Kopitiam 80 Restaurant is a relatively new restaurant that had recently commenced business in Bandar Saujana Putra. This restaurant is located on the new side of Bandar Saujana Putra which is closer to MAHSA University.

Stir Fry Stall

During the day, there are many other stalls that are open and the main operators does Chinese Mixed Rice variety. In the evening, there are only a handful of stalls that are open. We were here quite late and it was almost 10 pm. At that hour, even the other stalls had closed off for the day and the only stall that was open was this stall that you could see in the above photograph. Since we were already here, we decided to give this stall a try. They do have the usual single dishes as well but we decided to go for a couple of dishes since we were quite hungry.

Ginger & Onions Stir Fried Chicken @ RM 13.00

It wasn't too long a wait since there were not many customers at that hour and the dishes arrived pretty fast. The first one to be served was the Egg Fu Yong which was priced at RM 7.00 . The preparation was decent and it came with a number of commonly found ingredients. Not too oily as well and it was to our liking. I would rate this dish at 8/10. The next dish to arrive was the Ginger & Onions Stir Fried Chicken and this was priced at RM 13.00 . To be honest, the preparation looked a little off as we were expecting the dry version. This one came with lots of sauces and the chicken bits seemed to be floating there. Taste wise, the broth was quite bland and close to being tasteless. The chicken bits too were not crisp. My rating for this dish shall be 3/10. 

Salted Egg Squid @ RM 13.00

Sweet & Sour Pork @ RM 13.00

The Salted Egg Squid was another dish that I felt that was off. It was too soggy and the cuttlefish had to be crisp and here, that was just not the case. It totally lacked the crunch that it should have had. I would only give this dish 5/10. Their Sweet& Sour Pork was better. Not to say that it was great, but it was better than the last two dishes. Again, the crunch that should have come from the pork was lacking but the sauces saved the dish. My rating for this shall be 7/10. 

We tried the stall that is open in the evenings at this restaurant and to be honest, the food was just so so. There was not one dish that captivated us and the majority of the dishes that we had tried was way below our expectations.

Recently I have been coming often to Bandar Saujana Putra for work and this is one such trip as well. I had not been able to have lunch this often as I was a little engaged throughout the afternoon. By the time I was done, it was close to 7 pm. Either I head out of this place or I find something to eat here is what I thought to myself. Looking out towards the SKVE and ELITE Highways, the traffic didn't seem too good. I therefore decided to have an early dinner here.

I have tried all the Indian Muslim restaurants that is located on the new side of Bandar Saujana Putra, closer to MAHSA University. For a change, I decided to come to this side, the older side of Bandar Saujana Putra which not too long ago used to be called Jenjarom. This restaurant called Restoran AR Rasheed seemed to be pretty famous. I walked in, found  table to sit and started waving for the waiters to take the orders. Despite everyone seeing me, they were just too lazy to come and finally I made my way to the curries counter. I checked out the food there and nothing seemed to be appetising or at least inviting. I then walked over to the Nasi Lemak Station and the choices seemed decent. Convinced that this shall be my meal, I decided to help myself by picking up the food items and that was when one guy started running towards me. I asked him, "You have always been standing there and you even saw me waving at you but you played blind. How come now you're suddenly coming?" and to that, he just grinned. 

Nasi Lemak @ RM 3.50

I went for the basic Nasi Lemak set and it was priced at RM 3.50 . This was really good and the ingredients used were fresh. Their Sambal was a mix of sweet and spiciness and for those who don't mind the sweeter tasting Nasi Lemak's, this would be a good one to try. The rice had a lovely aromatic flavour as well. My rating for this shall be 8/10. 

For a good plate of Nasi Lemak around Bandar Saujana Putra, I would recommend visiting Restoran AR Rasheed that is located along Jalan SPU 1. They start selling this in the evenings till around midnight. Ingredients are fresh and prices are reasonable. Choices of add on's are limited though.

Restoran Bintang Tujuh Bistro @ Bandar Saujana Putra, Selangor

This evening, I happened to pass through Bandar Saujana Putra on my way back to Kajang. Since it was already time for dinner, I decided to do a brief stop here. I have tried a few restaurants here which I have blogged in the past and today, I wanted to try another new place. As such, I decided to give Restoran Bintang Tujuh Bistro a try.

My Dinner @ RM 5.50

This restaurant is located on the new side of town that is closer to MAHSA University and is facing the main trunk road heading into Bandar Saujana Putra. Parking is easy as well in this area. They had a variety of cuisines on offer but I decided to stick with the basic Indian Muslim fare. Their Mutton Curry looked good and so I went for that along with some white rice, Mutton and Cabbage Perattal which cost me RM 5.50 which again is quite reasonable.

Their Mutton was really a class of it's own. The chunks were a mix of bone and meat and you could basically choose the cuts that you like. Their curry however was really thick and good and I enjoyed every bit of it. Not the usual Indian Muslim style of cooking as this was more like the South Indian style of preparation. Loved it and I would rate this at 9/10. 

Cabbage Perattal

Their Cabbage Perattal was again good. The cabbage was fresh and it wasn't overcooked which is just the way I like it. Spices were good and the overall flavours were perfect. It went so well with the mutton curry as well. My rating for this shall be 9/10 as well. I had also ordered a glass of Teh Tarik. Again, a good glass of tea it was. My rating for this shall be 8/10. 

Compared to the many Indian Muslim restaurants that I have visited in Bandar Saujana Putra, I find the food at Restoran Bintang Tujuh Bistro to be better than the rest. There may be other establishments that I have not visited yet, nevertheless the food here is the best thus far. Reasonable prices and good customer service as well.

Restoran Al Haji Bistro @ Bandar Saujana Putra, Selangor

Yesterday I was at Bandar Saujana Putra to meet up with a client. This small township which used to be known as Jenjarom all these years has been rebranded to Bandar Saujana Putra to give it an upmarket development feel. There has been so much of development going on here, both in terms of commercial and residential developments, not forgetting MAHSA University Campus and MAHSA International School. Once upon a time, this used to be a quaint little town and now the houses are fetching almost half a million ringgit. Infrastructure wise, we have NKVE, SKVE and Elite Highways merging into this town and I would not be surprised if in another 10 years, this place would boom like another Petaling Jaya.

Stylish and Modern Decoration

When it comes to food options, there still is so much lacking. Of late, there has been so many Indian Muslim and Malay shops that have come up here and yes, one Chinese restaurant that serves mixed rice for lunch but based on my friends feedback, none that is really good. I sensed that myself as I drove along the shops. The place still needs lots of time to settle in and absorb the sudden surge of development before it can adopt to all the change that has been happening here. Also the surge of student community brought in by MAHSA University would be a plus point for the economy around this area to further develop. Enough about the local developments, let me get back to this restaurant. Restoran Al Haji Bistro is one of the largest Indian Muslim restaurant's in this area. They have spent quite a lot in terms of renovation and have air-conditioned the entire restaurant. We were here slightly after two and the usual lunch crowd had just left. Still, there was an encouraging number of customers and that was the factor that drew me to this restaurant instead of the rest. Before checking out what they had in terms of the lunch spread, I had ordered myself a glass of tea and this was priced at RM 1.50 . Very fair pricing as I was expecting something close to RM 2 looking at all the renovation that had been done. Taste wise, it was good and I would rate it at 8/10.

They had a good spread but it didn't look that great. Now I knew what my friend was talking about. Nevertheless, still good to satisfy the hungry tummy. I had some Rice, Crab Curry, Curried Fish Roe, Mutton, Long Beans and Fried Bitter Gourd and this lot was priced at RM 8.00 . Again, very reasonable pricing. Actually, it is quite cheap. The same lot, especially with Mutton and Fish Roe would have cost me a bomb in Kuala Lumpur.

In general, all the curries were watery and they all looked quite similar. Their Crab Curry was no different. It too was on the watery side and I couldn't get the usual flavours that you get from Crab Curry but it did taste like curry. I was happy in a way because it didn't taste as bad as it looked. Taste wise, I would give this 6/10. Their Fish Roe Curry was a tad too watery as well and I am sure you are thinking the same by looking at the above photograph. The Fish Roe itself was just okay and I could not get the usual satisfaction that I would derive from this delicacy. If I were to rate this, I would give it 5/10.

Long Beans & Fried Bitter Gourd

Their Curried Mutton was better. I liked the slightly thicker gravy though nowhere near what I would have desired it to be but it was sufficiently flavourful. I would perhaps give this 7/10. Their Long Beans was quite bland, in Tamil we would say that the 'Thalippu' had gone wrong as it could not emanate the right flavours. The Fried Bitter Gourd was better though I would have preferred it to be crispy. I would rate the Long Beans at 5/10 and the Bitter Gourd at 7/10. 

The Bill For The Day

In terms of pricing, this restaurant is definitely quite cheap. For a meal consisting of two vegetables, Mutton and Fish Roe, RM 8.00 is a good deal but sad to say that it just wasn't there in terms of taste. Above average food that is good to feed the hungry tummy. A little bit more effort on the food quality and they should do very well.
