Canton-i Restaurant @ Putrajaya, Wilayah Persekutuan

This evening we decided to check out Canton-i Restaurant that is located in IOI City Mall, Putrajaya. Actually, this is part of a big group of restaurants that have outlets throughout Malaysia. The place seems to be always crowded and I know for a fact that their prices are premium.

The Restaurant in IOI City Mall, Putrajaya

Sauces
They have a very good system to manage their customers and crowd. Their staffs seemed to be very professional in their approach and everything happened methodically. Each table was set with all that a customer would ever need in terms of cutlery and sauces. Their menu seemed pretty impressive and they had so many dishes and they definitely looked good. Once again, you would never know precisely unless you try them. So we ordered a few dishes and with that in a matter minutes, the food was served.

Iced Water @ RM 0.90

Steamed Peanuts @ RM 1.89
It's not surprising that they charge for Iced Water and again, the amount charged wasn't really high. There are some normal restaurants in Bukit Bintang area that charge much more than this. Their Steamed Peanuts were really tasty and addictive. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

Char Siew & Siew Yuk Platter @ RM 33.02

Sauces
Their Char Siew and Siew Yuk platter was one that we thoroughly enjoyed. Their Char Siew was a little fatty and those that like it this way would surely enjoy this preparation. For me, I would rate this at 8/10. Their Siew Yuk was really good. Crispy and so juicy, just the way I love it and this I would definitely rate at 9/10.

Sitr Fried String Beans @ RM 21.70

Roasted Pork With Tofu @ RM 26.42
The Stir Fried String Beans was good. The preparation was just perfect, not overdone and the add on's truly added to the taste. 8/10 shall be my rating for this. The Roasted Pork with Tofu however was a huge disappointment. The Roast Pork was nice but the Fuchok was hard like plastic. Seriously, it was that bad and it required a tremendous effort of chewing and that was really annoying. For me, this is definitely a shame and I would only give this 3/10.

Deep Fried Cod Fish @ RM 101.88
Firstly, I know that this is pricey and we were already informed about the price when ordering. So, I shall not complain about that as we were prepared to pay. However, taste wise, it was not up to the expected standards. The fish wasn't fresh either and it tasted rather bland. 2/10 shall be my rating for this.

Bill
To summarise our dining experience, I would say that their customer service was excellent and that was the only one that was good. Food wise, their Roasted Meat Platter was good and so was their Stir Fried String Beans. The Tofu dish as well as the Deep Fried Cod Fish which cost us RM 101.88 that you see above was nowhere near the expected taste. I know that these guys used to do some amazing food before but it's just sad to see that this outlet isn't keeping up to it's reputation.

Go Lokal Cafe @ Putrajaya, Wilayah Persekutuan

We were driving around Putrajaya looking for a good place to have Cendol and when I looked up Google, it seemed to advise me to give this place a try based on the community feedback. All the comments seemed good and so, we decided to trop by after lunch.

Go Lokal Cafe Inside Suria Mall

Contact Details For Catering

Business Hours
This outlet is located inside Suria Mall, Putrajaya. Honestly, I did not even know that such a mall existed until this afternoon. There was no proper signage as well but it was connected to Dorsett Putrajaya Hotel. The mall seemed pretty decent with a number of outlets being open. Coming back to this cafe, they have a huge variety of Cendol to choose from. Having had a heavy lunch, we decided to keep it simple and go for the basic one.

Cendol @ RM 3.00

Nice & Refreshing
Their Basic Cendol was priced at RM 3.00 per bowl. Decent portions and the ingredients were just nice. Of course, there is so much add on's to choose from if you're in the mood for a much richer Cendol. For me, I found the quality to be good and my rating for this shall be 8/10.

The Bill
For some good Cendol in Putrajaya, you might want to try Go Lokal Cafe that is located inside Suria Mall. Prices may be slightly high but quality ingredients are used. Good taste and comfortable seating as well.

Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul @ IOI City Mall, Putrajaya

We were in the mood to have some Cendol but were not too familiar where to go find a good one in Putrajaya and that was when my friend suggested to try this one called Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul which is located inside IOI City Mall. Since I have never tried this outlet, I decided to just follow.

Good Variety

Pay First And The Items Would Be Sent Over
This outlet is located on the Lower Ground Floor of IOI City Mall. Pretty impressive set up and the crowd was very encouraging. However, the prices are not cheap and that's understandable since they are located inside a premium location. It's almost like a fast food concept, you walk in, queue up, place your orders and pay for them and then return to your table. The food items would be sent over once it's ready.

Teochew Cendol Original @ RM 6.50

Ice Kacang Original @ RM 6.50
We tried their Cendol as well as Ice Kacang. I would say that it was above average. Not one that was exceptionally good as I have tasted much better ones. Perhaps, it is just conveniently located inside a mall and that draws the  crowd to this place. My rating for both the items shall be 7/10.

Hong Kong Sheng Kee Desert @ IOI City Mall, Putrajaya

After a long time, we decided to go for some mall food instead of the local street food that I would usually blog about. For a change, we decided to visit IOI City Mall and try this Hong Kong restaurant that specialises in Cantonese Cuisine. Hong Kong Sheng Kee Desert is one that needs no introduction. They are widely spread across Singapore and have a relatively good market presence in Malaysia too. Despite having been around for a number of years and in a number of malls, I have never tried the food there. That being the case, we decided to have dinner here.

The Restaurant Located On The Lower Ground Level Of IOI City Mall

Lovely Decoration
It was a rather early dinner for us and that being the case, the restaurant was quite empty when we arrived. But once it crossed 7 pm, customers started coming in. This restaurant is located on the Lower Ground Floor of IOI City Mall and it must be one of those few non Halal restaurants to be in opened in this mall.

The above are just two pages from their menu. Their full menu was quite extensive and they had a good range of Cantonese dishes to choose from. Prices were the usual mall prices and I definitely would not complain about that. Ordering was a breeze and I found their service levels to be decent.

Hong Kong Style Milk Coffee @ RM 4.50

Crisp Fried Marinated Pork Chop Noodles @ RM 16.90
Their Hong Kong Style Coffee was as expected. It had a deep bodied taste and slightly on the bitter sweet side. Definitely not suitable for those who do not like much sugar in their drinks. However, this is how it is in Hong Kong and in that sense, it was quite authentic. RM 4.50 for this seemed reasonable and my rating for this drink shall be 9/10. Their Crisp Fried Marinated Pork Chop Noodles were quite good too. The usual Egg Noodles served in soy sauce and topped with some crisp Pork Chops. Portions were good and the Egg Noodles were so soft and silky. Very authentic taste as well and for those who are only used to the Malaysian style of Wan Tan Mee, then this would be something quite different as the sauces are on the light side and most of the flavours are derived from the hot springy Egg Noodles. The Pork Chops were decent too. My rating for this dish shall be 8/10.

SK Signature Combination Noodles @ RM 17.90

Both Noodles Comes With A Bowl Of Clear Soup
Their SK Signature Combination Noodles was the same variety of dry Egg Noodles served with sauces but this came with a generous amount of Pork Dumplings and some Char Siew and it was priced a Ringgit more. The flavours of the overall dish was equally good as the earlier one. Their Char Siew was decent and their Pork Dumplings were excellent. Very juicy and delicious it was. My rating for this dish shall be 8/10 as well. Both noodle dishes came with a small bowl of clear soup and this soup was good. Balanced flavours and went well with the mains. 7/10 shall be my rating for this soup.

Hong Kong Siew Mai @ RM 7.90

Spare Ribs with Yam & Black Bean @ RM 7.90
We also tried two Dim Sum varieties and they were the Spare Ribs with Yam & Black Bean and the other was a tray of Siew Mai. Both were good and I specifically enjoyed the previous more that the latter. I would rate their Siew Mai at 7/10 and their Spare Ribs at 9/10.

Our Bill
If you're looking for a good place to have Cantonese dishes inside shopping malls, you might want to check out Hong Kong Sheng Kee Desert. We tried some of their Noodles as well as a few Dim Sum varieties this evening and found the food to be quite good. Standard mall prices apply but it's definitely worth it.

J&G Fried Chicken @ Putrajaya, Wilayah Persekutuan

One of the recent outlets to open in IOI City Mall is J&G Fried Chicken. J&G is a famous Taiwanese Street Food and over there, it is knows as Ji Guang, hence the abbreviation of J&G. It's all about chicken bits (pop corn chicken) that are deep fried and they top it up with some spicy flavours. Over there in Taiwan, this is a huge business and it is great to see that they have started opening outlets in Malaysia.

The Outlet On The Lower Ground Floor

Their menu was rather simple. Just a few dishes surrounding this Fried Chicken. To add a Malaysian touch, they had also introduced a Nasi Lemak combination. Since it was almost lunch hour, I decided to go for the Nasi Lemak combination and had another drink. The concept is rather simple. Place your orders and pay for them. Then they would fry the chicken and season them according to taste.

Honey Lemon @ RM 4.00

Nasi Lemak with Pop Corn Chicken @ RM 12.80

Sambal Packed in a Packet
In a matter of minutes, my meal was served. The Honey Lemon was okay. Prepacked stuff that must have been done at the factory level. Taste wise, it was okay and I would rate it at 7/10. The Pop Corn Chicken was freshly prepared and it comes in a paper bag. Their Nasi Lemak however may be one that comes from another vendor and the sambal is packed separately in a small plastic packet.

Nasi Lemak with Pop Corn Chicken

Closer Look At The Pop Corn Chicken
The Nasi Lemak tasted very familiar. It tasted exactly like the one that I usually buy from Shell Stations, except that this came in a different packaging. The Sambal was quite oily and basically there was nothing much in it. Just some oily sambal and onions. No anchovies whatsoever. The Sambal itself was sweet, I mean really sweet was wasn't to my liking. Honestly, the Nasi Lemak was just so so and if I were to rate this, I would give it 5/10. The Pop Corn Chicken itself was nice but the amount of artificial flavouring used is definitely frightening. Taste wise, I would give it 7/10.

If you're really into Taiwanese flavours, then I would recommend giving this Fried Chicken a try. Otherwise, you may not enjoy it. The Chicken itself was good but the amount of artificial flavours used is frightening. The Nasi Lemak too was nothing to shout about.

Pablo Mini: The Cheese Tart @ Putrajaya, Wilayah Persekutuan

Pablo, the world famous Cheese Tart company had recently opened it's doors in Malaysia and their second outlet is in IOI City Mall, Putrajaya. I have always wanted to try this but for the last few months, each time I try to get something from this outlet, there's a mile long queue and I am not one who has such patience to queue for hours. Today, surprisingly their outlet in IOI City Mall did not have the usual crowd and that was an opportunity that I would not miss.

The Outlet on the Lower Ground Floor

This Is An Awesome Deal

Variety of Cheese Tarts

Variety Of Cheese Tarts
This outlet in IOI City Mall is located on the Lower Ground Floor. Pablo carries three varieties of Cheese Tarts, one standard small one and two large ones. Today, the most expensive version was on a 50% discount and I did not want to miss that opportunity.

Hygienically Packed

Comes With Ice Packs
The quality of the packaging was simply mind blowing. Not only was it packed in a sealed box, they had also added some ice packs to keep the Cheese Tart cold. Despite having travelled all the way from Putrajaya to Tanjung Malim, it was still very cold.

Cheese Tart @ RM 39.90 (Normal Price RM 79.90)

Delicious To The Last Bite
This Cheese Tart was definitely one that was made with the best of ingredients. Each bite was heavenly and it was totally worth the price paid. If you're looking for an excellent Cheese Tart that would be a taste to remember, this would be it.

Dave's Deli @ Putrajaya, Wilayah Persekutuan

Dave's Deli is one of those chain of restaurants that has strategically located themselves in a number of malls across Malaysia. Despite having been around for many number of years now, I never got an opportunity to visit them before. We were in IOI City Mall this afternoon and decided to check this restaurant out.

Located On The Lower Ground Floor of IOI City Mall

Special Weekday Discounts

Queue Up To Place Your Orders

All Items Have Been Pre-Prepared
This restaurant is located on the Lower Ground Floor of IOI City Mall. The overall ambience was more like a fast food outlet as opposed to a Western Diner. Everyone had to queue up and place their orders and all the food had been prepared. What the staffs do is that based on your orders, they'd have to just place them on a plate and send over to you.

Lamb Chop @ RM 23.49
For RM 23.49 , we got two huge slices of lamb, a heap of mashed potatoes, some salad and vegetables which I felt was really value for money. This lot would be just perfect for a big eater. The meat itself was nicely done but the overall dish could have been better. My rating for this shall be 7/10.

Hainanese Chicken Chop @ RM 19.62
Their Hainanese Chicken Chop was not so great. The sauce was too light and a little bland and the chicken did have a slightly weird taste and texture. The fries were nothing much as well. I would only give this 4/10.

Bill
Dave's Deli does serve some very reasonably priced Western food and the portions are huge. However, the dishes could have been better. Their Lamb Chop was decent but as an overalll dish, it was not up to my expectations. Their Hainanese Chicken Chop was not so great either. My suggestion would be to head there with minimal expectations. Then, you'd be able to appreciate the value for money meals.
