Dynasty Fire Restaurant @ Hulu Bernam, Selangor

Dynasty Fire Restaurant is a Chinese Restaurant that is frequented by the locals in Tanjung Malim. Despite being located on the Selangor side of town, it draws crowd from both sides. We have been here so many times and have always returned  happy. Since we were looking for a simple place to have a basic Chinese dinner, we decided on returning here this afternoon.

The Restaurant in Taman Weng Cheong, Hulu Bernam

Outdoor Seating Area
This restaurant is located in Taman Weng Cheong, which is along the road heading to Changkat Asa. They have both indoor and outdoor seating areas. The service levels here are good and the waiters are very efficient in manning the crowd.

Kangkung Belacan @ RM 10.00

Butter Prawns @ RM 30.00
Sincere came late this afternoon for a late lunch, we were one of the few last customers at the restaurant before they close at 3 pm for their mid daybreak. That being the case, we got our food pretty fast. The first item that was served was the above Kangkung Belacan. For RM 10.00 , the portions were good and we found their taste to be consistently good.  Quite generous with the belacan as well. My rating for this dish shall be 9/10. The next one that we tried was their Butter Prawns. The again was consistently good and I loved the fact that they were not greasy. Again, one that I would rate at 9/10.

Sizzling Tofu @ RM 13.00

Teo Chew Style Steamed Fish @ RM 40.00
Their Sizzling Tofu was decent. Actually it was all okay but the only thing that was lacking would be the minced meat that was not there. If that had been added, then it would have been perfect. Otherwise, it was still decent and my rating for this shall be 7/10. Their Teo Chew Style Steamed Fish is usually great but today, it was just not there taste wise. Another thing that I didn't like was that the fish was not cleaned well and as such, mud smell was quite evident and that was a huge setback. This was definitely quite disappointing today and my rating for this shall be 4/10.

For decent Chinese food in Tanjung Malim, I would recommend Dynasty Fire Restaurant that is located in Hulu Bernam, Selangor. Food is decent, prices are reasonable and their service levels are excellent. Good variety of seafood too.

Address: No. 9, Taman Weng Cheong, 35900 Hulu Bernam, Selangor.

Restoran Leong Kee & Meng @ Tanjung Malim, Perak

Leong Kee, as it is known to the locals is a famous restaurant that is located in Hulu Bernam, Selangor just after the boundary from Tanjung Malim, Perak. Though it is across the Bernam River, to the locals, this is still considered part of Tanjung Malim though they differ administratively. Previously, they were based right beside the old market in Tanjung Malim and that is where I used to go as a little boy, come to think of it I've been their loyal customers for more than 30 years. Sometime in the early 1990's, they had to move to cater for KTM's double track project and were relocated in a different location just about a 100 meters from the present place. It is only now where they have a physical restaurant and yet the cooking is still done outside like the yesteryears.

In recent years, he had changed the name to Leong Kee & Ming to allow his son to become a partner in the business. The reason food is so good here (besides his cooking) is because they are all cooked using charcoal stoves. He only prepares a handful of dishes but these are highly sought after. There have been numerous write ups about this place in a number of Chinese newspapers including online media and his customers go as far as Singapore. His prices have also just been raised minimally over the 30 plus years that I have been eating here but the food quality has been ever consistent. All his dishes are RM 10.00 flat. There are no various portion sizes and this applies to all his dishes, just one standard size. Since I was here with the family today, I would be able to show you most of his key dishes, just a few to number but all extremely good. Do note that on weekends, he gets a lot of outstation crowd and hence I can take a while before getting your meals. So it is best to come here when time isn't a constraint. On weekdays, it doesn't take that long.

We prefer to sit outdoors usually. The service is generally good as he has his family to assist him. They attend to you swiftly but from around 9 pm onwards, the waiting time can be long for the dishes and so it is advisable to come here around 7+ or for supper at around 10+. He used to be open till 3 am those days but now, he keeps it till midnight. He too has aged and needs his time for rest.

Pepper Soup @ RM 10.00

This Pepper Soup is the second most sought after dish here. This Pepper Soup comes in two choices, with or without noodles. The noodles used is the usual Rice Vermicelli. This soup is filled with cabbage and pork slices and with a whole load of pepper that gets you sweating to all glory the moment you take the first sip. The Pepper he uses is not the common pepper but one that is purchased at those Chinese Medical Halls, and a very pricey one too. An excellent dish! Good also for a cold night and especially when one is having flu. One has got to try this at least once and you'd love it. Guaranteed satisfaction! I would rate this dish at 10/10 . Even the ones available in Damansara Hokkien Mee or Sentul Ah Yap does not come anywhere close to this. Those are like child's play when compared to this one at Leong Kee.

Moonlight Char Kuey Teow @ RM 10.00
This is by far the most sought after dish here. Usually by around 10 pm, the Kuey Teow is sold out. It comes with a raw egg on the top and has to be mixed thoroughly. Something that you would not be able to find elsewhere except for Kim Lian Kee in Petaling Street. Both of them invented this Moonlight Char Kuey Teow dish at around the same time. An absolutely delicious dish. The dish itself comes with lots of cabbage and pork and once mixed with the egg, gives such a creamy taste. I have seen many people, including those that I have brought, been put off by the sight of the raw egg but once they tasted the dish, they were hooked on to it. Even today, I still have cousins of mine who tried this in their chidhood, keep mentioning about this dish to me and how good it was. And that's like after 20 plus years. This itself should be an indicator as to how good this dish is. Though Kim Lian Kee has the same, I have tasted both and for me, Leong Kee is the winner. That previous does not come anywhere close to this latter preparation. Again I would rate this 10/10 .

Hokkien Mee @ RM 10.00
This Hokkien Char Mee is the third most famous dish here, also the best Hokkien Char Mee in town! Before I speak more about the dish, I would like to mention that he makes his own noodles and not one that is purchased from those factories. This is a tradition that he had learned from his late mother and now, even his son does it so well. The noodles itself are so soft, creamy and delicious. The preparation comes with generous amount of lard, pork slices, pork liver and some cabbage and together, they are just amazing. I have tried 8 of the top 10 Hokkien Char Mee places in Kuala Lumpur and for me, this tops them all! I would rate this at 10/10 again! Ask any TM person, even those who have left town for decades.... Where is the best Hokkien Mee and they would all unanimously mention Leong Kee. A taste that would forever linger in our mind.

Homemade Chili Paste With Belacan
This is another amazing preparation that is found here. He makes them on his own and this is a must have with the Hokkien Char Mee. I could personally finish three servings of this for my portion of Hokkien Char Mee as it is so good. Another item that must not be missed here. I would rate this preparation at 10/10 .

Cabbage Stir Fried With Dried Shrimps & Rice Wine
This is another highly sought after dish at this restaurant. It may seem like a simple cabbage dish but you have got to taste it in order to truly appreciate it. My rating for this is nothing less than 10/10.

Despite having only a handful of dishes, they are all highly sought after. Cooking is still done using charcoal stoves and that surely adds to the taste. Whether you're going for the Loh Mee, Hokkien Mee, Moonlight Char Kuey Teow, Stir Fried Cabbage with Rice Wine & Dried Shrimps or Pepper Soup, they are all truly excellent and you'd definitely return a satisfied person. A highly recommended restaurant in Tanjung Malim.

Dynasty Fire Restaurant @ Hulu Bernam, Selangor

Dynasty Fire Restaurant is a rather new restaurant that had taken over from the previous management. I have blogged about this place sometime in July 2017, that was when they had just taken over the place. Being impressed with the food, we decided to come back this afternoon for lunch. This restaurant is located in Taman Weng Cheong which is on the Hulu Bernam side of town along Jalan Changkat Asa. The restaurant has two sections, an air-conditioned dining hall and another open space. Service is speedy here and the reception that you get is warm too.

Teo Chew Style Steamed Fish @ RM 34.20
This Teo Chew Style Steamed Fish is a dish that I absolutely love and the preparation here is quite good. The pickled vegetables aren't too sour and that makes the dish to be not overpowered by a strong sourness. The mix of ingredients were good too and not forgetting the portion which I felt to be very reasonable price wise. My rating for this dish shall be 7/10.

Sizzling Tofu @ RM 13.00
Their Sizzling Tofu was above average for me. I would have preferred for it to have some egg at the base and a little more of minced pork. The volume of Japanese Tofu however was satisfactory. My rating for this shall be 7/10.

Sweet & Sour Pork @ RM 15.00

This Sweet & Sour Pork was an excellent preparation. The meat pieces were excellent and coated in some crispy batter and the blend of vegetables along with the sauces were just perfect. Loved this! I would rate this dish at 9/10.

Butter Prawns @ RM 33.00
Another good dish that we all enjoyed. The batter was just perfect and the prawns were wonderfully done. Loved the flavours! My rating for this shall be 8/10. The only grievance would be the slightly high prices. Otherwise, it was a good dish.

Kam Heong Clams @ RM 16.00
Their Kam Heong Clams was lip smacking good. The curried dried shrimp paste was thick and they were very generous with it. They had not ground the dried shrimps finely and that too helped boost the taste. Something different to the norms and it was surely a welcomed change. The price was another huge surprise as well. I expected this dish to be somewhere close to RM 20.00 + but it was a mere RM 16.00 . A deal and dish that one should not miss. Excellent it was and I would rate this at 10/10.

Overall, we were quite happy with the dishes and the prices seemed reasonable too. Most of the dishes tasted pretty good as well. This would definitely be a place that I would be visiting more often. A good Chinese restaurant to visit if you happen to be in Tanjung Malim / Hulu Bernam area.

Cutlery In Hot Water
We prefer to sit outdoors usually. The service is generally good as he has his family to assist him. Where is the best Hokkien Mee and they would all unanimously mention Leong Kee. A taste that would forever linger in our mind.

Stir Fried Cabbage with Rice Wine & Dried Shrimps
This is another excellent dish that you must have at this stall. The cabbage is still fresh and sweet and it takes a great skill to cook it that way. The mixture of Rice Wine and Dried Shrimps adds a twist of flavour to this dish. Another highly recommended dish at this stall. My rating for this shall be 10/10 as well.

Moonlight Char Kuey Teow @ RM 10.00
This is by far the most sought after dish here. Usually by around 10 pm, the Kuey Teow is sold out. It comes with a raw egg on the top and has to be mixed thoroughly. Overall, this is an excellent place to visit for dinner or supper. I have introduced this place to many of my friends from Kuala Lumpur and they did make day trips just to try this place out and the feedback have all been very positive. I am yet to meet someone who would say that the food here is bad or only average. One of the fantastic food places in Tanjung Malim that should be a 'Must Visit' for Chinese food fans. Besides the above, his other notable dishes are also his Loh Mee and Cantonese Style Fried Noodles (Hor Fun or Yin Yong as some may call, depending on the region). For directions, assuming you are coming using the North South Highway, after the Tanjung Malim exit, keep left and turn in to the very first exit on your left. Keep going straight and you would pass a Tamil School on your left. Shortly ahead, there would be some tractors/ old Range Rover's that are parked on your left (in a large open land). Do slow down here as this restaurant would be visible shortly on your right. Parking is usually taken up near the restaurant and most people would just park by the side of the road, which is quite safe. Alternatively, they are okay with customer's calling them and asking for directions. I have provided the mobile phone number below. Please do call them and they would gladly assist.

Restoran Ah Zai @ Hulu Bernam, Selangor

Restaurant Ah Zai is a place that needs no introduction among the locals here in Tanjung Malim. Having started sometime in June 2015, their business and reputation has been steadily growing over the months and they are mostly full house daily. Business starts at around 6 pm and goes on till 11 pm. Their main dishes are Curry Mee, Kon Low Mee (Wan Tan Mee), Soup Noodles, Asam Laksa and a variety of Yong Tau Fu items. There has been days when even at 8.30 pm, most of their items had been sold out. I believe I have blogged about them in the past, once when they first started and once more, when they introduced a Chicken Chop dish in their menu. Of late, another new addition that has been a hot seller here is their Char Kuey Teow. For me, it's almost mandatory that I have to have it at least once a week and I wonder how I missed blogging about that dish.

As always, I arrived at around 6.30 pm. Luckily it was a rainy day and most of the Tofu items were still available. They have an open counter where all the items are placed and customers can select what they would like to have and then instruct them as to how they would like to have them. Being one who comes here often, they know me pretty well and I have the liberty of walking into their work zone and pick those items myself. Having done that, I requested them to add some curry to it and got myself a table at the far end of the restaurant.

Being somewhat new, they had spent some good deal of money renovating the restaurant. The place looked clean and nice, loved their tile selection too. Somehow, most people prefer sitting outdoors as it is much cooler.

Curry Mee With Some Add On's
As always, the Curry Mee at this restaurant is awesome. Those who are health conscious may find it to be on the oily side but taste wise, it is really good. Even their Yong Tau Fu items are tasty. My rating for this Curry Mee would be 9/10. If you're looking for a good place to have Curry Mee in Hulu Bernam, Restoran Ah Zai would be my pick.

Kedai Makanan Dan Minuman KR Caterers @ Hulu Bernam, Selangor

Whenever we have some function at home, we would most often cater from KR Caterers. KR Caterers are located on the Hulu Bernam side of town, right opposite the Petron Station. It is a restaurant that only does breakfast. They do not do lunch or dinner as their catering business is quite huge and attending to that itself keeps them really busy. Most often, you would have to book at least two weeks ahead of your event, just to be on the safe side. There is no real minimum order quantity. Even if you want to order for ten people, they would accommodate it. Similarly, you could leave them to buy all the meat items or you could get it yourself as well. They are quite flexible in that way.

Ghee Rice

Mutton Perattal With Potatoes
As always, their Ghee Rice was perfect. They are usually quite generous with the ingredients and even when you order for a smaller number of people, you would usually get much more. I would rate their Ghee Rice at 9/10. Mutton Perattal was another good dish. We had asked for more potatoes and they added really quite a bit. The gravy was thick and nice and it wasn't too spicy. My rating for this shall again be 9/10.

French Beans Perattal

Cuttlefish Perattal with Gravy
The French Beans Perattal was just okay. I guess they may have prepared it very early in the morning or perhaps sometime late last night. In fact, it was a little overcooked as well. I would rate this at 7/10. The Cuttlefish Fish Perattal was awesome. Once again cooked with lots of potatoes and it came with some gravy which was just fantastic with the Ghee Rice. This was slightly on the spicy side and it was absolutely heavenly. My rating for this shall be 10/10.

Masala Crab

Ayam Masak Merah
Their Masala Crabs were another excellent dish. The Masala itself was so thick and nice and the dish as a whole was excellent. 9/10 would be my rating for this dish. Their Ayam Masak Merah has a South Indian touch to it and it's not quite the same as the one's that you would get from Malay caterers. This was much more spicier and lots of spices were used. My rating for this shall be 9/10 as well.

Prawn Sambal

Vegetable Kurma
The Prawn Sambal was really spicy and they were very generous with the ingredients. In fact, they had used lemongrass as well to give it that authentic taste. 9/10 shall be my verdict for this. Their Vegetable Kurma this time around wasn't up to my expectations. Not sure who made this dish but it surely wasn't the same. I felt that it was a little flat taste wise and they had added too much vegetables. This was the only disappointing dish and my rating for this shall be 6/10.

Contact Details
If you're looking for a good South Indian caterer to work with in Tanjung Malim, KR Caterers would be my choice. Food is extremely good and they are very generous with the ingredients. And it's best to place your booking at least two weeks in advance. Price wise, they are definitely premium and my recommendation would be to finalise the pricing at the point of booking. If you don't mind spending a little more for good food, then this would be the best carers to work with.

Dynasty Fire Restaurant @ Hulu Bernam, Selangor

Dynasty Fire Restaurant is a rather new restaurant that had taken over from the previous management. I have blogged about this place sometime in May, that was when they had just taken over the place. Being impressed with the food, we decided to come back this afternoon for lunch.

Dynasty Fire Restaurant In Taman Weng Cheong

A Very Clean Set Up
This restaurant is located in Taman Weng Cheong which is on the Hulu Bernam side of town along Jalan Changkat Asa. The restaurant has two sections, an air-conditioned dining hall and another open space. Service is speedy here and the reception that you get is warm too.

Dry Chilli Squid @ RM 13.00
Their Dry Chilli Squid was very good. In fact, I was surprised when I saw the bill later on and this dish only cost us RM 13.00 . The portions were huge, the dish was mildly sweet and spicy and overall it was an enjoyable dish. I would rate this at 9/10.

Sizzling Tofu @ RM 12.00
Their Sizzling Tofu was above average for me. I would have preferred for it to have some egg at the base and a little more of minced pork. The volume of Japanese Tofu however was satisfactory. My rating for this shall be 7/10.

Deep Fried Fish with Vinegar @ RM 34.20
The deep fried fish was perfectly done. However, the soy sauce and vinegar mix was a little off. It ended up being a tad too salty and that killed the dish. Otherwise, the fish itself was good. Another one that I would give 7/10.

Kangkung Belacan @ RM 8.00
This Kangkung Belacan dish was heavenly. They were very generous with the dried shrimp paste (Belacan) and that definitely helped to boost the taste. Amazing this was and it deserves a 9/10.

Butter Prawns @ RM 23.00
Another good dish that we all enjoyed. The batter was just perfect and the prawns were wonderfully done. Loved the flavours! My rating for this shall be 8/10.

The Bill
Overall, we were quite happy with the dishes and the prices seemed reasonable too. Most of the dishes tasted pretty good as well. This would definitely be a place that I would be visiting more often. A good Chinese restaurant to visit if you happen to be in Tanjung Malim / Hulu Bernam area.

Dynasty Fire Restaurant @ Hulu Bernam, Selangor

Dynasty Fire Restaurant is the newest Chinese restaurant in Tanjung Malim. This restaurant is on the Hulu Bernam (Selangor) side of town and they have taken over the business from Ah Lek Seafood some months back. Each time I pass this restaurant, the place seems crowded and this is also the case on weekdays. We wanted to visit them much earlier but time did not permit. Finally having had a long weekend, we decided to drop by for dinner.

Dynasty Fire Restaurant in Taman Weng Cheong, Hulu Bernam

Open Air Seating

Cutlery
I truly wonder why Ah Lek Seafood had to sell the business. Business was good for them and they had spent a lot on renovations. In fact, they were doing very good right from the day they opened. Anyway, these new guys have taken over and I am glad to see the same kind of response. This restaurant has two seating sections, an open air area and another air-conditioned dining hall. There is no menu for one to glance but they do highlight their current offers in terms of seafood right outside the restaurant. Since they buy in bulk and fast moving, they do get some very good offers which trickles down to customers.

Kam Heong Clams @ RM 13.00
Their Kam Heong Clams was lip smacking good. The curried dried shrimp paste was thick and they were very generous with it. They had not ground the dried shrimps finely and that too helped boost the taste. Something different to the norms and it was surely a welcomed change. The price was another huge surprise as well. I expected this dish to be somewhere close to RM 20.00 but it was a mere RM 13.00 . A deal and dish that one should not miss. Excellent it was and I would rate this at 10/10.

Salted Egg Squid @ RM 15.00
Another very satisfying dish from Dynasty Fire Restaurant. The squid was fried to a golden brown perfection and topped with a batter of salted eggs, curry leaves and dried chillies. Not only was it tasty, the squid was very fresh as well and that gave it a sweet, tasty texture. I would happily give this dish 9/10.

Sweet & Sour XL Prawns @ RM 23.00
When this Sweet & Sour Prawn dish arrived, I was taken aback looking at the size of those prawns and in my mind, I had already expected this dish to cost around RM 40 to RM 50. And when the bill came, it was just RM 23.00 . That's an excellent deal for six extra large prawns which is larger than an male adult's palm. Price aside, even taste wise it was good and the overall presentation along with the ingredients were fantastic. I would definitely give this 10/10.

Steamed Fish with Chili Paste @ RM 19.00
This was another dish that shocked us price wise. A fairly huge fish that was steamed and topped with delicious chili paste and it was priced at RM 19.00 only. Taste wise, it was surely good and I would give this 9/10.

The Bill
This was definitely one meal that shocked us price wise. RM 19 for the fish, RM 23 for the prawns, RM 15 for the squid and RM 13 for the clams; this is a pricing that one could only dream of in Kuala Lumpur. Taste wise, they were all quite impressive as well. I am certain that we would be coming here more often in the future. Good food and cheap prices are hard to come by these days.
