Restoran Makanan Laut River View @ Kuala Selangor, Selangor

It has been almost 15 years since my last visit to this restaurant. I do visit Kuala Selangor often but somehow we always end up going to the one beside this. This trip however, we decided to walk in to this one since it has been a very long time we last visited them. This restaurant is located in Pasir Penambang village, right beside the Selangor River and not too far away from Kuala Selangor town. If you're using Waze, it will bring you right to their doorstep.

The Restaurant in Pasir Penambang Village

Business Hours

Two Levels Of Seating Available
This restaurant is open daily from 11 am till 10 pm. The good thing about this restaurant is that it has a much larger seating capacity compared to their neighbours. Another positive thing about this restaurant is that you are able to order in smaller portions as well. If you are not sure as to what to order, do ask for their menu as they have a comprehensive pictorial menu that would help you with your ordering.

Teo Chew Style Steamed Ikan Merah @ RM 54.60

Dried Chili Mantis Shrimps @ RM 19.00
Teo Chew Style Steamed Fish is one of my favourites and I find it best to be done using Ikan Merah. The preparation here was excellent. They were very generous with the ingredients and the fish was very fresh. The sweet flesh and the sour broth was an excellent combination. My rating for this dish shall be 9/10. Very reasonable prices too. The next dish that we tried was their Dried Chili Mantis Shrimps and this was priced at RM 19.00 . Good portions, lovely mix of vegetables and the flavours were excellent. Another one that I would rate at 9/10.

Kailan Stir Fried with Garlic @ RM 9.00

Kam Heong Clams @ RM 14.00
Kailan Stir Fried with Garlic was good as well and I was happy that the leaves were fresh and not overdone. The aromatic garlic flavours weren't too bold and overpowering as well. 9/10 would be my rating for this. Kam Heong Clams were again good and I found their prices to be a steal. Medium sized clams were used and they were generous with the shrimp paste and onions. Slightly on the spicy side but it went perfectly well with White Rice. Another one that I would rate at 9/10.

Salted Egg Crabs (O.5 Kg) @ RM 44.00

Deep Fried Squid @ RM 19.00
This is the first seafood restaurant that I have come across that allows you to order 1/2 Kg of crab. All the other places that I have been to enforces a minimum of 1 Kg. This is great as we got to order more dishes to taste. Taste wise, they were extremely fresh and tasty. Since we had ordered another dish that was prepared the Kam Heong Style, so we had asked for this to be prepared with Salted Eggs and they were pretty generous with it. My rating for this dish shall be 9/10. Similarly, their Deep Fried Squid was another winner too. Crispy batter and juicy meat. Balanced flavours too and there was no trace of oil. 9/10 would be my rating for this dish.

Restoran Makanan Laut River View is indeed an excellent seafood restaurant to visit in Kuala Selangor. The food is fresh, prices are reasonable and you could order in smaller portions as well. Compared to their neighbours, we felt that the food is better here.

Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti @ Kuala Selangor, Selangor

Having been in the mood for some seafood, we decided to do a day trip to Kuala Selangor. This fishing town does offer some very good Chinese seafood at very reasonable prices. Once you're in Kuala Selangor, just keep driving past the old town. Once you've crossed the large bridge that goes over the Selangor River, you'd see a turning on your left shortly ahead which leads into Pasir Penampang area. This fishing village has got so many restaurants to choose from. Most of them are not Halal certified but these two restaurants which are the famous ones, Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti and Riverside Restaurant are Halal certified. This afternoon, we visited Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti.

The Restaurant In Pasir Penampang Area
If you're coming here during the weekends or public holidays, parking can be a huge challenge. My advise would be to either come for an early lunch or a late lunch. Besides having some good seafood, you could also visit the shops here that sell sea produce at very reasonable prices, way cheaper than what you would get in the city. If you're looking for some activity to do after lunch, you could go on one of those eagle feeding tours, firefly sighting tours or even go up Melawati Hill which has so many historical attractions.

Mantau Bun @ RM 4.00

Sweet & Sour Crab (1 Kg) @ RM 90.00

Salted Egg Mantis Prawns @ RM 26.00
There were eight of us this afternoon and that being the case, we could order more dishes. The first one to arrive was the Mantau Bun and Sweet & Sour Crabs. The Mantau Bun was priced at RM 4.00 which I felt to be very cheap and the crabs were priced at RM 90.00 . Not to say the cheapest that I have come across in these seafood towns but it was still cheaper than the cities. I could have the same 1 Kg crabs at Sungai Besar for RM 56.00 . Anyway, the closer the seafood town is to the city, the higher the price that they charge. This is something that I have observed. Nevertheless, it was still worth it. I would rate the Mantau Bun's at 7/10 and the crabs at 8/10. The Salted Egg Mantis Prawns were nice too. They could have been a little more generous with the Salted Eggs, still it was okay taste wise. My rating for this shall be 8/10.

Deep Fried Squid @ RM 25.00

Nestum Prawns @ RM 36.00
The Deep Fried Squid was good. I felt that the portion was good too for the price and the squid itself was tasty. My rating for this shall be 8/10. The Nestum Prawns was again good but the best version of this dish that I have come across in these seafood towns would be the one that I had in Carey Island. Nevertheless, the prawns were fresh and the meat was sweet and tasty. The preparation was decent too and I would rate this dish at 8/10.

Kam Heong Clams @ RM 25.00

Teo Chew Style Steamed Ikan Merah @ RM 42.00
Their Kam Heong Style Clams were nice. The only setback would be the small clams used. It would have been better if they had used the larger ones. Ingredients wise, it was surely good. My rating for this shall be 7/10. Their Teo Chew Style Steamed Fish was decent. Not the best version that I had tasted, but it was still good. Again, 7/10 would be my rating for this.

Stir Fried Okra with Garlic @ RM 12.00

Stir Fried Broccoli with Garlic @ RM 14.00
Both the vegetables were good. Despite both being prepared the same style, both had a unique taste of it's own. We enjoyed both the dishes and my rating for these shall be 8/10. Prices were very reasonable too.

Our Bill For The Day
If you're in the mood for some seafood, then it is worth driving down to Kuala Selangor. With the new LATAR Highway, the journey has been shortened by half and besides the good food, there's so much more to see there as well. Although the prices are no longer as cheap as they once were, still it is worth the drive. Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti is definitely a restaurant that I would recommend.

Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti Seafood @ Pasir Penampang, Kuala Selangor

Kuala Selangor has many attractions but besides these, it is also very famous for it's cheap and good seafood restaurants. Most of the good restaurants are located in Pasir Penampang area. To reach this restaurant, assuming that you are coming in from Kuala Lumpur, keep driving through town until you come to the bridge crossing over Selangor river. Shortly you would see a sign  saying Pasir Penampang on the left. Turn left there and you would come to a t junction. Turn left again. Head 500 meters in and you would come to the restaurants. Two famous ones are Restaurant Jeti Seafood and Restaurant River View. Do note that both the restaurants here are Pork Free and therefore you would find many Muslim customers coming here. They do not have the Halal status as they serve beer in their restaurants. Otherwise, it is Pork Free and even the poultry comes from a Halal supplier.

Restaurant Jeti Seafood

Restaurant River View Seafood
During the last trip, we visited Restaurant River View. The food there is good too but for a change, we decided to try Jeti Seafood instead.

One portion of the restaurant is on level ground and it stretches into the Selangor River and is built on a wooden platform.

For convenience, all the daily prices of the seafood is written on a white board and is placed at the entrance to the restaurant. This is good practice as it shows their transparency to their customers.

Us At The Restaurant

Coca Cola @ RM 2.00

Chinese Tea @ RM 0.40
The Chinese Tea was very cheap. The cheapest I have seen is RM 0.50 per glass and that too is at my hometown. Ordering here is usually quite simple as the lady boss is well versed in English. She would suggest the dishes pr preparation style based on the items that you choose. It is best to come in large groups as you would be able to sample more dishes. Since it was only the three of us, we had only managed to order a limited number of items.

Rice @ RM 0.80
Even a plate of white rice here was much cheaper. In Kuala Lumpur, this would easily be RM 1.50 per plate.

Deep Fried Squid @ RM 10.00

Deep Fried Squid @ RM 10.00
The Deep Fried Squid came at RM 10.00 and the portion was huge. Very cheap indeed! The squids were fried to a golden brown perfection and they had a delicious coating. The squid was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. They were also very fresh, something that you would never get in Kuala Lumpur. I would rate this dish at 10/10 .

Mantis Prawn with Salted Eggs @ RM 10.00

Mantis Prawn with Salted Eggs @ RM 10.00
Another excellent dish at very cheap prices. The Mantis Prawn  was coated with tapioca flour, dipped into salted eggs and fried. They were crispy and the salted eggs were also lavish. A fantastic dish and I would rate this at 9.4/10 .

Steamed Fish with Garlic @ RM 43.00

Steamed Fish with Garlic @ RM 43.00

Steamed Fish with Garlic @ RM 43.00
All the fish used here at this restaurant are salt water fishes. The fish was very fresh and the flesh was so juicy. The preparation too was good and for the price, I think that it's very reasonable. Another highly recommended dish here! I would rate this at 8.9/10 .

Cheese Crab @ RM 60.00 per Kg.

Cheese Crab @ RM 60.00 per Kg.

Cheese Crab @ RM 60.00 per Kg.
Oh my, this was a heavenly dish! The crabs were very fresh and the cheesy broth at the base was very delicious. We were literally using our fingers and licking the plate clean. Excellent dish. This deserves nothing less than a perfect rating of 10/10 .

Lunch In Progress
This place definitely comes highly recommended and I would strongly recommend this place to all friends. The food is good and fresh and the prices are very reasonable. Definitely a place not to miss if you are looking for a seafood feast!
