Kon Loh Mee Stall @ Bandar Sri Damansara, Kuala Lumpur

Day before yesterday, I had posted an entry about one of the very famous Kon Loh Mee places in the Klang Valley. Today, I shall share another place that makes some excellent noodles that is based in Bandar Sri Damansara. Of course, this place is not as famous as the other one as this is just another stall selling Wan Tan Mee in a day to day coffee shop. Nevertheless, I felt that the noodles was fairly good hence the share.  It's just a simple stall in a everyday Chinese coffee shop located in Bandar Sri Damansara. This restaurant called Restaurant Woh has a number of stalls that are quite famous, namely their Penang Prawn Mee stall, the Char Kuey Teow stall and a Hakka Pork Ball Mee stall. It was by chance that I decided to try his stall as I observed that there were many customers that were placing orders with him and the photographs of the dishes that were displayed looked pretty appetising as well. Before speaking further about this dish, let me give you the directions to this place. To give directions to this place can be quite tricky as there are so many entrances to Bandar Sri Damansara. But to keep it simple, once you see Mc Donalds on your right, turn right at the next traffic light and then turn right again. The first shop at the corner is Restoran Woh. Just follow the above directions and you can't go wrong. Parking is a hassle here and one would need to be prepared to walk quite a bit.

The Stall Located in Restoran Woh
This guy sells both Curry Mee as well as Wan Tan Mee and from my observation, the Wan Tan Mee orders seems to be more than the Curry Mee and these are basically people that work around this area. So, if it is one that comes from regular customers, then it definitely has got to be good and that was how I was enticed to try this dish. The owner, a gentleman probably in his mid 50's is a very soft spoken man. Despite being busy preparing the dishes, he always looks at his customers and smiles at them when they place the orders. Prices are clearly stated on the side of the stall and therefore there wasn't much for me to ask him and it was a straight forward ordering process. Once done, I returned to my table and waited for the dish to arrive.

Kon Loh Mee (Small) @ RM 5.50
The Kon Loh Mee was sent over to the table in less than 10 minutes. That's not too long a wait. Honestly, I expected to wait much longer based on the pending orders. Luckily, he's a fast worker. The above dish is the small sized one and it was priced at RM 5.50 . Fairly good portion size for the price. The noodles were extremely good. They tasted very similar to the one that I get in Tanjung Malim. I know the lady back in Tanjung Malim makes her own noodles and I clearly remember the taste as I have been eating there for more than four decades now. Coming back to this, I wonder if they had learned from the same master. One thing for sure was that it wasn't the factory made noodles. That I am rather certain. The texture of the noodles itself was so different and one can easily tell the difference. As for the noodles, I would rate it at 9/10. Another excellent thing or perhaps two about this dish is the fact that he had not been stingy with the sauces and the extremely fresh greens. Looking at the colour itself was so soothing.

Char Siew Was Good Too
The Char Siew was pretty good as well. Of course this is nowhere in comparison to the one that I had posted a few days back but for a common man's stall, this is considered good. They were soft, medium sized cuts and rather lean meat was used. If I was to rate their Char Siew, I would give it a 7/10.

Dumplings In Clear Soup
As part of the set, I had also been served some dumplings in clear soup. I had actually counted and there were four Wantons and that's a good deal for the price bearing in mind that this was part of the set and not one that I had added on. The Wantons were fresh and that was a great thing. I really hate it when I am served food items that taste stale. The pork meat however was quite little and the majority of it was the flour coating. Still, I would not complain as it was quite decent taste wise. For this, I shall give it a rating of 7/10.

In summary, this was definitely a good plate of noodles. Each ingredient complemented each other so well. Definitely a place that I would recommend in Bandar Sri Damansara.

Hakka Pork Ball Mee Stall @ Bandar Sri Damansara, Kuala Lumpur

Calling all Hakka Pork Ball Mee fans! If this is one of your favourite dishes, then you should give this stall a try. It's just a simple stall in a everyday Chinese coffee shop located in Bandar Sri Damansara. This restaurant called Restaurant Woh has a number of stalls that are quite famous, namely their Penang Prawn Mee stall and the Char Kuey Teow stall but little did I know that this Hakka Pork Ball Mee guy does serve some excellent noodles too.

The Hakka Pork Ball Mee Stall
With the number of orders that have been continuously coming in, the gentleman was quite busy preparing the dishes. Basically, there were just three different types of noodles to choose from and on his stall, he has placed the pictures and the prices for each one of those varieties. Generally across all the dishes, a small bowl is priced at RM 6.00  and a big bowl at RM 6.50 . Simple as that. I decided to go for the soup type as that requires an extra skill of perfecting the soup itself and that would be a fantastic gauge for me to judge. I then mentioned the dish, pointed at the table that I was sitting and back I was and in less than ten minutes, my order was served.

Hakka Pork Ball Noodles Soup @ RM 6.00 (Small)
When the dish arrived, it was such a beauty to look at. The noodles and the soup looked great and the minced pork, Taiwanese sausage and Pork Balls looked very inviting. Without wasting another minute, I started enjoying this bowl of goodness.

Minced Pork Was Heavenly
Firstly, the soup itself was so good. There weren't any traces of MSG added to it as it would usually bring about a sudden urge to drink lots of water. That did not happen today and so, it's either very minimally added or none at all. Besides the soup, the minced pork was heavenly. I could order just a bowl of that and have it on it's own.

One Of The Best Pork Balls That I Have Had
I wonder how he makes these Pork Balls. They were another delight and it was so delicious. Chewy, juicy and oh, it was just fantastic!

Taiwanese Sausages (Lap Cheong)
I wonder if he makes these as well as it was huge. Very much bigger compared to the ones that we get in the market and it wasn't as sweet with lesser lard. Tasted just perfect for this noodles. Again, another ingredient that I totally loved.

In summary, this was a fantastic bowl of noodles and I would give this a 9/10. Each ingredient complemented each other so well and none were too bold for the base soup. I have tried the same dish many times over and none have come close to this. Definitely a place that I would recommend and it's worth travelling the distance.

Uncle Lim's Penang Prawn Mee Stall @ Bandar Sri Damansara, Kuala Lumpur

If you are a Penang Prawn Mee (Har Mee) fan, then this is a place that you should not miss. Uncle Lim's Penang Prawn Mee is just a humble stall inside Restoran Woh that is located in Bandar Sri Damansara, Kuala Lumpur. Many food bloggers have also listed this place as the Top 5 Penang Prawn Mee outlets in the Klang Valley and I would definitely agree with all of them. I have been a customer for over five years now and have always returned with a happy tummy.

The Stall in Restoran Woh
Initially, Mr. Lim used to prepare the dishes but nowadays, he's hired some Indonesian workers and basically they are the one's who run the stall. Nevertheless, it is still him who prepares the broth and therefore you can be assured of the quality. Not a single day where the broth has slacked. Another thing, finding a table for lunch at Restoran Woh can be quite a challenge. There have been day's that I had to wait almost fifteen minutes before being able to seat myself. So please do be prepared for that as well. Alternatively, come for an early or late lunch. Still, do expect a crowd but it isn't that bad.

Different Ad On's To Choose From
There is the standard dish which is priced at RM 5.50 and you have a variety of add on's to choose from. Right from adding extra egg to having Pork Ribs (Pai Kuat) or large shrimps, this would surely be a delight for all Har Mee lovers. Prices have been consistently going up over the years but still, it is truly worth it. Do expect to wait a while as she usually has quite a number of orders.

Penang Prawn Mee with Extra Egg @ RM 6.50
Since I came for a late lunch at 2.00 pm, I got my orders rather fast today. The above is the Har Mee version with extra egg and this was priced at RM 6.50 . It came with a mix of Mee / Mee Hoon just as I had requested, dried shrimps, some shrimps, pork slices, beansprouts, a whole egg in a super delicious broth.

The Chili Paste is excellent too.
As always, it was a lovely bowl of Har Mee. The main thing for this dish is the broth and the preparation here is just amazingly good and guarantees to quench your thirst for a good bowl of Har Mee. And yes, the chili paste provided is a must have as it add's a mild spiciness to the overall flavours. I would surely give this a 9/10. What more should I say. Just head over and give this place a try and you'd certainly return happy and satisfied.

Sri Damansara Giant Curry Puffs @ Bandar Sri Damansara, Kuala Lumpur

Bandar Sri Damansara is a small township that is located in between Damansara Perdana and Prima Damansara. There are so many access roads heading into this township, such is the amazing planning done by the developers. This Giant Curry Puffs that I mentioned is sold by the Petron Station that's located in Bandar Sri Damansara along Persiaran Perdana. I am not sure who the supplier is but I have been coming here for years now to enjoy one of the best Giant Curry Puffs that I have come across in the Klang Valley.

Petron Service Station in Bandar Sri Damansara

A Variety Of Food Available
Previously, this used to be an Esso Service Station and I am sure all of you know that Esso carries this concept of Food On The Go and has some nice Cafe's built inside some of their stations and this is one of them. They have a number of food options here right from roasters to burgers and even snacks like these. There are tables for you to have your meal here but I mostly do takeaways. The Curry Puff is a hot seller. Best to come before 1 pm as it tends to get sold out mostly by 2 pm. I believe that the supply comes in daily at around 10 am. If you are planning on coming here, it is best to use the old Kuala Selangor Road from the LDP. After the LDP Sri Damansara Toll, keep going straight till you come to the traffic lights. At this lights, turn left and go on. You'd pass a large Courts Mammoth on your left and shortly ahead, would be able to see this Petron Station. Not very difficult to find and it is just before the Sri Damansara Hotel.

Egg Curry Puffs @ RM 1.40 each

Perfect Bite Size

Mildly Spicy Potato Masala and Half a Hard Boiled Egg

Mildly Spicy Potato Masala and Half a Hard Boiled Egg
Besides the Giant Curry Puff, this Egg Curry Puff is one of my favourites. This is priced at RM 1.40 each and comes in a perfect bite size. The contents are made up from some mildly spicy Masala Potato and half a hard boiled egg. It's not at all spicy and would be suitable for all. Nice for a quick snack. I would rate these at 8.5/10 . Recommended!

Giant Curry Puffs @ RM 1.50 each

Palm Size

Filled With Spicy Potato Masala

Delicious
These Giant Curry Puffs are filled with some spicy Potato Masala and they are a treat to any Curry Puff lover. The fillings are compact, end to end and they are spicy and so tasty. One of this is good to replace a meal. A highly recommended one here and I would rate this at 9.5/10 . Must try!

Currently they are running a promotion for Curry Puffs. Any two for RM 2.50 which is a good deal. If you happen to be in this locality, don't miss the opportunity to try these Curry Puffs. You'd surely return for more.

Mandolin Cafe at Sri Damansara Club @ Bandar Sri Damansara, Kuala Lumpur

Mandolin Cafe which is also known as Elsie Jo Cafe is located in Sri Damansara Club which is a sports and recreational club located in Bandar Sri Damansara. Recently I saw a posting on Facebook saying that they have started serving Banana Leaf Meals at this restaurant and that excited me. This is specifically available daily from 1 pm until 3 pm. As they are located not far away from where I am, I decided to drop by for lunch today.

Sri Damansara Club

Lovely View From The Restaurant

Lovely View From The Restaurant

Mandolin Cafe

Mandolin Cafe
Being a weekday, the place was quiet when we arrived with just a handful of customers. It seems that this restaurant is run by a Portuguese gentleman and is more of a family run business. The place operates as a restaurant cum pub. The view from the restaurant is beautiful. It's so green all over and this has a soothing effect.

The Menu has a wide range of dishes and the prices are'Club' prices. That's acceptable to me. Having already decided that we wanted to have the Banana Leaf Meals, I placed the orders with the waitress and she mentioned that she has to check with the kitchen first to see if it is available. I was instantly disappointed but glad that when she came back to me saying 'Yes'. With that she disappeared.

Cutlery

Coca Cola @ RM 4.00
In about 10 minutes time, she came back with the cutlery and placed it on the table. I ordered a Coke and that too was served. The Coca Cola is priced at RM 4.00 and that's acceptable bearing in mind that this is a club house.

Iced Lemon @ RM 7.00

Iced Lemon @ RM 7.00
My brother's drink arrived only after 20 minutes and that too after numerous times waving at her and asking for the drink. They seriously have a staff shortage problem. After time was passing we were seriously loosing our patience. The drink was just so so and priced at an exorbitant rate of RM 7.00 . I would only rate this at 7/10 .

Leaf On A Plate
I was expecting a leaf but what we got was a leaf on a plate which is cute in itself. They only placed this plate in front of us after 30 minutes had gone. Still no sign of the rice and the rest of the dishes.

Banana Leaf Meal Set @ RM 7.00 per person

Only after 1 hour, the rice and vegetables came. It was only then that I realised that all the dishes including the rice, vegetable, curries were cooked from scratch. It is good that we get fresh dishes but the wait time of 1 hour is simply too long. It is not even practical for those who just have an hour's lunch break to come here for lunch. It would have been good if a certain amount had been cooked and kept as they are heavily advertising this on Facebook and other social medias. The rice here is one off and you cannot add on later like the typical Banana Leaf Meal concept.

Vegetable

Vegetable
The vegetable came in a separate plate and the volume was not much. I was shocked to see that they only serve one vegetable with the set when the menu says 'vegetables' and the photo shows a meal with three vegetables. This is serious misrepresentation. But I was not in the mood to argue as we were already jumping on the waitress a number of times as the meal was delayed. We were actually glad that the food had finally arrived. Coming to the taste, the vegetable was actually very delicious. It was one of the best Cabbage Perattal that I have tried. Anytime better that what you get in most restaurants. I would rate this at 9.5/10 . Very delicious! Do note that top ups are chargeable at RM 2.00 .

Papadam
The Papadam was good too. Well, as we know now, they were just fried minutes ago and therefore should be crispy and good. There are no free top ups for the Papadam too and they are chargeable at RM 2.00 per top up.

Sambar

Sambar
They provided us with three different curries and I decided to try their Sambar first. The Sambar was really good. I would not say that it was thick but the flavours were simply good. There were lots of vegetables too which were added into the Sambar. I would rate this at 9/10 . Definitely good!

Fish Curry

Fish Curry

Fish Curry
Their Fish Curry was awesome! Just look at the colour of the gravy. It was amazing. The curry was thick, mildly spicy and it was just perfect. There is just no room to complain as it was a perfect preparation. This deserves a perfect rating of 10/10 . A must try curry here.

Chicken Curry

Chicken Curry
The Chicken Curry was a disappointment. Everything was good except that it was way too salty. Must have been a preparation error here. When the other two curries were so good, it can't be that this curry had gone wrong as a lack of skill, definitely a misjudgment when adding the salt. A dish gone wrong is still a dish gone wrong and I would only rate this at 3/10 . I still remember clearly at this point when we were almost done with the meal but the plate of Chicken Perattal had still not arrived and I had to go to the kitchen to check if at all it is coming. And it was just about this time, that is after 1 hour and 20 minutes from the time that we placed our orders, that we got our plate of Chicken Perattal.

Rasam

Rasam

Rasam
Their Rasam too was very good. The preparation was thick and it was filled with lavish amounts of spices making it absolutely great. This is definitely one of the best Rasam's in town. I would rate this at a perfect 10/10 .

Chicken Perattal @ RM 7.00

Chicken Perattal @ RM 7.00
The long awaited Chicken Perattal finally arrived. For the price of RM 7.00 , I would say that the portion was small, just a mere 6 chunks of chicken which were mostly bones. This was another dish that had technically gone wrong. The gravy that you see in the dish tasted absolutely great but the chicken was flat and tasteless. It was like munching on unflavored steamed meat. The reason for this is clearly because of the meat being frozen and not let to thaw before cooking. Only in this scenario would this situation happen where the gravy would not be able to seep into the meat thus making it tasteless. For me, this is a failed dish and I would only rate it at 2/10 . If only the meat was allowed to thaw and defrost much longer, from the taste of the gravy, it would have been a fantastic dish. But on the contrary, that would have meant that we would only receive this dish after 2 hours of waiting.

The Bill
The dishes here were definitely good except for the two items which went wrong due to a technique error but the wait time was simply not acceptable. The other thing that I was unhappy with was the fact that they only serve one vegetable instead of three as advertised. They should definitely do something about this staff shortage or else, they would loose business as customers would become disgruntled with the service levels. The waitress, which I believe is a family member too has got to learn to be more courteous to customers. At times, when we were getting back to her to check on the status, she just played a deaf ear and continued doing other things which is bad customer service. Would I come back? Perhaps yes as the food was good but only on days when I have the whole afternoon to waste on lunch.
