Restaurant Aunty Manju's @ Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur

Aunty Manju's is a restaurant that is quite famous in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. Perhaps, many people from Kuala Lumpur may have already visited them. I too did visit this restaurant about a year back and found the food to be good. Since we were in the vicinity this afternoon, we decided to drop by again.

The Restaurant In Taman Tun Dr Ismail
This restaurant is located along Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad 1, the same row where the famous Restaurant Jaipur as well as Kayra's is. The place is mostly crowded since the food is reasonably good. Since it was slightly after 2 pm, we managed to get a table rather easily. Parking is a challenge here whether it is day or night. My recommendation would be to park at the public car park that is located right opposite this restaurant.

Banana Leaf Rice Meal @ RM 8.50
Their Banana Leaf Rice Meals are pretty famous here. In fact, most of them come here for just this. The other items that are famous here are their Mutton Bone Marrow Curry, Crab Curry and their freshly fried Fish. Since we were in the mood for a vegetarian meal this afternoon, we decided to stick to their basic set. This set is priced at RM 8.50, the same as it was a year back but they had cut down on their vegetables. Previously, they used to serve five vegetables with this set and now,  you only get four which was a little disappointing.

Vegetables

Rasam
Taste wise, their vegetables were good and they were fresh. Just that the beansprouts were a little overdone. Otherwise, I would rate them at 7/10. Their Rasam was good too and my rating for this shall be 7/10 as well.

Sambar

Vegetable Kulambu
This time around, their Sambar tasted better than my last visit. It was a little more concentrated and they seemed to be generous with the ingredients. Similarly, their Vegetable Kulambu was to my liking as well. Both curries deserve a rating of 8/10.

Our Bill
Aunty Manju's is a restaurant that needs no introduction to lovers of Banana Leaf Rice Meals. Compared to my last visit, the curries have definitely improved and I am happy to see that the price is still consistent. However, cutting down the number of vegetables served from five to four was a little disappointing. Nevertheless, still a great place to visit for a hearty meal.

biJOEx Restaurant @ Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur

Bijoex Restaurant is a restaurant that is located n Glomac Damansara which is typically located in the vicinity of Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. Despite sounding French, this restaurant cum cafe has a little bit of everything.

The Restaurant In Glomac Damansara

Set Lunch Menu

Set Lunch Menu
They do have a very extensive menu along with a value for money lunch set meals menu as well. Since I was in a rush and didn't have the time to go for an elaborate meal, I decided to cut it short and try one of their dishes that was listed in their Set Lunch Menu. If you do have time, do try their Grilled Lamb please. The reviews seems to be very good.

Cutlery

A Pitcher Of Orange Juice

Orange Juice
Since there were a few of us and we had collectively ordered the Set Lunch Menu which comes with a complimentary drink, they had served us the Orange Juice in a pitcher which seemed practical to me. The entire ambiance at this restaurant is good. Whether you're here for a quick lunch or even a business discussion, it's just perfect. Amazing place for dates as well. Their Orange Juice is nice and my rating for it shall be 8/10.

Seafood Fried Meehoon @ RM 14.90
I ordered their Seafood Meehoon and it was served in a matter of minutes. Truly amazing flavours and they were generous with the seafood. Everything was just perfect. In fact, it wouldn't be wrong for me to say that this was the best Noodles dish that I have had in a cafe. If you're around Glomac Damansara, do drop by and you'd be amazed by the flavours and hospitality. 9/10 shall be my rating for the above dish. Highly recommended.

Restoran Ismail @ Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur

Restoran Ismail is a restaurant that has been around for more than three decades. Located in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, this restaurant has made a name for itself and is mostly sought for their Briyani. Despite there being many restaurants that sell Briyani, the preparation at Restoran Ismail is quite unique and has a taste of it's own.

The Restaurant In TTDI
It's quite easy to locate this restaurant in Taman Tu Dr Ismail. They are located quite close to the Fire Brigade and Celcom. Being located along the main road that comes into TTDI, that has given them another advantage in terms of location. The restaurant has got a lovely design and is good for singles as well as families. Once you are here, you could just order the dishes at your table itself. If you're in the mood to try out more dishes, then I would recommend heading to their food counter and selecting those add on items that you would like to have.

Dhalcha

Cucumber Acar
Regardless of the type of Briyani that you go for, Dhalcha and Cucumber Acar are compulsory items that would be served. Both are prepared according to traditional methods and I must confess that they are quite authentic in taste. Quality if ingredients used are also premium ones and that ensures that the taste is consistent. My rating for both the above items shall be 9/10.

Mutton

Mutton Briyani Rice Set @ RM 16.50
When you order their Mutton Briyani Set, it comes with a plate of Plain Briyani Rice and some Mutton Perattal on another smaller saucer. Their Briyani Rice itself is so good and the fragrance is awesome. Even taste wise, it is so good to be eaten on it's own. I would rate their rice at 8/10. Their Mutton is also equally good and they are usually lean cuts without any bones. Again, the Masala is just amazing and goes so well with the rice. My rating for their Mutton shall be 9/10.

Chicken Briyani @ RM 14.50

Appalam
As for their Chicken Briyani, you could choose to have a large piece of Fried Chicken which is one of their top sellers or even Kurma Chicken. Knowing that it is their top seller, I decided to go for the previous and it was a choice that I did not regret. The Fried Chicken was so crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. The marination was simply perfect and it was definitely a taste to remember. My rating for this shall be 9/10. Besides the Dhalcha and Cucumber Acar, Appalam is also provided with all Briyani sets.

If you're a fan of Briyani, I would recommend visiting Restoran Ismail that is located in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. They have been around for more than three decades and their signature Chicken Briyani and Mutton Briyani are a must try. Good food, reasonable prices and speedy service.

Restoran Fish Head Briyani @ Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur

Of late, there have been many new Briyani restaurants that have been opening up with very innovative concepts and Fish Head Briyani is one such restaurant. This restaurant is located along Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad 2 in Taman Tun Dr Ismail.

Lovely Design

Variety Of Briyani's

They Do Rice And Curries Too

Jeera Water On The House
The restaurant wasn't too difficult to find as I am quite familiar with this area. For those who are not too familiar, this restaurant is along the same row as Mc Donalds except that it is at the other end, closer to the condominiums. The decor was superb and the overall ambiance soothing. The owners were friendly people and they even struck a conversation with me when I was outside their restaurant. That is what I call good customer service. They have a variety of Briyani's on offer, both vegetarian and non vegetarian ones. The highlight is of course their Fish Head Briyani but I am not really a fan of that, and so we went for their Mutton Briyani. Besides Briyani, they also serve rice and curries, just like any other South Indian restaurant. Plain Water and Jeera Water is on the house and it was great to see that they serve Jeera Water, a drink that is almost forgotten in most households these days.

Mutton Briyani Set @ RM 18.00

Mutton Briyani Set @ RM 18.00
It wasn't too long a wait for the food to be served and they do serve them in a very professional manner. The Briyani comes in a claypot and is served with Raiya, Acar and some Appalam. Their Raita was quite basic I would say. It would have been better if it was a little more concentrated. Otherwise, it tasted quite decent. I would rate their Raita at 6/10. Their Acar was good. It had a good mix of ingredients and the flavours were just perfect. My rating for this shall be 8/10.

Briyani In Claypot

A Closer Look
Their Mutton Briyani was above average I would say. The thing I loved most about this dish was the mutton itself. They served two reasonably large chunks of mutton and their marination was perfect. The flavours were intact and the meat was tender. For the mutton itself, I would give it 8/10. However, the rice could have been better. One thing that was not to my liking was the limited about of gravy that came with the rice and it ended up being a tad too dry. However, we did ask them for more gravy and they obliged. As a total dish, I would rate this at 7/10.

Chicken @ RM 6.50
We also ordered a plate of chicken and this was priced at RM 6.50 . For the portion, I would say that it's very reasonable. I could see that they were quite generous with the spices and it turned out to be pretty good. Only one thing that I could comment on this and that would be the fact that it was mildly salty. Otherwise, a good dish and my rating for this shall be 7/10.

Our Bill For The Day
Overall, their Mutton Briyani was quite decent. I loved the flavours of the mutton itself as that was done very well. It would have been better if the Briyani came with a little more gravy as the rice ended up tasting a little dry. Nevertheless, they did oblige when we asked for more gravy and that's good customer service. The overall ambiance was lovely as well. If you're a fan of Fish Head, then you could give their Fish Head Briyani a try since that is one of their signature dishes.

Kayra @ Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur

Kayra is an authentic Keralite restaurant that is located in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. They had started slightly more than a year now but due to the distance, I had not been able to visit them any sooner. There's been lot's of positive reviews about this place and being one who loves Malayalee food,  I was eagerly waiting for the day that I get a chance to drop by and thankfully, we managed to drop by this afternoon.

This restaurant is open daily from 12 noon till 3.30 pm and again from 6.30 pm till 11.00 pm. Despite us having arrived at around 2.30 pm, the staffs still gave us a very warm welcome although they knew that we would be stealing some of their rest time. That was such a lovely gesture. Another thing that impressed me is the overall professional look and feel that the restaurant had. The menu was an elaborate one having a range of authentic Kerala dishes and it took us a while to finally come to a conclusion as to what we shall be having. Thankfully, the waiter was very cooperative and assisted us whenever he could.

Ginger Chiller @ RM 11.90
They had a range of interesting drinks on offer and I suppose some of them might be some famous ones in Kerala. I ordered the above Ginger Chiller, a drink that I have not tasted before and it was pretty refreshing. Loved the taste too! My rating for this shall be 9/10.

Ari Pathiri @ RM 5.00
Rice Pathiri is something that I had not tasted in a very long time and I was very happy to see it in their menu. It was perfectly prepared and it did taste good. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

Puttu @ RM 10.00
For RM 10.00 , we got two large heaps of Puttu. This alone would have been enough for us actually as it was quite huge. The texture was perfect and so was the aroma. Again another one that deserves a 9/10.

Avial @ RM 13.00
This is one of my favourite Malayalee vegetable dishes and it's a must have for me whenever I visit a Keralite restaurant. The preparation was very good and I loved the flavours. The vegetables were not overcooked and you could enjoy the crispiness along with the mildly sour gravy. 9/10 is what I would rate this.

Chemeen Masala @ RM 35.00
This spicy Kerala style Prawn Masala was extremely good. A very spicy dish just the way it should be and it came with fresh prawns served in thick masala. The gravy was so addictive and went so well with the Puttu as well as Pathiri. I would definitely give this 10/10.

Nadan Erechi Ularthiyathu @ RM 32.00
This Kerala Style Mutton Roast was a fantastic dish. Even from afar, we could get the delicious aroma of the dish and it was so good. A slightly dry dish but it was a treat to mutton lovers like me. The texture of the mutton was so soft and tender and the medium spicy gravy complimented it so well. I will definitely give this 10/10.

Masala Tea
Nothing beats having a Masala Tea after a sumptuous meal. The Masala Tea was a little strong and the flavours of the Masala dominated the drink. This isn't usually the case in Tamil restaurants and I am not too sure if this is how it is served in Kerala. Nevertheless, it was a drink that I enjoyed.

I must confess that Kayra does serve some excellent Kerala food. Every item that we tried was so good and it was great to find such s diverse offering in their menu. Chemeen Masala and Nadan Erechi Ularthiyathu were two dishes that were mind blowing. Prices are on the high side but it's totally worth it. If you're looking for some excellent Kerala cuisine, Kayra is the place.

Restaurant Aunty Manju's @ Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur

I have heard a lot of positive feedback about this place called Aunty Manju's in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail that serves excellent Banana Leaf Meals but hadn't got a chance to visit them. I also heard that they have Mutton Bone Marrow and Crab Curries during the weekends, both of which are my favourites. Having postponed this visit too long, my brother and I decided to drop by and check the place out this evening.

Aunty Manju's In Taman Tun Dr Ismail
We were here at about 5.30 pm and even though it was an non peak hour, they did have a very encouraging number of customers. This restaurant is located along Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad 1 which is right opposite the open car park where the Ramadhan Bazaar happens every year.

Basic Banana Leaf Meal Set @ RM 8.50
Their Basic Banana Leaf Meal Set is priced at RM 8.50 and this comes with five vegetables, free flow of curries, Rasam and Appalam. I won't consider this to be expensive as it came with quality vegetables.

5 Vegetables Comes With The Set
Most restaurant would only serve three of four vegetables but these guy's serve five quality vegetables with the basic set. Today, it was Brinjals Koottu, Beetroot, Snake Gourd Perattal, Tofu Sambal and Cucumber Acar. Yes, I was impressed to even see Tofu Sambal being included in this. Usually, restaurants would charge for it separately as a vegetable add on at RM 3.50 . In terms of taste, I was impressed. For me, this was perhaps the best vegetable line up that I have come across in a Banana Leaf Restaurant and they all tasted just excellent. My rating for these would be 10/10.

Sambar

Chicken Kulambu
Their Sambar however was not that great. Despite is being thick, I felt that it slacked in terms of taste as I found it to be rather bland. My rating for this shall be 6/10. Their Chicken Kulambu was sufficiently spiced but it was also slightly on the salty side which wasn't to my liking. This, I would rate it at 7/10. It's just sad that the curries didn't click well as I was very impressed with the vegetables.

Rasam
I am a huge fan of Rasam and it is like a must to have it after a good South Indian meal. This Rasam again was on the salty side. Not only did I find it to be such, so did my brother. Though my salt tolerance is high, this was just too much for me. I would rate this at 5/10.

Pepper Chicken @ RM 8.50
We had ordered a number of side dishes and shall be speaking a little about them as well. Their Pepper Chicken was very good. I loved the infusion of spices but again, it was a tad too salty for me. The chunks however were meaty. My rating for this shall be 7/10.

Mutton Bone Marrow Curry @ RM 12.50
We wanted to have crabs as well but sadly it was sold out for the day. The Mutton Bone Marrow Curry that you see above is half portion and it comes with two large cuts. If you go for the full portion, then it will be four. This dish was just heavenly. The bone marrow had been perfectly cooked so much so the meat was so tender and it easily peels off from the bone. There were some chewy tendons for those who love to bite those off the bone. The marrow was fresh too. Coming to the gravy, again it was heavenly. I absolutely fell in love with this dish. It won't be wrong if I say that this is one of the best Mutton Bone Marrow dishes that I have tasted. 10/10 it is for this!

Mutton Masala @ RM 10.00
Their Mutton Masala is another dish that I would highly recommend. Lean cuts of mutton were served in a spicy and thick gravy and it was an absolute treat. The blend of spices were just perfect and we thoroughly enjoyed this dish. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

Fried Tenggiri Fish @ RM 12.00
They have a variety of fish to choose from and we went for this Tenggiri Fish cut which had been freshly fried. The fish was crispy and we loved the marination. 9/10 for this as well!

Deep Fried Squid with Onions (Half Portion) @ RM 10.00
Another excellent dish that should not be missed here is their Deep Fried Squid. In most restaurants that I have visited, they would have topped this with mostly onions and there would have been a few pieces of squid but that was not the case here. Besides that, they had fried it to a golden brown perfection and the marination was superb as well. 10/10 would be my rating for this.

The Bill For The Day (We Did Some Takeaways Too)
Some may say that the prices may be on the high side and I don't disagree with that. However, except for one or two small items that slacked, the rest were a treat. Their Mutton Bone Marrow Curry, Fried Squid, Mutton Masala and Fried Tenggiri Fish was heavenly. Their Basic Banana Leaf Meals that comes with five vegetables definitely had the best line up of vegetables that I have come across. Not only that, they tasted great too. If you don't mind paying slightly more for a hearty meal, I would definitely recommend this place. Good food, speedy service and lovely ambiance.
