I Love Broga @ Broga, Selangor

When you're in Broga, you should also visit this stall called I Love Broga. They are located right in the town centre, facing the police station. Their specialty is their Ais Kacang, Hakka Noodles as well as their Wantan Mee which is very unique.

Just A Humble Stall

The Signage To Look Out For
The place isn't anything much. Just a humble tent with some chairs and tables. Two preparation counters located on each end of the stall, one for the Ais Kacang which is most often prepared by the father and on the other end, the noodles kiosk which is manned by the sons.

Their Menu is not limited to the above but these are their signature dishes. I always would go for their Dry Hakka Noodles but sadly they were sold out this afternoon. So we went for their Ais Kacang and their version of Wantan Mee which is prepared using Pan Mee.

Wantan Mee (Small) @ RM 5.00

All Stirred Up

Clear Soup
Their Wantan Mee here is very unique as it is prepared using Pan Mee which is something that is quite rare. Another thing would be they would add both curry as well as soy sauce for the preparation thus giving it the extra flavours. Served hot and it comes with lots of Fish Cake and Fuchok. Along with that, a small bowl with clear soup is served as well. Simple dish but lovely flavours and my rating for this shall be 8/10.

Ais Kacang @ RM 4.00

Super Good Preparation
Every time I visit Broga, this Ais Kacang is a must for me. They are very generous with the ingredients and it's not too sweet as well. Just nice and it's amazingly good for our weather. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

If you're visiting Broga, do look out for this stall called I Love Broga. It's located right in the middle of town, opposite the Police Station. Three things to look out for here, their Ais Kacang, Dry Hakka Noodles and their very own unique Wantan Mee. The place is very basic with just a few tables but the food here is really something.

Broga Recreational Fishing Park @ Broga, Selangor

One of my cousins were down this afternoon and he was looking for a very different kind of place to go for lunch. That was when I had proposed Broga Recreational Fishing Park because I was certain that he had not visited this place before and as such, it would surely be an experience to remember for him. Having sold him the idea of having lunch in a farm, we head down to Broga. In terms of directions, it would be quite difficult for me to precisely say and the place is not listed in Waze as well. Most importantly, there's no internet connection as you come close to this place. So, here's the directions for you. Firstly, set your destination at University of Nottingham on your GPS and get yourself there. Once you come to Nottingham, keep driving straight all the way. Even if it seems like you're in the middle of nowhere, just keep driving and you'd come to the town of Broga. From here, continue straight and you'd see a lot of seafood restaurant on both sides of the road. Once you come to an intersection which marks the border of Selangor - Negeri Sembilan, naturally the road will turn right but you keep driving straight. There would be the famous Dato Bak Chinese Temple with a small lane on the left which says road closes at 7 pm. Take that road and keep driving. At this point, you'd loose handphone signals but don't worry. Shortly, you would once again see lots of huge Chinese farm like restaurants on both sides. Keep driving till the last restaurant which is this Broga Recreational Fishing Park which would be on your left.
The Restaurant in Broga

All Dishes Are Cooked This Way
There's nothing fancy about this place. It's a shack like set up in the middle of the farm. All dishes are cooked in aluminium foils by being placed over charcoal fire. Nevertheless, the food is extremely good here and prices are reasonable.

The Menu

In terms of menu, what you see above is what they have here. Pretty much it's a fish dish, mutton, vegetables and prawns cooked with a variety of sauces. The style of preparation i.e. the sauces is one that you could choose from.

Teochew Style Fish with Spicy Soy Bean Paste @ RM 23.00

Dried Chili Mutton @ RM 16.00
All the dishes that I have shared in today's entry are their signature dishes. In terms of fish, I have tasted a variety of their preparation and my favourite is the above Teochew Style Fish with Spicy Soy Bean Paste that is priced at RM 23.00 . The fish is wonderfully cooked and the flavours goes deep into the meat. The sauce itself tastes amazingly good and my rating for this shall be 9/10. Dried Chili Mutton is also one of our favourites and I prefer this style over their Curry Mutton. It is just amazing to see how they could make the meat so tender and the accompanying ingredients just goes so well with the dish. 8/10 would be my rating for this dish.

Mixed Vegetables @ RM 8.00

Tomyam Prawns @ RM 45.00
Their Mixed Vegetable dish is another one that I would highly recommend. The vegetable is just so tasty and they are able to bring out the natural juices making it heavenly. It's just so sweet and nice. 10/10 would be my rating for this dish. The last one that we had this afternoon is their Tomyam Prawns which was priced at RM 45.00 . Pretty decent portions but I would prefer their Rice Wine & Ginger Prawns better. This was good but not as good as that. My rating for this shall be 7/10.

Fancy dining in the farm with freshly caught seafood cooked according to their signature styles? Then, this would be a fantastic place for your to visit. Despite being in Broga which is a 'Grilled Fish' heaven, it's not too far a drive from Kuala Lumpur. Prices have gone up but I would still consider them a good bargain compared to the city. Food is definitely good. If you have not been here yet, then it's totally worth the drive ad experience.

Broga ABC & Pan Mee @ Broga, Selangor

One of those places that is almost a mandatory place to visit in Broga is this ABC and Pan Mee stall. Previously, I had posted about the I Love Broga stall that is right opposite this stall and this time around, I shall be sharing information about Uncle Lim's Stall which is the more famous one.

The Famous Broga ABC & Pan Mee Stall

A Market Like Seating
One would hardly be able to miss this place as this is the first one that you would see once you come into Broga. This stall is located right opposite the Broga Police Station and you could use that as the landmark. The seating is very much like those old wet markets. Despite it's humble appearance, the place is always crowded with customers. Right opposite this stall, you would see another stall selling the same items. That is the I Love Broga stall which I had blogged before.

Soup Pan Mee

Soup Hakka Mee
The stall opposite specialises in Dry Hakka Pan Mee and this one does the soup version. Ingredients wise, I must confess that it came with generous mix of ingredients. There were black fungus, vegetables, minced meat, anchovies and the soup was so rich in flavours. Not only was the soup good, I felt that even the Pan Mee was very soft, fresh and tasty. My rating for this shall be 9/10. Definitely way better than any other Soup Pan Mee that I have tasted in Kuala Lumpur.

Ice Kacang
Though the Ice Kacang looks like it comes with only shaved ice and palm sugar, beneath there is a lot mere that is not visible here. But, I personally felt that the Ice Kacang from I Love Broga Stall was way better. This was nice but not great and they were quite stingy with the palm sugar. My rating for this shall be 7/10.

This place has become so famous so much so people who visit Broga will make a mandatory stop here to taste the Pan Mee and ABC. For me, the Soup Pan Mee was awesome. But if you're looking for the real Hakka Pan Mee, I would recommend the stall opposite this one. Similarly, I felt that the less famous stall across the road does some better Ice Kacang. Overall, a good place to visit but the stall opposite them is surely better.

Broga Recreational Fishing Park @ Broga, Selangor

Day before yesterday, I did mention that the town of Broga is a hidden gem for cheap and delicious Chinese seafood  and here's the first entry showcasing one of those very famous restaurants in Broga. It would be very difficult for me to give you a precise address for this place or for you to even use Waze to locate this place as after a certain point, there's no cellphone reception. So you'd have to follow the old school way in order to reach this place. Firstly, set your destination at University of Nottingham on your GPS and get yourself there. Once you come to Nottingham, keep driving straight all the way. Even if it seems like you're in the middle of nowhere, just keep driving straight and you'd come to the town of Broga. From here, continue straight and you'd see a lot of seafood restaurants on both sides of the road. Once you come to an intersection which marks the border of Selangor - Negeri Sembilan, naturally the road will turn right but you keep driving straight. There would be the famous Dato Sak Chinese Temple with a small lane on the left which says road closes at 7 pm. Take that road and keep going straight. At this point, you'd loose hand phone signals but don't worry. Shortly, you would once again see lots of huge Chinese farm like restaurants on both sides. Keep going straight till the last restaurant which is this Broga Recreational Fishing Park which would be on your left.

The Restaurant In A Farm

A Simple Shack

Grilled Using Conventional Methods
Once inside, you would need to drive along that pond and would come to the car park area in a short while. Don't be surprised if you see Singapore registered vehicles. This place is so famous that it draws customers from afar. It is just a simple place that offers delicious food at very reasonable prices. You might wonder how all of these restaurants survive when their signature item of this town is grilled fish. The truth is that each one of these restaurants have their own signature Grilled Fish recipe and that is how they keep everyone's business going. This place has a lovely view with Broga Hills dominating the scene. Grilling is done the conventional way whereby the fish is wrapped in aluminium foils and placed on these railings. The family running this farm restaurant is very friendly and if you have any clarification, they would be more than happy to assist.

Their menu is definitely limited in terms of variety. As I said, you won't get all that you get in city restaurants as they only sell their signature dishes. For us, this seemed more than enough as we were looking for something different. Besides fish, the also have saltwater prawns, mutton and a handful of vegetables.

Mixed Vegetables @ RM 12.00
This was one awesome dish that all of us fell in love with. It had a mix of Okra and Brinjals and it was steamed in some sauces. Despite it being a simple dish, it tasted so good. The vegetables were crispy and sweet and it was so addictive. My rating for this shall be 10/10.

Prawns With Rice Wine & Ginger @ RM 45.00
These are fresh salt water prawns and not those farmed ones. This Prawns with rice wine and ginger were awesome and they were very reasonably priced at RM 45.00 . The prawns were so sweet in taste and the mix of rice wine and ginger brought a lovely blend of flavours. An excellent one to try and I would rate this at 9/10. Compared to the Tomyam Prawns that we tried the last time, this one was better.

Teochew Style Fish with Spicy Soy Bean Paste @ RM 23.00
I have been here before and tried their other Signature Fish as well but for me, this Teochew Style was much better. This huge fish was grilled with Tauchu and  chilies and served with some Okra. If you're one who loves very spicy food, then go for their extra spicy, but please do note that it can be very spicy for some. In my opinion, this was just heavenly and we ended up literally scooping and drinking the base sauce once we were done with the fish. This definitely deserves a 10/10.

Dry Chilli Mutton @ RM 16.00
The last trip here, we tried their Curry Mutton and so this time, we decided to try another style of preparation and went for this Dry Chili Mutton. They were very generous with the ingredients and I loved the mutton. It was so tender, as if it was cooked using a pressure cooker and most of the fat had melted leaving only the lean meat. The blend of ingredients were great and we loved this dish. My rating for this shall be 8/10.

Fancy dining in the farm with freshly caught seafood cooked according to their signature styles? Then this would be a fantastic place for you to visit. Despite being in Broga which is a 'Grilled Fish' heaven, it's not too far a drive from Kuala Lumpur. Prices are ridiculously cheap and the food is heavenly. If you have not been here yet, then it's totally worth the drive and experience. A place that I would highly recommend.

Broga Coconut Shake @ Broga, Selangor

Broga is a small town that is located off Semenyih, Selangor and it also happens to be the border town into Negeri Sembilan. That being said, half if this town sits on Selangor and another half sits on Lenggeng, Negeri Sembilan. Though this is one of those small towns, this place becomes buzzing with outsiders over the weekends and long holidays, even to the extent of having lots of visitors from Singapore for it's Chinese seafood. In a town with just a few thousand population, you would be surprised to learn that there are more than 30 Chinese Seafood restaurants here. There's one dish that makes this town very famous and that's their Grilled Fish but the great thing is that each restaurant has their own signature style of preparation and the food is very cheap. We shall get to this more when I post my next entry on Broga and for now let me speak of another stall that is very famous here and a must try when you're in Broga.

The Moment You Enter Broga, You Would See This Stall

Crowded Most Of The Time

Busy Preparing The Drinks

Simple Set Up
The moment you enter into Broga town, you would be able to see this humble stall on your left, not too far from the main entrance. Despite being just a humble stall, it has become almost mandatory for most visitors who come to Broga to do a pit stop here. Their main top sellers are their Coconut Shake and Pineapple Shake. This place is run by a young Chinese couple who are very friendly with customers. They are open Tusdays to Sundays, from 11 am till 6 pm.

Coconut Shake With Ice Cream @ RM 5.00
Coconut Shake and Pineapple Shake are the signature drinks here and a must try when you're in Broga. Priced at just RM 5.00 , they are made from real fruits and is free from preservatives. The major difference between this one and the famous Klebang Coconut Shake is that they do not blend the drink with ice cream. Instead, it's topped with ice cream and that gives it a totally different taste. Very authentic flavours and it's so refreshing and my rating for this shall be 9/10. A must try drink when you visit Broga.

Tian Yen Village Corner Restaurant @ Broga, Selangor

Having been impressed with the food that we have tried this far in Broga, this evening we made another trip to try out another restaurant that is quite famous here. This restaurant is also located along the same Old Broga Road. For directions, it would be best to refer to my post from yesterday as I have given very detailed directions to this place. This restaurant is neighbouring the restaurant that we visited yesterday and so it would be easy to locate. Once again, please be informed that no GPS works there and so you would need to navigate the old way by following the instructions that I have shared yesterday.

Tian Yen Village Corner Restaurant in Broga

Good To See Some Tamil Wording

The Restaurant Is In A Huge Piece of Privately Owned Farm Land

Pond Surrounded By Durian Trees

Lots Of Parking Space

Interior Of The Restaurant

Stage Available For Private Functions
Compared to the one that we visited yesterday which was pretty much a shack like looking place, this restaurant is a little more posh and sits in the middle of a huge privately owned farm. The landscape is simply amazing and since it is located on elevated hilly terrain, you tend to get a nice cool breeze.

As mentioned before in some earlier blog entries, each restaurant in Broga has their own Signature Fish dish and they keep their offering simple so that they do not compete with each other. However, this restaurant has got a slightly better offering in terms of variety and their Signature fish dishes here are the Claypot Fish and Nyonya Style Fish.

Herbal Tea @ RM 3.00 each
This Leong Sui is a must try here. It is made by them and kept refrigerated. If you look into their fridge, you'd be able to see hundreds of these. Slightly pricey at RM 3.00 each but it was so good. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

Kam Heong Clams @ RM 20.00
Their Kam Heong Clams were excellent. Huge clams were used and they were very generous with the ingredients. They had also added some diced onions and dried shrimps and that gave it a delicious crunch as well. Not too spicy and it was wonderful. A dish that I would recommend to have here and my rating for this shall me 9/10.

Nyonya Style Fish @ RM 32.00
This has got to be the best Nyonya Style Fish that I have tasted. The fish had been deep fried to a crisp and the sauce was just perfect. Tangy, sour, spicy and it was a burst of flavours with each bite. If you're one who loves this style of preparation, then you have got to give these guys a try. Heavenly! My rating for this shall be 10/10.

Long Beans Fried With Salted Egg @ RM 18.00
This was so addictive. The salted egg batter was crispy and moist and the long beans was so crunchy. A simple dish that tasted so good and it was very satisfying. Once again, this would be the best that I have tasted so far for this style of preparation. 10/10 for this too!

Each restaurant in Broga has their own signature fish dish and for this restaurant, it's their Nyonya Style Fish. This dish was heavenly and had a wonderful blend of flavours. For this style of preparation, this has got to be the best that I have tasted. Even their Long Beans Fried with Salted Egg was very good and again, the best that I have tasted. Not to forget their Kam Heong Clams which again was a very good preparation. Overall, good food and reasonable prices. Lovely ambiance too.
