Restoran OK Seafood @ Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur

Another famous Chinese Restaurant along Jalan Aminuddin Baki in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail is Restoran OK Seafood. This restaurant is located just two doors away from Restaurant Fatt Fatt which I had visited two days earlier.

Outdoor Seating Area
Similar to their neighbours, this restaurant has stalls operating during the day and by evening, they open up the main kitchen and Chinese dishes are sold. Being a corner unit, they have the advantage of having a huge outdoor seating area which is covered. I was surprised when I visited them tonight that most of the tables were being occupied by Indian families instead of the usual Chinese crowd. There were Chinese customers though, but not that many. Here they did not have a menu from which we could order and all ordering was done verbally, hence the uncertainty of price.

Coca Cola @ RM 2.20

Barley @ RM 1.50

The Cutlery
Unlike their neighbours, a can of Coca Cola here was priced 30 cents cheaper at RM 2.20 each. We also ordered a glass of Barley just like two days before. The Barley here was not conventionally prepared and it was the instant Barley powder. It was definitely not as good. I would rate their Barley at 6.5/10 .

Cantonese Style Fried Noodles @ RM 6.00

Cantonese Style Fried Noodles @ RM 6.00
The Cantonese Style Fried Noodles was quite nice. It was well prepared with just the right ingredients. For the price, the portion was satisfactory. I would rate the above noodles at 8/10 .

Hokkien Mee @ RM 6.00

Hokkien Mee @ RM 6.00
Besides the previously ordered noodles, we also ordered a plate of the above Hokkien Mee. Honestly, it was horrible. Both the noodles and the preparation was not up to the mark. The Mee was too starchy and hard and the preparation was bland. Definitely a let down. I would only rate this dish at 4/10 .

Vegetable Soup @ RM 8.00

Vegetable Soup @ RM 8.00
Their Vegetable Soup came with very minimal vegetables and meat. There was hardly anything much in it and taste wise, it was bad and filled with MSG. I would strongly not recommend this dish and if possible, avoid it here. This only deserves a rating of 3.5/10 .

Asam Fish @ RM 36.00

Asam Fish @ RM 36.00
Now, this dish was not bad. It was slightly on the spicy side but as the name might suggest, the dish was supposedly to be sour but it was nowhere close to that. For that size of fish, the price of RM 36.00 was just ridiculous and not acceptable. This was a rip off ! Taste wise and price aside, I would rate this dish at 5/10 .

In summary, we were neither impressed nor satisfied with our dinner today. The taste was below par, the price was ceiling high and the ingredients used was definitely very stingy. Definitely a restaurant that I would avoid at all costs and would extend the same advise to others out there.

  1. Sorry to hear about your experience. We used to eat there quite often, but they started putting MSG in everything! Also, my mum would be suspicious of the assam fish: she says fresh fish should always be steamed, because frying and assam sauce would cover up any hint of the fish not being fresh.
