Apple Hearts Bakery @ Ara Damansara, Selangor

We were having a function in the office and wanted to get a large vegetarian cake for the entire office and while going through this process, we did contemplate between regular bakeries and home bakers and that was when we decided to go for home bakers since it would be guaranteed that we get better quality cakes made using quality ingredients. I was then recommended by a good friend to give this Apple Hearts Bakery a try.

Excellent Vegetarian Cake @ RM 80/ KG
Mrs. Yasho runs this business from home and has been doing this for a very long time now. In fact, she is a second generation home baker who had inherited the passion and art of baking from her mother. From what I had heard, she has done lots of events and bakes a range of cakes right from cup cakes, butter cakes and even vegetarian cakes. After going through the number of pax, she suggested that a 2 KG vegetarian cake would be more than sufficient and we just went along. Came the day of delivery, I picked it up at her place.  For those who need the cake to be delivered, that too can be arranged for a small fee depending on the location.

Rich Icing And Lovely Texture
I must confess that the cake was the talk of the office. Despite having had so much of other food, everyone kept coming back for more and we were all very happy with what we had gotten. Being a vegetarian cake, I never expected it to taste this good. I guess, this is the level of quality that home bakers promise to deliver and Apple Hearts impressed us all. If you're looking for a good home baked cake, then I would strongly recommend Apple Hearts.

Las Delicias @ Citta Mall, Petaling Jaya

Las Delicias Brasserie has been around in Citta Mall since February 2012. I hardly come around to this side of Petaling Jaya, mostly due to the traffic jam. This afternoon, we wanted to get something from Citta Mall and that's why, we drove over to this mall which incidentally is my first visit here. Honestly, as for the shopping scene, it was quite limited but there was a splurge of eateries in this mall, mostly high end outlets.

We were walking around the whole mall wanting to check out the food scene and at the far end, we noticed this outlet and decided to give it a try. Do note that this is a non Halal restaurant as they serve pork and alcohol on their menu. I think this was one of the largest restaurants here in terms of floor space. They had a huge outdoor seating area as well as the indoor dining space which was designed more like a British pub.

Indoor Dining Area

Sandwiches, Cheese and Meat Strips

Cakes

Breads and Imported Mineral Water
Their indoor dining area was huge and well designed. Besides the main dishes, they had a good variety of sandwiches, breads & buns and cakes. Their wine selection too was very impressive. They do not have printed menu's here as their menu is written on a blackboard which is placed inside the restaurant. There is also an abridged version outside the restaurant. All the staffs here were Filipinos and they were quite friendly and helpful when it came to assisting with the orders and recommendations.

Warm Water

Coca Cola @ RM 5.00

Hot Chocolate @ RM 10.90

Waiting For The Dishes
Even as we took our seats, they served us with some warm water. I then ordered a glass of Coca Cola which came at RM 5.00 . This was not from the can as I saw them pouring it out from the 1.5L bottle. Would have definitely been better if they served us from the can. My brother ordered their Hot Chocolate which came in a not too large glass for the price of RM 10.90 . The Hot Chocolate was good and I would rate it at 8.5/10 .

Fish & Chips @ RM 30.00
The Fish & Chips came is a huge plate along with some French Fries and salad on the sides.

Two Large Chunks of Fish

Dip Sauce
Definitely worth the price as it came with two huge chunks of Fish. The fish was perfectly fried and was crispy on the outside while not overcooked on the inside. The dip sauce provided too was homemade and together, they were excellent. I would rate this Fish and dip sauce at 9/10 .

Salad
The greens provided in the salad were very fresh and it was dressed with some Mayonnaise. Once again, a good preparation and I would rate this at 8.8/10 .

French Fries
These crinkle cuts fries were once again deep fried to perfection and sprinkled lightly with some salt. The fries were once again good and I would rate them at 9/10 . Overall, a very satisfactory dish!

Grilled Cajun Pork Chop @ RM 34.00
Their Grilled Cajun Pork Chop came in a huge piece of grilled meat along with some mashed potato and salad on the sides.

Grilled Meat with Mushroom Sauce

BBQ Dip Sauce
The grilled meat was topped with mushroom sauce and along with it, some BBQ sauce was provided at the sides. The meat itself was thick and perfectly grilled with the right spices. Definitely an excellent preparation. I would rate this at 9.6/10 .

Salad
The greens provided in the salad were very fresh and it was dressed with some Mayonnaise, just the same as per the earlier dish. Once again, a good preparation and I would rate this at 8.8/10 .

Mashed Potato
The mashed potato was not made from fresh potato's but from those dried batter that is sold in supermarkets. Nevertheless, it was fixed nicely with milk and margarine. I would rate this at 8.9/10 .

Lunch in Progress
From the dishes that we tried today, we were very satisfied with this place. Definitely a place that offers good and delicious meat cuts. Definitely would return to try out their Lamb dishes.

Kumar's @ Oasis Ara Damansara, Petaling Jaya

This is my third blog entry on Kumar's which is a Tamil fine dining restaurant located in Oasis Ara Damansara. I first visited them in April this year and that was for a buffet lunch. Having been hooked on to their food, I had been a loyal customer of theirs returning over and over again. If you would like to read my reviews of their buffet lunch, please do click on this link: http://venoth.blogspot.com/2013/04/kumars-restaurant-oasis-ara-damansara.html . The second time I visited this place was sometime early this month and that was with my office mates. During that visit, we had opted to try their Ala Carte dishes and once again Kumar's did not fail to impress us. To access that review, please do click on this link: http://venoth.blogspot.com/2013/10/kumars-restaurant-oasis-ara-damansara.html . This time around, we decided to have our office Annual Dinner at this restaurant. Having had numerous conversations with the General Manager Vincent, we finally came to an agreement on the dishes and the price. The location, was the roof top of the restaurant.

Kumar's at Oasis Ara Damansara

The View Outside The Restaurant
Besides great food, the view from this restaurant is simply superb. It has a beautifully designed water feature which is very soothing to look at.

The Tables Set Up on the Roof Top

The Dishes

Bar Tables and Sofa's on the dimly lit Roof Top
When we arrived at this restaurant, it was all set up beautifully. The tables and dishes were aligned just the way we had asked for. There was also a canopy put up in case it rained. The cost for the canopy was RM 650.00 which was charged above the price of the food and this had been pre-agreed. One thing that was really great here besides the view was the environment. As it was the roof top, we had the entire floor to ourselves. The restaurant even allowed us to bring our own band that entertained us throughout the night.

White Rice
All the dishes were placed in those bronze containers and they were topped up as the food ran out. That way, they were consistently able to serve us hot food.

Garlic Naan & Butter Naans
Besides White Rice, we had also ordered some Garlic Naans and Butter Naans. Both the Naans were very soft and nice. I would rate their Naan's at 8.8/10 .

Prawn Masala
The Prawn Masala was really good. They were large prawns which came in a very spicy gravy. I would rate this dish at 9.3/10 .

Squid Sambal
This was another super spicy dish. I was expecting it to be a little dry but they had made it slightly watery which was nice and went well with the White Rice. I would rate this dish at 9.2/10 .

Mutton Varuval
The Mutton Varuval was everyone's favourite dish of the day. It was very well prepared with an equal balance of meat and fat. The gravy was very good and the meat was soft and tender. I would rate this dish at 10/10 .

Chicken 65
The Chicken 65 was good but not the best that I had tried. The meat chunks were a little too hard. I would only rate this at 7/10 .

Fish Cutlets
This was another favourite dish which finished very fast as it was the favourite bites among the beer drinkers. I would rate these cutlets at 8.8/10 .

Mushroom Masala
This dish was rather unique as it was a fusion between Chinese and Indian cooking. It had both spices and sauces and tasted quite nice. The mushroom was also not overcooked thus giving it the crunchy feeling with every bite. I would rate this dish at 9/10 .

Chicken Perattal
Usually Chicken Perattal is quite dry but here it was prepared with some gravy which seemed more like Chicken Curry to me. Nevertheless, it was very well prepared and was slightly on the spicy side. I would rate this dish at 10/10 .

Venthayam Curry
Their Venthayam Curry was very good, in fact it was the best that I have tasted in a restaurant. It came with loads of vegetables and potato and had the perfect touch to it. I would rate this dish at 10/10 .

Vegetable Kurma
This was another well prepared dish and went very well with both the rice and naan's. It was prepared to be slightly thick and that brought about a deeper spice taste to it. We had to have both Vegetarian and Non Vegetarian options as we had some friends who were Vegetarians. I would rate this dish at 8.7/10 .

Sambar
The Sambar was nicely prepared. It was not a major hit but still nice. I would rate this at 8.5/10 .

Aloo Bendi Masala
This Aloo Bendi Masala was another dish well prepared and was very suitable to be eaten with the white rice. I would rate this dish at 8.7/10 .

Vegetarian Mutton Perattal
This was another dish that was specially prepared for the vegetarians. It was a very well prepared dish and they had used the real vegetarian mutton and not the soy meal makers. The curry too was thick and the aroma was wonderful. I would rate this at 9.2/10 .

Potato Cutlet
Just like the Fish Cutlets, these Potato Cutlets too were very good and they were just about the right size. I would rate these at 9.1/10 .

Kesari
The Kesari was wonderful. I must say that it was excellently prepared. I would rate this at 10/10 .

Gulab Jamun
The Gulab Jamun was only above average. I would only rate it at 6/10 .

On the whole, we thoroughly enjoyed the food and their staff were pretty quick in addressing all our needs. They were also well trained to react fast to attend to each one of us. For all the above food, we were charged at RM 130.00 per pax which I think is very reasonable. Would I organise parties here again, of course I would as I was very happy with the way it went today.
