Liang Li Ikan Bakar @ Pandamaran, Selangor

A couple of days back, we were in Pandamaran and another place that we were told to visit by our friends would be Liang Li Ikan Bakar that is also located in Restoran Pandamaran One Six Eight. However, he was closed that evening and we missed that opportunity that day. Today, we were back here again for work and this evening, we decided to check that place out.

The Sign Visible From Afar

The Restaurant
This restaurant is always crowded and most often, you may not get parking close by. Be prepared to walk at least 500 meters. The entire street is quite dimly lit up too and so, once you're on this street, please drive slowly or else you may miss this stall. Alternatively, use Waze and choose Liang Li Ikan Bakar as your destination.

Liang Li Ikan Bakar Stall
It is just a humble stall in the food court but the demand is so great. He starts at 5 pm daily and if you want to try a number of seafood varieties, then my suggestion would be to be here before 6 pm. We were here at 7.30 pm and all he had was a handful of fish remaining. Stingray, Prawns and Squid were all sold out. Having come this far, we had to settle for what was available.

Grilled Ikan Senangin @ RM 38.00

RM 30.00 For This Fish
Prices were not cheap and he does mention that before hand so as to avoid any arguments later on. He had so many orders so much so, we had to wait almost 2 hours before the Grilled Fish was served. Was it worth the wait? Oh yes, it was. The fish was heavenly and the dip sauce was so spicy and went very well with the fish. My rating for this Ikan Bakar would be 8/10. Liang Li Ikan Bakar truly lives up to it's reputation and is worth a drive to Pandamaran. Best to be there before 6 pm as you get to enjoy more seafood variety then.

Restoran Pandamaran One Six Eight @ Pandamaran, Selangor

We recently had to do a trip to Pandamaran for some work and by the time we were done, it was past 7 pm. I had been asking a few friends who are locals as to where would be a good place to have dinner and all of them recommended this particular restaurant that's located along Jalan Chan Ah Choo, Pandamaran. Since everyone that I had asked recommended this restaurant, we were somewhat convinced that this has to be a place that we should visit for dinner.

Look Out For The Sign Board

More Like A Food Court
Once you enter Jalan Chan Ah Choo, do slow down as the place is quite dark in the evenings. It is more like a Chinese Settlement area which has boomed over the years. The place was crowded and we had to park some 100 meters away. There were a number of stalls but we decided to keep to the recommendations and order precisely that.

Oyster Eggs Stall

Oyster Eggs (Small) @ RM 15.00
Though it's written as Ikan Bakar on the stall, this stall only does Oyster Eggs. As suggested, we decided to give this a try. Definitely quite pricey. The small portion was priced at RM 15.00 . Taste wise, it was nice. The eggs were nicely done and the oysters were not too overpowering. My rating for this shall be 8/10.

The Anchor Stall

Hokkien Mee (Small) @ RM 10.00

Yee Mee (Small) @ RM 10.00
This is the anchor stall at this restaurant at they have a variety of dishes that they offer. Right for the food that you would get in a typical seafood restaurant to simple dishes like noodles, it's all available here. Prices are steep. For one pax, they charge RM 10.00 which is something that I would consider quite expensive. Besides that, the waiting time is really long as well. It took them approximately 50 minutes to deliver those dishes that we had ordered. That was the volume of orders that they had to clear prior to my turn.

Their Hokkien Mee was very different to what I have had in the Klang Valley. It wasn't dark brown as it should have been. This was more light coloured and so were the flavours. The bold taste that we get from the sauces was not present. A mild tasting dish and perhaps requires an acquired taste to enjoy. My rating for this shall be 6/10. Their Yee Mee too was different. The broth was much lesser and it had lots of leafy greens. However, the taste was to our liking. Very different to what we get in Kuala Lumpur. Once again, mild flavours, but it was nice and my rating for this shall be 7/10.

In summary, I find the preparation here to be very different compared to what we get in the Klang Valley. Despite being a place that came highly recommended by the locals, to me, everything tastes much milder in flavour and price wise, definitely much more expensive. Please be prepared to wait a really long time before being served as well.
