Good Taste Restaurant @ Puchong, Selangor

Good Taste Restaurant is a chain of Chinese Restaurants that is located in a number of places in the Klang Valley. Despite their geographical presence, I have never visited any of their outlets till this evening. While driving around in Bandar Puteri Puchong, we spotted this restaurant. The crowd seemed to be good and we decided to visit them for dinner.

The Restaurant In Bandar Puteri Puchong
Their outlet in Bandar Puteri Puchong is located along Jalan Puteri 2/4. This restaurant opens from breakfast till dinner and round the clock, there is always some kind of crowd there which is a very good indicator that the food has got to be good. As for this restaurant, the main dining are is air-conditioned and they also have a small open air dining area, perhaps for smokers and this is located at the very front, where the food preparation is being made. So, if you want to sit in this area, do note that it can be quite warm due to the heat coming from the kitchen.

Their menu was quite impressive covering their signature dish, Wantan Mee and some other noodle preparations. Besides the Wantan Mee, their other top sellers are their Char Siew and Siew Yuk. Both meats are in high demand here. Being in a pricey neighbourhood like Bandar Puteri Puchong, I felt that their prices were quite reasonable.

Iced Coffee (Big) @ RM 3.40

Cutlery
The good thing is that all that you might need like cutlery, sauces and tissue were neatly placed on all tables. This is good as the waiters can now concentrate serving the dishes instead of running around trying to fetch these items. In a matter of minutes, our drink which is a tall glass of Iced Coffee was served. It was extremely good and reminded me of the coffee that we used to get at the old Hainanese establishments. Just perfect and it was really deep bodied. My rating for this drink shall be 10/10.

Platter of Char Siew & Siew Yuk @ RM 13.30

Chili Dip Sauce
Oh, just look at their Char Siew and Siew Yuk. They were so juicy and tasty. Both meats were so perfect that we enjoyed every bit of it. The fat and meat were so balanced and each did not overpower the other. So amazingly good. Both deserves a rating of 9/10. Similarly, their Chilli Dip Sauce was excellent too. Not too thick or diluted and the flavours were strong with a hint of lime. Just perfect and this too shall get a rating of 9/10 from me.

Dry Curry Chicken Wantan Mee (Small) @ RM 8.90

Complimentary Clear Soup

Pickled Chilli
Since I had already ordered a platter of Char Siew & Siew Yuk, I decided to go for their Curry Chicken Wantan Mee instead, just to get an opportunity to taste their Curry Chicken too. This was priced at RM 8.90 for the small portion and it came with a small bowl of clear soup. Their Wantan Mee was so good. Seriously so soft and springy and they were generous with the sauces as well. Their Curry Chicken had some lovely flavours and the blended gravy and sauces totally gave this dish such a unique taste. Really an excellent preparation and my rating for this dish shall be 9/10. Their Clear Soup was good too and for that, I would give it 8/10.

Fried Dumplings @ RM 7.90
Their Fried Dumplings were pretty good as well. Despite being deep fried, the dumplings did not have any trace of oil and it was served hot and crispy which the inside was juicy. You might not even need the dip sauce as it was so good on it's own. 8/10 shall be my rating for this preparation.

Another good place in Bandar Puteri Puchong to have Wantan Mee would be Good Taste Restaurant that is located along Jalan Puteri 2/4. Their Wantan Mee is so good and you have got to try their Char Siew and Siew Yuk as well. For me, they were just heavenly. Besides Bandar Puteri Puchong, they do have a number of outlets located across the Klang Valley.

Meng Kee Wantan Mee @ Shah Alam, Selangor

I have heard so much about this Wantan Mee place in Glenmarie called Meng Kee Wantan Mee but never really got a chance to visit them as it is outside my usual radar. This morning, we were heading up north and that was when that I decided to drop by for breakfast.

The Restaurant in Glenmarie, Shah Alam
It is not difficult to find this restaurant as it is within the commercial area in Glenmarie. Do note that there is another Meng Kee as well who are their competitors and they too are located directly opposite this restaurant. I have not visited them and plan to do so in the near future. Parking can be a challenge here during the day and it is always best to reverse park as the street is quite narrow and sometimes you get some drivers who just park their vehicles all over.

Besides Wantan Mee which is the primary dish that this restaurant is famous for, they do have an array of other dishes as well. Prices are reasonable though and based on my observations, the portions are decent too.

Iced White Coffee @ RM 3.50

Green Chili's in Vinegar

Minced Pork Sausage @ RM 6.50
Their Iced White Coffee was decent. The guy taking the orders had forewarned us that this is the standard 3 in 1 sachet and that being the case, we couldn't complain. Taste wise, it was just the usual off he shelf stuff. As for the chilies, you have got to get them yourself and they are located near the cashier counter. Their Minced Pork Sausage was very good. I have tasted this in a number of restaurants in the Klang Valley and this certainly is one of the better ones. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

Char Siew Wantan Mee (Small) @ RM 5.50

Wonton's in Clear Soup
The Egg Noodles were springy and good and the amount of sauces provided were quite generous. Overall, I would certainly have to agree that this is a good plate of Wantan Mee. My rating for this shall be 8/10. Another thing that this restaurant is famous for is their Char Siew. It was not too fatty and had the perfect balance of meat and fat and definitely not overly charred. Surely it was a good Char Siew and I shall give this 8/10 as well. Along with the Wantan Mee, a bowl of Clear Soup with Wonton's were provided and this is the norms in most places. I found their Wontons to be quite meaty and the overall texture was good. 8/10 would be my rating for this. Their Clear Soup was rather mild tasting and that had room for improvement.

Meng Kee Wantan Mee has been around for a long time and they are famous for their Wantan Mee and Char Siew. The noodles were good and besides these, they do have a huge variety of dishes that you could order. Reasonable prices and good food. Worth checking the place out when you're in Shah Alam.

Restoran Kong Mah @ Sungai Buloh, Selangor

If one is to ask me where is my favourite place in the Klang Valley for Dim Sum, then Restoran Kong Mah would be my answer. I have been dining here for more than a decade and not even once, did I return unsatisfied.

Restoran Kong Mah in Sungai Buloh New Village

Steamed Dim Sum

Continuous Flow Of Customers
This restaurant is tucked in the quiet township of Sungai Buloh New Village. Despite it being is such a remote location, they are so famous and draw customers from all over the Klang Valley. Business is very good so much so, at any time of the day, the restaurant is crowded. The good thing here is the variety that they offer and you get a very good variety of both Steamed Dim Sum as well as Fried ones. Prices may be on the high side but do bear in mind that it's all handmade by them and that being said, the quality and taste is just way better than the rest.

Herbal Tea
One of my favourite drinks here would be their Herbal Tea. It is so pure and concentrated that you would end up ordering more than one. Pricey but certainly good. My rating for this shall be 10/10.

Their Steamed Dim Sum variety is simply excellent and the above are just a handful of items that you would get here. Another beauty of the above variety is that each one has it's unique taste and you do not get a close similarity in terms of taste. Since there were only the two of us, there is a limit as to the number of items that we could go for. Each and every one was fresh and tasty. My rating for the above shall be 9/10.

The above are just a handful of the Fried items that you could get here. Even by then, we were already quite full but for tasting sake, we wanted to try them. Fresh would be the key word and taste wise, truly heavenly stuffs. Once again, 9/10 would be my rating for these.

Another two of my favourites here would be their Pigs in Blanket and the Lotus Leaf Rice. Both are extremely good. If I were to rate them taste wise, I shall give the previous 9/10 and the latter 10/10. Highly recommended.

The Bill
If you're looking for an excellent place to have Dim Sum in the Klang Valley, my recommendation would be Restoran Kong Mah that is located in Sungai Buloh New Village. Prices are slightly on the high side, nevertheless, the food is amazingly good and fresh. Excellent variety of Steamed and Fried Dim Sum and their service levels are good.

Yi Dian Xin @ Changi, Singapore

This evening, I am heading out of Singapore and back to Malaysia. As my work finished late, I was in airport at around 7 pm and I did not have enough time to find something for dinner outside in the city. As I was strolling the waiting lounge in Terminal 4, I came across this restaurant called Yi Dian Xin which seemed new.

The Restaurant In Terminal 4, Changi Airport

Coca Cola @ SGD 2.50
It seemed like a specialty Cantonese restaurant with a list of food items that seemed decently priced, despite being a restaurant that is located inside the airport. I then ordered myself a drink and started exploring their menu.

Their Menu had an impressive range of dishes to choose from. After going though it a couple of times, I decided to go for Wan Tan Noodles since that one seemed to be one of those in house specialties. The entire restaurant was very methodical. Right from the waiters to the Captain, each had a specific role and they all played their part very well.

BBQ Pork Wantan Noodles @ SGD 9.30

Complimentary Clear Soup
The Wantan Noodles itself had a very light texture to it. Sauces were aplenty and they were quite mild tasting, unlike the heavy bodied sauce that we get in Malaysia. Their BBQ Pork had a lovely texture as well. This dish comes with a bowl of complimentary soup. However, there is no Wanton Dumplings in them which is somewhat standard in Malaysia. Nevertheless, the flavours of the soup were good. My rating for this noodles and the Char Siew shall be 8/10. The soup, it would give it a 7/10.

Siew Mai @ SGD 6.20
I must confess that the Siew Mai was very delicious. In fact, it was one of the best Siew Mai's that I have tasted. Hand crafted and it was very fresh. It was so juicy that I did not need any dip sauce. 10/10 would be my rating for this dish.
