This food court is mostly active from breakfast till around 4 pm and by then, most stalls are already done for the day. There are only a handful of stalls that open at night's and they too are mostly closed by around 8 pm. I was here this evening at 8.10 pm and sadly, most of them were already sold out and the only one open was this Thai Food Stall. This guy does not do the morning business. He starts at 5 pm and goes on till 10 pm. So, most if not all the patrons would visit his stall when they come here for dinner. The cook is not a Thai guy, I believe he is from Myanmar but his business seemed to be extremely good. I had placed my orders and had to wait close to 40 minutes. That was the volume of orders that he had. In terms of variety, most of the dishes seemed to be the fried noodles or rice type but the good thing was that he had a lot to choose from.

Petai Fried Rice @ RM 7.00

Loads Of Petai
I ordered two dishes actually and the first one to arrive was the Petai Fried Rice. The aroma of this dish of just amazing and the volume of Petai used was very generous. The price of RM 7.00 for this plate of Fried Rice seemed very reasonable to me looking at the generous ingredients. Totally enjoyed it and this would be something that I would recommend. My rating for this plate of Fried Rice would be 9/10.

Tom Yam Soup @ RM 7.00

Tom Yam Soup
Their Tom Yam Soup was just so so. In fact, I found it to be quite ordinary. The flavours were not quite there and theres lot's of room for improvement. My rating for this shall be 6/10.

If you're around Sungai Chua area at night's. I would recommend visiting this Thai Food Stall that is located inside of Pearl Avenue Corner. Their Petai Fried Rice is simply amazing and they are very generous with the ingredients. Not cheap but it's excellent.

Restoran Gulam Maju @ Kajang, Selangor

Restoran Gulam Maju is the only Indian Muslim restaurant that is available in Bukit Mewah 9, Kajang. In fact, it is the only restaurant that is available there. The food here has been nothing great and that is why most people have only been coming for drinks.

The Restaurant At Mewah 9 Residences
Not too long ago, I blogged about the Nasi Lemak at this restaurant which I found to be reasonably good. This entry however is about another new cuisine that had been recently added. They have recently hired a Kelantanese guy in their kitchen who specialises in those South Thailand dishes like Tomyam etc. that we would usually find in those Kelantanese restaurants. Having heard about this new hire, I decided to give his food a try.

Ayam Masak Pedas

Sup Ayam (Chicken Soup)
Their Ayam Masak Pedas was pretty good and I found the portion to be huge, way more than those Kelantanese restaurants and their prices were reasonable. In fact, it would have been good for me to solely order one dish and have just that with rice. The mix of ingredients were decent and I really enjoyed this preparation. My rating for this shall be 8/10. The next dish that I tried was their Sup Ayam. This again was another dish that I quite enjoyed. In fact, I would say that it had a hint of Indian taste to it. I would not even mind having this soup alone for dinner. Again, I would rate this preparation at 8/10 as well.

Kailan Ikan Masin

Sup Tomyam Ayam
Kailan Ikan Masin was again a huge portion. I loved the generous usage of salt fish. The only thing that slacked was the freshness of the vegetable. If only that was better, then obviously it would have been a better dish. Nevertheless, taste wise I would give it 7/10. The Chicken Tomyam Soup was also pretty decent. The flavours were lovely and I enjoyed it as well. Again, another one that I would rate at 7/10.

It is great that Restoran Gulam Maju had recently hired this Kelantanese cook who does prepare some good dishes. Instead of the usual South Indian curries, we can now also have Tomyam and the other varieties under the same roof. Taste wise, I found the dishes to be reasonably good and the portions were huge. Another good option to have here.

Ekkamai Bar & Thai Kitchen @ Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur

A friend of mine recommended giving this place a try saying that the food here was very good and the way that he had been promoting this restaurant really made me want to visit this place. This restaurant is located on Level G2, Block C5 in Solaris Dutamas. Having had a meeting here earlier in the day made it all the more convenient for me and here I am at this restaurant.

Outdoor Seating Area

Value For Money Set Lunches

Tea Time Promotions
This restaurant was not too difficult to find. If you follow the block numbers, you would hardly miss this place. They have a indoor and outdoor seating area and the ambiance was just lovely. Besides the Ala-Carte Menu, one could also go for their set meals which looks pretty good to me.

Cutlery

Iced Green Tea @ RM 10.00

Steamed Rice @ RM 3.00
Ordering was a breeze and the waiters were very professional. In a matter of minutes the cutlery along with the drinks were served. Some may find the pricing here to be a little steep but I guess for the locality, it's quite acceptable.

Green Chicken Curry @ RM 28.00

Spicy Calamari @ RM 20.00
I usually don't go for Green Curry because none of the places that I have come across in Malaysia does it as good as what you get in Thailand. But since this came highly recommended, I went for it. True enough, it was really something and tasted just like the one that you would get in Thailand. Perfectly balanced flavours and it was mildly spicy. My rating for this shall be 9/10. Their Spicy Calamari was another excellent dish. It was so good that I did not even have to go for the dip sauce. Crunchy, juicy and addictive. Again, 9/10 is what this preparation deserves.

Chicken Cashew Nut @ RM 29.00

Kailan @ RM 18.00
The Chicken Cashew Nut was slightly on the spicy side but taste wise, it was heavenly. Very generous with the ingredients and it was awesome. 10/10 would be my rating for this. Their Kailan was another excellent dish. Just look at the freshness of those leaves. 9/10 would be my rating for this.

I have visited most of the premium Thai restaurants in the Klang Valley. Most of them charge premium prices but not everything tastes great there. Ekkamai however does an amazing job with the dishes. Each and every dish that we tried was good, really good and I won't say that their prices are very high. Slightly pricey but it was totally worth it. For great Thai food in the Klang Valley, I would strongly recommend Ekkamai.

Ginger Noi Thai Kitchen @ Cyberjaya, Selangor

Having had the craving for some Thai food, I decided to check out another Thai restaurant that is located in Cyberjaya. Ginger Noi Thai Kitchen is located inside DPulze Mall which is in Cyber 12 area. I believe that they have been around for a while as I do not patronise this mall that often. Most of the time, I have my meals at the restaurants outside since that is more convenient for me.

The Restaurant At Level UG

The Menu
This restaurant is located on Level UG and they are open from 10 to 10 daily. Their menu is pretty comprehensive and they have a huge listing even outside their restaurant with all the prices. Besides individual dishes, they do have some set meals which are reasonably priced between RM 14 to RM 17.

Thai Coffee @ RM 4.90

Red Tomyam Rice Set (Chicken) @ RM 16.90
Ordering was a breeze and their waiters were attentive. In a matter of minutes, the dishes arrived as well. I ordered a glass of Thai Coffee which was priced at RM 4.90 . Very reasonable pricing I would say and it taste pretty good. Very bold in taste and had a rich aftertaste to it. My rating for this shall be 8/10. As for my meal, I went for their Red Tomyam Set which was priced at RM 16.90 . This is a set that comes with a number of items and the main dish is a bowl of Red Tomyam with Rice.

Sweet & Spicy Japanese Tofu

Pickled Cucumber & Tomatoes
There was a piece of Sweet & Spicy Fried Japanese Tofu that was part of the set. Honestly, I felt that it was a let down. The Tofu wasn't fresh and it clearly was one that was cooked way earlier. Even the beancurd skin wasn't up to the norms. Similarly, their Pickled Cucumber & Tomatoes was off too. It wasn't fresh and totally lacked flavours. My rating for both these items shall be 4/10.

Red Tomyam with Chicken

Fried Popiah
The Red Tomyam soup was good. I loved the flavours and they were perfectly balanced. They could have added more chicken but I guess for the price that they charge, that's fine. I would rate this at 7/10. The Fried Popiah was above average only. Nothing to shout about and it would have been better if it was crispy. My rating for this shall be 5/10.

Pandan Chicken @ RM 16.90
This was an add on that we had ordered. The Pandan Chicken was so so as well. I have tasted way better ones and this definitely has room for improvement. It was just not able to captivate me. My rating for this shall be 5/10.

Our Bill
Overall, it was just an okay meal. Reasonable prices and speedy service, but the food could have been better. If you're not too fussy, then their set meals are surely value for money.

Restoran Patong Seafood @ Kajang, Selangor

I have driven past Patong Seafood numerous times in the past and the restaurant had always been full house. In my mind, this was one of those must visit places since they are located pretty close to where I stay. Most often, I had already had my dinner elsewhere and by the time I had got back, I'm kind of too tired to head out and explore new food places. This evening, I had a meeting around this area and having done by 7 pm, I decided to drop by for an early dinner.

Patong Seafood Located Along Jalan Seksyen 3/5, Taman Bukit Mewah

Very Cosy Set Up

Teh O Ice @ RM 1.50
The set up was quite impressive and it was not like the majority of Kelantanese restaurants that are quite bare in design and comes with colourful walls. Both indoor and outdoor seating were available and since it was about to rain, I decided to sit indoors. The decoration was amazing with TV's located in all corners. Service was speedy as well and there many people who were taking orders and these were all systematically managed in a queue. In less than 5 minutes, my drink arrived. I had ordered a glass of Ice Tea and this was priced at RM 1.50 . Reasonable pricing and it was pretty good. My rating for this drink shall be 8/10.

Kailan Ikan Masin @ RM 5.00

Ayam Masak Pedas @ RM 5.00
Their Kailan Ikan Masin was nice but it would have been better if the greens were fresher. Nevertheless, taste wise I have to confess that it was delicious and they were quite generous with the Salt Fish. Ayam Masak Pedas was equally good and it was decently spicy. Decent portions of chicken and the flavours were good. I shall rate these dishes at 7/10 for the previous and 8/10 for the latter.

Tekur Dadar @ RM 1.50

Sup Tomyam Ayam @ RM 5.00
Telur Dadar had sufficient amount of salt but it was a tad too oily. could easily fry another egg which just the oil that was on that plate. This overly greasy feel gave it an unpleasant taste as well. My rating for this shall be 5/10. Chicken Tomyam Soup however turned out to be pretty good. Despite being stingy with the chicken, they did not skimp on the ingredients used to make the soup and it was so good. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

I wouldn't say that the food here was mind blowing. However, the Chicken Tomyam Soup and the Ayam Masak Pedas were two dishes that stood out. The other dishes that we tried still have lot's of room for improvement. On the other hand, the place itself is very cosy and extremely clean. Prices are reasonable despite having spent huge amount of money on the renovations and the service levels were extremely good. Definitely a decent neighbourhood restaurant to visit.

Khrua Thai @ Subang Jaya, Selangor

Khrua Thai is a Halal Thai restaurant that is located in One City Mall. This restaurant is located on the top level where the Sky Glass is. The see through Sky Glass is quite an experience and can be quite scary for some. This is my first time coming here and I was astonished looking at the number of restaurants that were located within this mall.

Elegant Set Up

Hygienically Wrapped

Cutlery

The Menu

Set Meals
The restaurant itself seemed to be very posh in design. Despite being so, the prices were very reasonable. They have a comprehensive menu covering many dishes from Thailand and also another simple Set Lunch menu. In my opinion, both seemed to be very reasonable. Having set such low prices, they have managed to attract a huge customer base. Even this afternoon, this restaurant was running full house. The waiters were very pleasant and efficient as well.

Pandan Tea
This Pandan Tea comes complimentary with the Set Meals. Since there were only the two of us, there's not much we could do with those dishes and hence we decided to just go for the set meals. You could choose to have this cold or warm and I went for the cold one. Very unique taste that it had and very authentic it was. Reminded me of the Pandan Tea that I had had in Chiang Mai. My rating for this shall be 10/10.

Seafood Fried Rice @ RM 10.00
The portions are definitely huge here. This Seafood Fried Rice dish was wonderfully prepared and it wasn't spicy. Came with lots of prawns and shrimp, I found the flavours to be so authentic. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

Fried Tomyam Mee Hoon @ RM 10.00
Their Fried Tomyam Mee Hoon was another excellent dish. It came with lots of squid, shrimps and vegetables and the noodles itself was very tasty. Besides this, the aroma was heavenly. Truly authentic stuff and again, I shall rate this at 9/10.

Tomyam Soup @ RM 28.00

Comes With Huge Prawns
Having come to a Thai restaurant, it would't be right if we did not have some Tom Yam Soup and so, we ordered one which was supposed to be the smallest in size. Priced at RM 28.00 , the soup would have been good for four and it came with lots of large prawns. The soup itself was so delicious, spicy and salty and the flavours were just perfectly balanced. My rating for this would be 10/10.

Red Ruby @ RM 7.00

Thai Cendol @ RM 7.00
To cap our meals, we ordered one Thai Cendol and one Red Ruby, both were priced at RM 7.00 each and they were excellent. Though I am not one who fancies sweet things, this was really good and we totally enjoyed it. For both the items, I would rate them 10/10.

Our Bill
Khrua Thai is one authentic Thai restaurant that serves you delicious food at reasonable prices. The entire set up was posh, the ambience was lovely and the place is perfect for dates as well as family gatherings. Each dish that we tried today was very authentic and reminded me of the dishes that I had tasted in Thailand. Good food, good prices and an awesome ambience.
