Bavarian House German Restaurant (Bavarian Beergarden) @ Taman Desa, Kuala Lumpur

Today my brother and I set out to try another German Restaurant that is located in Taman Desa. Previously they used to have another outlet in Pearl International Hotel but that has been recently sold off. This restaurant is called Bavarian House German Restaurant and is located amidst the shop offices in Desa Business Centre that is not far away from the Desa Medical Centre.

At night, the place seems quite deserted and this restaurant is easily sighted as only their lights were on lighting up the entire area. This restaurant is perched slightly higher than street level and is clearly visible too as you drive around the in roads. The place is designed to be both a watering hole as well as a diner with a bar counter on one side and tables for diners on the other. The reception here was indeed very good and it seems that this place is owned by an Indian guy who was very friendly.

Cutlery
Going through their menu, they definitely have some great food to offer. All the food is priced quite cheap compared to other German restaurants out there but their drinks, especially the beer, seems to be really expensive compared to most other places. At some point in time, I was even contemplating not having any drinks but just food as I felt that the price of drinks were unreasonable.

Cranberry Cocktail @ RM 18.00
I had the above Cranberry Cocktail which is a non alcoholic cocktail. It comes at a price of RM 18.00 . Though on the high side, I would still consider this not so high bearing in mind the place and concept that they are trying to portray. As for the taste, it was quite unique and refreshing. I would rate this drink at 8/10 .

Hoegarden Beer @ RM 35.00
The price of the Hoegarden Beer was something that I felt was sky high and I just could not except that. But since my brother insisted, he went on ordering it. As for me, I could have the same elsewhere for half the price. But...the beer was ice cold and that is a credit that they deserve.

Potato Leek Soup @ RM 5.00
We both had the above Potato Leek Soup. Being priced at RM 5.00 , it is really cheap and taste was pretty nice. The chunks of Potato, slices of Pork Bacon and the thick soup was simply a great combination.I would definitely say that this was a great soup and I would rate this at 8.5/10 . Definitely a good choice here.

Platter of Half Pork Ribs (RM 56.00) & Grilled Pork Steak (RM 34.00)
We ordered the above two dishes separately but they were served in a single huge platter. It comes with some Mushroom Gravy.

Half Pork Ribs @ RM 56.00
These are oven baked Half Pork Ribs served in dark beer gravy. I find this dish to be quite average. It was a really huge piece but the taste was just not up to the mark and the ribs were a little overcooked. The dark gravy also lacked character and the meat and the gravy just did not sink in well. Overall a disappointing dish. I would only rate this at 5/10 .

Grilled Pork Steak @ RM 34.00
This piece of meat is served with the Mushroom Sauce. Firstly, the meat was absolutely perfect and it could be had without any gravy. Secondly the gravy was heavenly. Together, they were bliss. This was one of the best Grilled Pork Steak that I have ever had. I would rate this at a perfect 10/10 .

Sauteed Potato in the middle
Right under the meat, there were some sauteed potato's and again I found these to be really good. The potato's were definitely well cooked along with the right sauces and spices made this a mega hit. I would rate these at a 10/10 .

Generally, I find the food in the restaurant to be good except for the Pork Ribs which was a let down. The  food price is also very cheap compared to other German restaurants but the drinks were cut throat. I may return here for food but would never think this place of a watering hole that I would frequent.

42 East Restaurant & Bar @ TTDI, Kuala Lumpur

It's Friday night and it's time to celebrate all the hard work put in throughout the week. Besides, my father and brother were also with me today and we decided to have some good meal along with some beers. We then decided to visit one of the watering holes in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail called 42 East Restaurant & Bar.

42 East Restaurant & Bar in TTDI, Kuala Lumpur

The Bar

Busy on a Friday night.
This bar is located along the same row as Sid's Pub and just a few doors away to Dukes & Duchess which I had visited the week before and have also written an entry on it. We arrived here at 8 pm and at that time, there were more diners than people who were drinking. They have a simple and nice design with large projector screens playing some sports channel from ASTRO. There was a row of dining tables and then another row of bar tables. The staffs were a mixture of locals and foreigners and they were generally swift. It seems that this is another neighbourhood joint that is favoured by the locals living in the neighbourhood. Unlike Dukes & Duchess, there were no expatriate guests here tonight. It seems that for some reason not discovered by me, they prefer the other watering holes along the same row. I went through the menu and it seems they have a signature meat platter here which is good to feed six people. I also glanced over some of the other tables and they seemed to be having the same platter and we too ordered the same.

42 East Signature Mixed Platter @ RM 156.00
After around 15 minutes, the food arrived and indeed it was huge. A single glance revealed that we would not be able to finish it as it was just the three of us. Nevertheless, we shall just have what we could and the balance can always be taken away. 15 minutes to prepare the above is definitely very efficient. Now time to get our hands messy.

Green Salad
The Green Salad was quite decent and they were fresh and nice. It only lacked some dressing and we had to dip in into the sauce. Otherwise, this was nice. I would rate the Salad at 8/10 .

BBQ Baby Pork Ribs
I know that the Guiness Pork Ribs is one of the famous dishes here but this one was the BBQ Baby Pork Ribs. We did not quite enjoy this here as the marination was just average. The meat was also overdone to the point that it was breaking into pieces fairly easily. We only partially ate this and left half of it. I would only rate this at 5/10 .

Pan Seared Salmon
The Salmon was very well prepared and it was really nice. Sad that there was only one piece and we had wished that there was more of this instead of the Pork Ribs. The fish had a crisp skin and yet, the juices of the fish was intact. It was really good and I would rate this at a 10/10 .

Calamari Fritters & French Fries
The Calamari Fritters were well done again and they were delicious. They did not have the usual foul taste when it is not done well. There was a decent amount of the Fritters in this platter and I would rate the Calamari Fritters at 9.5/10 . Besides this, there were a whole load of French Fries too. They fries were fried to crispness and they were good. The only setback with this was that towards the bottom of the Fries, it started becoming too salty and I think it had not been mixed well when the salt was added. Otherwise, it was nice and I would rate their fries at 7.5/10 .

Grilled Chicken Breast
There were two slices of Grilled Chicken Breast and this too was nice. The meat was tender and juicy but the marination was mild. Would have been better if the marination sauce used was thicker and that would have surely added a deeper flavour to this. Nevertheless, it was still nice and we enjoyed it. I would rate this at 7.9/10 .

Chipolata & Hungarian Sausages
There was only one slice of Hungarian Sausage in the platter and this must be due to the fact that it is quite expensive. Nevertheless, this platter itself is quite pricey and I believe that they could have added more of it. The Hungarian Sausage was really nice and I would rate it at 10/10 . There was another 5 pieces of Chipolata Sausage and this was only above average. It was not much to do with the preparation but more on the sausage itself. I would only rate this sausage at 6/10 . Would have been better if there were more of the previous than the latter.

Pulled Pork Nachos
There was also some decent amount of the above Pulled Pork Nachos and they were nice. It was loaded with Cheese and Mustard Sauce and was baked well. I would rate this at 7.8/10 . By the end of the meal, we managed to finish the entire platter except for the BBQ Pork Ribs and I feel that this platter is generally worth it for the price paid and location but certainly could be improved with all the recommendations mentioned above.

Ongoing Beer Promotions

3 Pint Kilkenney @ RM 45.00 (Happy Hours)

Kilkenny Beer

3 Pints Strongbow @ RM 65.00
Well, no visit to a bar is complete without having some beers. They had some decent Beer promotions and this outlet is also a member of Tiger FC. Their beer selections were limited to Tiger Beer, Carlsberg, Guiness Stout, Strongbow, Kilkenny and Paulaner. I had initially wanted to have Hoegarden but they did not have it and as such we went for a round of Kilkenny and then Strongbow. Kilkenney was going for 3 pints at RM 45.00 and Strongbow was going for RM 65.00 for 3 pints. I have tried Kilkenny many times before but this was the first time that I am trying Strongbow and it was nice. Tasted different from the usual beers that I usually have. Overall, we had a good night here and I must commend the manager Eric for doing a great job. He kept checking on the customers, striking conversations and getting their feedback. In fact we had asked him for some football scores as it was a game night and he took the effort of surfing the net and giving us the results. The way I look at it is not about having the score results but it was all about customer satisfaction and he was doing a great job by going the extra mile. Keep it up Eric!!! Food wise, there were some mixed comments but overall I think that they are doing a decent job. I would surely return to this place sometime soon.

S' Mores Bar & Restaurant @ Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur

My parents were in town today and I invited them to have dinner together. With that said, I wanted to go someplace that we have not been before. It was then that my brother suggested that we should try one of the eateries in this newly constructed place called The Sphere in Bangsar South.

S'Mores in Bangsar South
I initially though that it would be very difficult to find this place as I had passed Bangsar South so many times from the Federal Highway but could never find the entrance but with the GPS, that problem was resolved and I learned today that you would need to access this place via Kerinchi, near Pantai Hillpark. Once we got near, there were a number of road signs that directed us to this place. Parking was also not a problem and we managed to park at the outdoor car park which is just beside this restaurant. The restaurant had quite a number of customers when we arrived and a number of the tables were occupied by some local celebrities.  Most of their waitresses were Filipinos and they were very efficient and friendly. The inner seating area is designed more like a bar with dim lighting, bar counters and a number of tables. As it was not that hot today, we chose to sit outside.

The Menu

The Menu

The Menu
Their menu was packed with Porky dishes. They had a decent range of German, Italian, Mediterranean and Western dishes. It is good as we were in the mood for some good meat today. I find their prices to be quite cheap as well compared to many of the similar providers out there. Above this, they do have some great beer promotions and it seems that this is one of the cheapest places to get good beers. Their promotions are really worth it. But for us tonight, beer was out as my brother had to drive my parents back to our hometown after this and I too had to head in to office early tomorrow.

Coca Cola @ RM 6.00

Cafe Latte @ RM 10.00
We had the above drinks today. Their Latte was not bad. It was not great but it was good. In fact, their Latte took some time to be delivered and it seems that they had just ground the beans then. I guess not many order Latte's in bars. I would rate the Cafe Latte at 7.5/10 .

Whole Roasted Chicken @ RM 78.00

Mediterranean Salad Included

Some Roasted Potato's
This platter comes with a whole Roasted Chicken stuffed with herbs and spices, Roasted Potato's and some Mediterranean Salad. We found this to be really delicious and the chicken was prepared very well. It also came with some dip sauces and they were Mustard Sauce and Black Pepper Sauce. The meat was tender and the juices from the chicken and herbs were intact. Every bite was juicy and delicious. A recommended dish here.  I would rate this dish at 9/10 .

Mixed Sausage Platter 2 @ RM 32.00
They had two different platters of German Sausages and this is their Platter 2. Platter 1 is priced at RM 28.00 and platter 2 at RM 32.00 . For the size of the sausages, this dish was truly worth it. This dish comes with some mashed potato's and salad. The sausages were extremely good, the mashed potato's excellent and the salad was nice. I would rate this dish at 10/10 . Another excellent dish here.

Hawaiian Pork Pizza @ RM 28.00
This is by far the best Pork Pizza that I have ever tasted. Comes with chunks of Pork Bacon, Sausages and Pineapple. Every bite was truly a taste to remember. Even as I write this entry now, I can clearly remember the taste of this pizza. A taste to remember always. I would strongly recommend this Pizza. My rating, 10/10 .

Us Having Dinner
Overall, the evening was simply fantastic. This restaurant serves excellent food, the service was very good and the ambiance was nice. Though being a bar cum bistro, it is a place that you can go with the family including kids and have a great time. I am definitely looking forward to come here again and try out some of their other dishes.

Grumps Restaurant @ Kelana Jaya, Petaling Jaya

Located by the Kelana Jaya lake in Plaza Kelana Jaya, is Grumps Restaurant that serves great Italian and German food. This restaurant came highly recommended by a friend of mine and as such, we decided to visit this place for dinner today. Finding this place is quite simple. It is in Plaza Kelana Jaya which is just behind the MAS Training Centre and Manipal International University. It is best to visit this place during weekdays as on weekdays, it is very difficult to get a parking bay but on weekends, the place is almost deserted. You can park at the visitors parking and directly access this restaurant through the back door. The other alternative would be to walk along the lake until you reach Block D and this restaurant would then be visible.

Us At the Restaurant
Some may prefer to sit outdoors as the scenery is quite nice by the lake and the place is covered and well ventilated. In contrary, we decided to sit indoors as it was a little hot this evening. The restaurant is manned by some foreign girls but they seemed very capable and hardworking. Everything was so organised in the restaurant. The design was also lovely and the kitchen was clearly visible through the glass panel that separates the dining area and the kitchen. As I had made a reservation earlier this week, our table was already set up for us.

Some of the dishes here

Root Beer @ RM 4.00
They have a very extensive menu. Most of their dishes were Pork based. In addition, they had a number of seafood and chicken dishes too. After spending some time on their menu, we placed our orders. I went for the above Root Beer and it was priced at RM 4.00 each. They have a great collection of German Beers and liquors too.

Garlic Bread @ RM 6.00
For the starters, we went for the above Garlic Bread and some soup. The Garlic Bread was nice and it was done very well. I would rate these at 8/10 .

Cream of Wild Mushroom Soup @ RM 10.00
The Cream of Wild Mushroom was nice too. But this was not home made and it was off the Campbells can. Nevertheless, it was well fixed. I would rate this preparation at 8/10 .

Grilled Butterfly Steak @ RM 24.00
This was my main dish. It was typically Pork Loin marinated in Mustard Sauce and it came with coleslaw and roasted potato's. I definitely must say that this dish was perfect. The meat was extremely tender, well marinated and the sauce was lovely. The accompaniments was also really good. I would rate this dish at 10/10 .

Chicken Diavola @ RM 20.00
This was Angie's main dish. It was typically grilled Chicken Thigh with Garlic, Chili and Rosemary Sauce and comes with coleslaw and roasted potato's. Another dish that was well done. The chicken was cooked well, the meat was tender and the juices were intact. Marinating it with rosemary sauce was a great thing that added additional flavour to the meat. Another dish worth trying here. I would rate this dish at 8.5/10 .

Sausage Platter @ RM 38.00
This was a typical German dish and it comes with an assortment of Pork and Veal Sausages. It is priced at RM 38.00 and for the size of the sausages, I would not say that it is expensive. In fact, I find it to be cheap and the sausages were really excellent. You do not need the Mustard Sauce to dip them. The sausages were by themselves absolutely delicious. I would strongly recommend this dish. My ratings for this dish would be a perfect 10/10 .

Chocolate Brownies with Ice Cream @ RM 10.00
This was one of the two desert items we had ordered. I find their brownies to be nice, though it was not the best one that I have tried. I would rate this at 8.5/10 .

Creme Caramel @ RM 10.00
This desert was only above average. The taste was quite bland and it was not up to the mark. I would only rate this at 4/10 .

Overall, this restaurant serves great Italian and German dishes. Though the deserts were only about average, their main dishes were truly excellent. The service rendered was also very good and the location and scenery is another plus point here. This would be one of my favourite restaurants for German food going forward.
