Amma's Signatures Batang Kali Bamboo Briyani @ Batang Kali, Selangor

Having dined many times at this restaurant in Batang Kali that had sells Bamboo Briyani, we decided to drop by again last weekend. Bamboo Briyani is the in thing now that is making waves in the Klang Valley and from all the places that I have tried, this place serves some really good Briyani. Having missed their unique flavours, we decided to drop by on the way back from Raub.

Much Larger Space Now
For first timers, it most likely would be quite a challenge to find this place. To get here, Google Bandar Baru Ligamas Batang Kali and use Google Maps to get you there. Once you're at the junction, turn right into this housing estate and you would see a Shell Petrol Station on your left. Shortly ahead, there is another traffic light. Keep going straight and look on your left side for King's Bakery. These guys are located right beside them and just a half shop. What I understand is that their main business is catering and they have been doing that for over a decade now. Only recently, about a couple of months now to be precise, have they started doing this Bamboo Briyani. Compared to my last visit, they have opened a much larger area for dine in and that's something that I should congratulate them since their business has been really good and customers to come fro afar looking for this restaurant. Lots of orders are received through phone calls and mostly they deliver right from Tanjung Malim up to Kuala Lumpur for a charge depending on the location. If you want to dine in, best to call them a day in advance and book your table. Mention the time of arrival, the type of Briyani that you want and number of pax. That is the kind of popularity that these guys have gotten in the last few months, once again all solely because of the excellent taste. In terms if the variety of Bamboo Briyani's that they have, they are Chicken Briyani, Fish Briyani, Mutton Briyani, Crab Briyani, Prawn Briyani and also Vegetarian Briyanis. I only called in earlier in the morning, around 10 am and they were fully booked and only had Chicken Briyani left. So, I went for that and the number of Briyani's that they had was for exactly three pax which was what I needed.

Our Briyani Being Served

So Deliciously Looking And Fantastic Aroma
It's great to see that they actually cook the Briyani in Bamboos and these are not reused like some restaurants. If you do takeaways, they actually give you in the bamboos too and the same applies to their deliveries as well.

Cucumber Raita
Service is very personal here and you feel like you're dining in a friend's house. There's no such thing as portions for Raita and the sides. They would serve you in a large container and you can take how much you want. These containers are left on your table till you finish your meal. Even if you want extra rice, that can be arranged as well. Do note that they have minimal can drinks and only have bottled waters. Coming to their Onion Raita, it was good and tasted very much like home cooked food. If I were to rate this, I would give it 9/10.

Jeera Curry
Besides the Raita, they also served us some delicious Jeera Curry and it was amazingly good. The semi mashed potatoes were cooked with lots of spices and it tasted like it was made with passion. 10/10 is what this deserves.

Chicken Bamboo Briyani @ RM 21.50

Our Bill For The Day
The Briyani came in individual bamboos and goodness, it looked so good. There's a large chunk of chicken and a hard boiled egg as well. The Bamboo Briyani came with lots of gravy and it was heavenly. You would need to mix the gravy and enjoy this heavenly meal. With all the additional sides, it was a mere RM 21.50 per pax. If you're in search of a good Bamboo Briyani, I would definitely recommend these guys. Amma's Signatures is definitely a class of it's own and I am definitely coming back for more soon. 10/10 is my rating for this heavenly preparation.

Amma's Signatures Bamboo Briyani @ Batang Kali, Selangor

Having tried this Batang Kali Bamboo Briyani sometime in early June, we were totally obsessed with it as it was truly one of the best Briyani's that we have tasted. We planned to have this again this weekend and travelling up to Batang Kali would have been a challenge. So I called them up to check if they were willing to deliver to Tanjung Malim and the agreed since they had some other delivery to cater to along that very same route. But, it is important to call them one day before at least for this delivery services.

Chicken & Mutton Briyani In Bamboos
At the agreed time, they were at my doorstep with the 2 varieties that we had ordered. The last time we only had their Chicken Briyani and this time around, wanted to give their Mutton Briyani a try as well. Besides the total, there was a delivery charge of RM 20.00 which I felt was very reasonable. I we would have driven to Batang Kali, it would have cost us much more than that. Despite the time taken for travels, the Briyani was very hot when they delivered. This shows the level of customer service that these people are investing in.

Mutton Briyani
The aroma of the Briyani was so good that I was salivating. Their Mutton Briyani came with chunks of Bone Marrow which was awesome. The rice was so good with the gravy and overall it was heavenly. So good, that I kept a little aside to have it again for dinner. I would definitely rate this 10/10.

Chicken Briyani
Since we had ordered for two pax, it came in a large Bamboo and goodness, it looked so good. There's two large chunks of chicken and two hard boiled eggs as well. The Bamboo Briyani came with lots of gravy and it tasted absolutely heavenly. With all the additional sides, it was a mere RM 19.90 per pax. If you're in search of a good Bamboo Briyani, I would definitely recommend these guys. Amma's Signatures was definitely a class of it's own. 10/10 is what I shall rate this.

Mutton Curry With Potatoes
They had some Mutton Perattal left overs and they served it to us at no additional charges. It's really nice of them to treat customers this way. The feeling is so good and this was delicious. Again, I would give this 9/10.

Potato Koottu
Besides the Raita, they also served us some delicious Potato Koottu and it was amazingly good. The semi mashed potatoes were cooked with lots of spices and it tasted like it was made with passion. 10/10 is what this deserves.

Onion Raita
Their Raita comes with only Onions. Though this may seem like a setback, I actually quite liked it since it came with thick curd. Taste wise, I would rate this at 9/10.

Even though the Bamboo Briyani's were delivered all the way from Batang Kali to Tanjung Malim, the taste was as good as dining at their restaurant and I was amazed at how hot it was despite the travel time. Truly one of the best Bamboo Briyani that I had tasted and it is a taste to remember. For me, Amma's Signature Bamboo Briyani is truly a class of it's own! Even if you can't make it to their restaurant in Batang Kali, do give them a call a day or two in advance and they would try their best to accommodate your orders. Absolutely heavenly food that is not to be missed.

Amma's Signatures Bamboo Briyani @ Batang Kali, Selangor

Having heard about this place in Batang Kali that had started selling Bamboo Briyani, we decided to drop by last weekend. Bamboo Briyani is the in thing now that is making waves in the Klang Valley and I had checked their Facebook page and it seems like there's lots of positive reviews. In fact, positive reviews was all that I could find and not a single negative review.

The Restaurant Next To King's Confectionery

The Owner
Initially it was quite a challenge to find this place as I was looking for a restaurant. Only when I called them, I realised that it's just a small space in one of the rows of shops. Only recently, about a fortnight to be precise, have they started doing this Bamboo Briyani and have opened up the outer office area as a small eatery. When I was here, there was a table that was booked by a Singaporean couple and another by someone from Penang. That is the kind of popularity that these guys have gotten in the last few days. In terms if the variety of Bamboo Briyani's that they have, they are Chicken Briyani, Fish Briyani, Mutton Briyani, Crab Briyani, Prawn Briyani and also Vegetarian Briyanis. Kedai Kopi Dan Makanan Hock Choon Kee @ Ulu Yam Lama, Selangor

Ulu Yam Lama is a quiet little settlement that is located off Batang Kali and this village is famous for one thing and that is Loh Mee. This is a century old tradition which draws customers from all around Malaysia in bus loads daily. This is my second visit here. The last time I was here was some 30 years ago. The roads may have changed, eateries may have blossomed but the signature dish has not changed even one bit. The moment you come into this village, you would be able to see numerous restaurants on both sides of the road and they all have one staple dish along with the many others that they sell.

The Original Restaurant

Mostly Buses and Singaporean Cars

Lot's  Of People From KL Too

Simple Layout
In fact, many of these restaurant owners come from the same family and the pioneer is this Restaurant Hock Choon Kee. Now it is run by the fourth generation. The founder was the one who initially started this business and earned a reputation for it. Being close to 95 years now, customers are still drawn to the same delicious food and I was not surprised to see that the place was crowded when we arrived. Some may prefer the restaurant opposite them which belongs to their cousin as that place is air conditioned and is perhaps more conducive for tourists. Us, being one who wished to stick to the original place, decided to stay with these guys.

All Set On The Table

Cutlery In Hot Water
We had to wait close to 15 minutes before getting a table. Since it was a non peak day, we were glad that the wait time was only 15 minutes. The signature dishes here are their Loh Mee, Hokkien Mee, Fish Paste, Fried Fish Balls, Black Pepper Toad and some Eel dishes. My Dad and brother are not as adventurous as I am. I love those frog dishes but they just don't. So had to stick with the basics. We then ordered Loh Mee, Hokkien Mee and Fish Paste. I had asked for the Fish Balls but it was sold out. Anyway, I was glad that I could at least try these signature dishes this afternoon. On some days, even those get sold out quite fast.

Fried Fish Paste with Dip Sauce

Dip Sauce
The first dish to arrive was the above Fried Fish Paste. It took them less than 10 minutes to prepare. And what a dish it was. My goodness! The Fish Paste was so soft like jelly. The freshness was evident in it's juicy taste and cotton like texture. I don't remember having one that is so good as this. A highly recommended dish, I would rate this at 10/10 .

Loh Mee

True Delight

Loved It
I know that many call this dish as Lor Mee but here in this villages, it is known as Loh Mee and I would like to stick with that name. And for those from the northern and southern region of Malaysia, this would definitely be different to the usual one there. This is the common version found in the central region. Perhaps we over here prefer this over that. But again, I find it amusing to see many Singaporeans coming here solely for this dish. The common preparation in Singapore is similar to those found in JB, Penang and Kedah. Perhaps, they too love this variety. Coming back to this restaurant, it took them a little longer to get this dish out. But it was fine as we were having a hearty conversation. The noodles were heavenly. They were soft and so good and that kind of texture, one would never get from those factory made ones. And there was so much of lard and greens added to the dish. A dash of vinegar and you're set on having some excellent Loh Mee. We loved it and I would rate this at 9.5/10 . Highly recommended!

Hokkien Mee

Hokkien Mee
Once again the name differs to what the people in Penang, Kedah and Johor call this dish but this is exactly how we call it in the central region. Another excellent preparation. In fact, this Char Mee was the best that I have tried anywhere. Absolutely loved it. Such a skillful preparation and it was evident why this place is still so famous after all these years. Delicious! I would rate this at 10/10 .

History Of This Place
These were just a fraction of the newspaper write ups that were put up on the walls. There were so many more but I believe these should be sufficient to show how good this place really is.

Signature Dishes

If you happen to pass this town sometime, I would strongly recommend visiting this restaurant. Well, when they get bus loads of customers coming from all parts of Malaysia, it surely can;t go wrong. Based on the dishes that we had including the drinks, the bill came to RM 45.00 which is quite reasonable. Good food, reasonable prices and truly an experience to remember.
