Nasi Ayam Penyet Ambia @ Tanjung Malim, Perak

If I said that there was a restaurant that had only one dish on it's menu, I guess most people would not believe it. And here is one such restaurant that had recently opened an outlet in Tanjung Malim. A chain of restaurants that has been around for some time now and they specialise in Ayam Penyet, a staple Indonesian dish that requires no introduction to fellow Malaysians. I believe most of their other restaurants are in the state of Pahang except for the second last one that was opened in Slim River and this one in Tanjung Malim. The owner/ recipe chef is one that has been showcased numerous times on different programs in TV3.

The Restaurant Along Jalan Douglas, Tanjung Malim

Standard Design Across All Their Outlets

Clean And Simple
This restaurant is located along Jalan Douglas, Tanjung Malim which is the same row as AmBank and Pizza Hut. They open daily from 11 am till 10 pm. A simple concept but they have kept the place looking very clean and tidy. As mentioned earlier, it is only a single dish that is offered here and along with a drink, it is priced at RM 5.00 . One that is very much wallet friendly and attracts huge student crowd as well as families. Since they target market have been students, it was very thoughtful of them to have provided plug points at each table that is along the wall. This is provided without additional charges for students who wish to have discussions over lunch and specifically for those who are using their laptops. A very thoughtful concept and this alone can make them a winner. The place is mostly crowded for lunch and come dinner, there is a decent crowd as well.

Ayam Penyet Set + Drink @ RM 5.00

Teh O Ice
Ordering is simple. Just take a seat and mention the number of sets and in a matter of minutes, the food would be sent over. Staffs are quite efficient in that sense. The set comes with a plate of white rice, a huge piece of Ayam Penyet (smashed chicken) topped with spiced fried grated coconut, a slice of tempe, a bowl of delicious soup and their potent Sambal Hijau which is truly the most addictive thing here. And not to forget, a glass of Iced Tea. Yes, this is the only drink that is served here. For the price of RM 5.00 , I think that this is a pretty good deal.

Rice, Sambal Hijau and Soup

Sambal Hijau
I believe most people come here for this Sambal Hijau. Truly it is exceptionally good and a taste to remember. This small portion is good for a plate of white rice. Not really too spicy, but the blend is just so addictive. I wouldn't mind having plain rice with just this. That in itself would make a delicious and satisfying meal for me. This, I would rate at 10/10 .

Soup
I just love their soup. It is mildly sour and filled with spices and pepper that gives it such a unique blend of taste that hits your palate with all the right notes. Another excellent preparation that I was literally drinking it clean. I would rate this at 10/10 .

Fried Chicken Topped With Spiced and Fried Grated Coconut

A Slice Of Tempe and some Fresh Cabbage
The Fried Chicken was good. Marinated with spices, deep fried, chopped and topped with some spiced and fried grated coconut. Taste wise, it is different. Not the usual Malaysian flavours and it brings back memories from my travels in Indonesia. The chunk is also a larger one than we usually get at the standard Indian Muslim restaurants. I would rate their Chicken at 8/10 . They also proved a small piece of Tempe which again is coated with spices and salt and deep fried. This is again one of my favourites and I love the way the prepare it. This I would rate at 8.5/10 .

Overall, for the price of RM 5.00 , one is able to have a good meal and that too a satisfying meal. I would be providing the link to their Facebook page below. Do check it out and the testimonials speaks volumes. Personally, I loved it and would definitely recommend this restaurant.
