Krishna Curry House @ Jalan SS9A/19, Petaling Jaya

Krishna Curry House is a long standing brand name known for good South Indian food in Petaling Jaya. Having been located for the past 25 years along Jalan 222, they have recently relocated their restaurant to Jalan SS9A/19 . Many times I had driven to Jalan 222 only to find that their restaurant had been closed with no sign explaining where they had moved. It was only recently that I picked up their new location from their blog post. This new outlet is not far from where there were previously. In order to get here, if you are coming from the Federal Highway north bound, do take the exit at the MOX (Malaysian Oxygen) and Cycle & Carriage intersection and turn left again at the traffic lights. Just at this turn, you would be able to see a small sign on your left directing you to the new Krishna Curry House outlet. From here, just head straight for another 50 meters and you would be able to see the restaurant on your left.

I remember reading somewhere that they were forced to move as the landlord had increased the rental to an exorbitant level. This new outlet seems to be more organised and is much more spacious compared to the previous one and can seat at least 200 pax at any point in time.

Teh O Ice @ RM 1.70
Their Teh O'Ais was very well prepared. Initially they had made a mistake by bringing over a Teh Ais and when I corrected them, without a fuss they quickly replaced it. I would rate their Tea at 9.5/10 . Usually I would head over to the curries counter to see what they have but since I am so familiar with the food here, I just ordered from the table itself.

Basic Banana Leaf Meal @ RM 6.00
Their basic Banana Leaf Meal comes with white rice, three vegetables, Papadam, pickles and a glass of Rasam. I felt that their vegetables were very ordinary and they should have increased it to either more variety or for them to have better vegetables. Assuming I was a vegetarian, then my choices were limited to only the above. I even asked if they had Tauhu Sambal and the waiter mentioned that they did not have it for that day. As for the basic set, I would only rate it at 5/10 . The vegetables surely did not impress me!

Tamil Style Cabbage
The cabbage was cooked according to the Tamil style today but it was just average. Nothing great as far as the taste goes. I would rate this at 5/10 .

Pumpkin Koottu
This was slightly better as there were more flavours in this preparation. Still, not too impressive. I would rate this at 6.5/10 .

Cucumber Acar and Papadam
Their Cucumber Acar was quite bad. The cucumber itself was not fresh and it was overcooked. I would only rate this at 4/10 .

Rasam
Their Rasam was also just above average. It lacked certain ingredients thus giving it a very ordinary taste. I have surely tasted much better Rasam elsewhere. I would rate their Rasam at 5.5/10 .

Claypot Mutton @ RM 10.00

Claypot Mutton @ RM 10.00
This is my all time favourite at this restaurant. Without fail, I must order this dish every time I come here and today too, this dish was simply fantastic. The red thick gravy was heavenly spiced along with a mixture of mutton chunks and bones, made this dish a heavenly treat. I am yet to see a restaurant that prepares this dish better. As always, this dish scores a perfect 10/10 . A must try dish!!!

Fried Cuttlefish @ RM 20.00

Fried Cuttlefish @ RM 20.00
The cuttlefish is chosen at their seafood counter. The price is based on the size of the meat cut. We choose a reasonably large one and it was priced at RM 20.00 . The preparation was fantastic. Loved the way it was fried to a crisp. The spices and batter used to coat was also perfect. Definitely one of the best fried cuttlefish preparations in the Klang Valley. I would rate this at 9.6/10 .

Fried Tenggiri Fish @ RM 6.00

Fried Tenggiri Fish @ RM 6.00
Their Fried Tenggiri Fish was another wonderfully done dish. It was served hot and the marination was simply superb. I have tried the Fried Tenggiri Fish in a number of famous restaurants around the Klang Valley and this place always serves the best. The fish was very fresh, the spices were perfect and it was fried to perfection. Absolutely flawless!!! I would rate this at 10/10 . As a point of note, the price of the Tenggiri Fish has gone up by RM 1 since last year. Preciously it used to be RM 5 each and now it's RM 6 each. Still, it is a price worth paying for.

Order Chit

From years of dining at this restaurant, I had observed that they always score badly at their vegetarian dishes but score extremely well with their non vegetarian dishes. And when I say years, it means at least for the last 19 years now. If you are a vegetarian, then I would not recommend this restaurant but if you are someone who loves meat be it mutton, chicken, crab, fish etc, then this is the place for you to have a royal feast. The food would definitely not disappoint you and in fact, you would surely have over eaten by the time you were done with the food. I have also seen many reviews that claim that the prices here are expensive but I do not find that so. For example, the above Claypot Mutton is priced at RM 10 but hey, if you were a moderate eater, that could be shared by two. For me, I am willing to pay for good food then to pay minimal for food with compromised quality just because they are trying to keep the prices low. I guess, it is a matter of choice between filling the stomach and treating your taste buds.

Restaurant Namaste Indian Cuisine @ Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur

Namaste Indian Cuisine has been around in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail since the year 2007. Previously they were located at the corner unit along the same row of shops where Table Talk is presently located. They moved to this present location sometime in 2013. I have been to this restaurant a number of times now, each time trying a new dish and this is the third of my blogs on this restaurant. For those that have been following me, you would notice that we had gone there just last week. My brother liked the food and he suggested that we go there again today for lunch.

Interior of the Restaurant
The decoration in this restaurant is simple and it does not have the usually seen Indian art on it's walls that is commonly found in most high end Indian restaurants. Nevertheless, the design is modern yet simple and is comfortable and clean. The kitchen is manned by chefs from India and the floor is manned by two Indian guys. Thank God that the rude Filipino waitress is no longer here and hence customers would have a better dining experience.

The Menu
Their menu has a wide range of offerings from all parts of India, both north and south. It also offers a decent amount of vegetarian dishes to cater for vegetarians. The price of the dishes are quite reasonable compared to other Indian restaurants in town. This time, we would be trying more of their dishes with bread but do note that their Briyani's are quite good too, especially their Hyderabad Briyani. Another very important advice that I would like to share here is that do be prepared to wait as it takes them on average one hour from time of order to serve the dishes and this would be the case even if you are the sole customer around. It happens all the time and so just be prepared.

Iced Water On The House

Bru Coffee @ RM 5.50
Usually they would serve us with Papadam and Mint Sauce but today is the first time that they had forgotten to serve it. Must be due to them being short staffed today. I even observed the owner at the premises trying to ring some workers and asking for temporary help. Anyway, I understand their situation today and did not make a fuss about the service. Since I liked their Bro Coffee from my tasting last week, I ordered the same today too. I would once again rate this at 9.5/10 .

Chapati @ RM 3.50

Chapati @ RM 3.50
We wanted to order Naan but they didn't have it. So we went for the above Chapatis. A set of two Chapatis is priced at RM 3.50 . The Chapatis were good and soft but very small. For the size, it was definitely overpriced. Taste wise, I would rate it at 8.4/10 .

Yellow Dhall @ RM 8.90

Yellow Dhall @ RM 8.90
As for this dish, the portion size compared to the price paid was very satisfying. The dish too was very well prepared. The Yellow Dhall was at the right level of thickness and had a load of spices in it and went well with the bread. I would rate the above at 8.5/10 .

Bhindi Fry @ RM 8.90

Bhindi Fry @ RM 8.90
The above dish was very good. The Lady's Finger was cooked with spices and care had been taken to ensure that the vegetable does not get overcooked. When served, it was still crispy. I have a strong feeling that curd had been used in this dish. A very good dish. I would rate this at 8.9/10 .

Kerala Fried Chicken @ RM 18.90

Kerala Fried Chicken @ RM 18.90
This dish was very unique. Small chicken cubes were steamed to make them tender and then fried with black pepper, cauliflower and onions. It was a very spicy yet aromatic dish. A must try for chicken lovers. I would rate this at 9/10 .

Deep Fried Mutton Meatballs @ RM 15.90

Deep Fried Mutton Meatballs @ RM 15.90
The Mutton Meat Balls were above average only. It lacked mutton and had more egg filling which was somewhat disappointing. I had definitely had hoped for the filling to be more meaty than just this. I would rate this dish at 7/10 only.

Namaste Special Crab Masala @ RM 35.00

Namaste Special Crab Masala @ RM 35.00

Namaste Special Crab Masala @ RM 35.00
This dish was absolutely fantastic. The Crab Masala was excellently prepared in a super spicy thick gravy that was literally finger licking good. The crabs were also well broken allowing the gravy to seep in. I have never tasted Crab Masala that is better than this. Definitely a highly recommended dish. I would rate this dish at a perfect 10/10 .

Overall, though we had to wait a long time for the food to arrive, the food was quite good except for just one or two dishes that were above average. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here today. This is definitely a restaurant that we would be patronising often.

Papadam & Mint Sauce

Papadam

Mint Sauce
Just like other Indian restaurants, the above is served while the dishes are being prepared and they are on the house. Even for this to arrive, it takes them about fifteen minutes but the good thing is that the Papadam's are freshly fried just before being served. Their Mint Sauce is one of the best in town and I would like to rate their Mint Sauce at 9/10. Definitely a well prepared dip.

Iced Water

Bru Coffee @ RM 5.50
Previously, I had tried their Masala Chai and it was really good. This time however, I wanted to try their Bru Coffee and this again was perfectly fixed. I would rate their coffee at 9.5/10 .

Hydrabad Chicken Briyani @ RM 19.90

Hydrabad Chicken Briyani @ RM 19.90

Hydrabad Chicken Briyani @ RM 19.90
Their Hydrebad Chicken Briyani came with a huge portion of Briyani Rice, a boiled egg and a piece of chicken with some gravy. The Briyani Rice was very good. I would rate the rice at 9/10 but the chicken was disappointing. It was merely a bone with literally no meat in it. Very disappointing! As a dish, I would only rate this at 6/10 .

Hydrabad Mutton Briyani @ RM 20.90

Hydrabad Mutton Briyani @ RM 20.90

Hydrabad Mutton Briyani @ RM 20.90
The Mutton Briyani however, was very good. It came with the same huge portion of rice, a boiled egg and a huge chunk of mutton with bone and there was so much meat to it. The gravy too was very much better, in fact it was very delicious compared to the chicken variation. This would definitely be a highly recommended dish and I would rate this at 9.5/10 .

Cucumber in Curd

Cucumber in Curd
With the Briyani, also comes the above Cucumber in curd. This again was a fantastic preparation. The curd was thick and the cucumber was very fresh making it a fantastic dish. I would rate this at 9/10 .

Gravy
This was not exactly Dhall but a mixture of gravies and it was superb! This again was provided free with the Briyani set. The gravy was so aromatic and wonderfully spiced. I would again rate this at 9/10 .

Masala Chicken

Masala Chicken
The Chicken Masala came in a thick peppery broth and it was a super spicy and delicious dish. Perfectly cooked with tender chicken chunks and potato's, the preparation would be something that stays in your mind for a long time. Another recommended dish here and I would rate this at 9.2/10 .

Overall, though we had to wait a long time for the food to arrive, the food was quite good except for just the chicken briyani which was above average. Otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal here today and would surely return to try out more dishes soon.
