John King @IOI City Mall, Putrajaya
Of late, there has been a number of new outlets opening up in Malaysia which specialise in these Japanese Cheese Tarts and another new player in the market is John King. I am not sure how long they have been in Malaysia but this is the first time that I am seeing their outlet in IOI City Mall.
The Outlet On The Lower Ground Floor
Unlike their competitors which limit their offering to just Cheese Tarts and Japanese Cheese Cakes, John King has expanded their offering to a range of other pastries as well and many of these have Chinese traces to them. For example those BBQ Chicken Siew Bao, Curry Chicken Pie etc is something that we do not commonly get in these kind of chains.
Not only are they reasonably priced, they also have a number of bundling offers which gives you a good discount, even when you go for an assorted selection. This kind of offering is something that would definitely be welcomed by many.
A Variety Of Tarts
I went for their Curry Chicken Pie, BBQ Chicken Pie, Baked Cheese Tart, Baked Cheese Salted Egg Tart, Cheese Lava Tart and Coconut Tart and these ranged from RM 2.60 each to RM 5.50 each. Prices are definitely much more reasonable than many of their competitors and they would surely win in terms of variety as well. Generally, their tarts were quite good and each had a very unique taste that is not comparable to the other. The only setback was their packaging which seemed a little flimsy to me. Otherwise, their tarts are surely one that I would recommend.
