Sizzlers @ Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur

Earlier today, I had to meet some friends in Damansara Heights and as it was already 7 pm, we decided to find a place for dinner. That is when I came across this restaurant called Sizzlers which is located right beside Peninsula Hotel in Damansara Heights. From the outside, the restaurant seems pretty posh. They even have free parking available for diners, otherwise one would have to pay a flat fee of RM 5.00 for parking.

Indoor Seating Area

Indoor Seating Area
The restaurant is very easy to sight and is clearly visible from Jalan Semantan heading up to Damansara Heights. Once we arrived here, we were greeted by the waiters and ushered to our table. This restaurant has both an indoor and outdoor seating area. The indoor area has a great design to it. The dim lighting and high back Roman chairs definitely gives a fine dining experience to this place. When we arrived, there were a few customers but it did not seem like the place was getting a great response.

The Menu

This is what we ordered

The Menu
The menu was quite extensive but mostly around Western Food and Pizzas. Most of their dishes comes in hot plates thus clarifying the restaurants name 'Sizzlers' .We decided to go for the Sizzling Combo for 2 set which includes a platter of various meats, soup and garlic bread. It did have some steak and we requested for it to be changed to Lamb which they accommodated. This dish is priced at RM 89.90 .

Hot Tea With Milk @ RM 3.50
This tea is very interesting. When I was there I could not see clearly as the lights were dim but when I came back and looked at the photo, I was deeply surprised. Could you see how dirty the cup is? I wonder if it was ever washed properly. Even the tea itself was quite bad. Considering both these factors i.e. taste and cleanliness, I would rate this at 0/10 . Absolutely unacceptable!!!

Iced Honey Lemon @ RM 4.50
Angie ordered the above Iced Honey Lemon drink. It was just so so only. I would rate this at 5/10 .

Garlic Bread
Now meal time. This Garlic Bread is part of the set and is included in the price. The Garlic Bread was above average and generally okay. The bread was not hard and the spread was decent. I would rate this at 7.5/10 .

Cream of Chicken Soup
This Cream of Chicken Soup was the soup of the day and it was extremely horrible. Very watery and you could not taste anything there except for an occasional chunk of chicken. This is by far the worst Chicken Soup I have had in my life. It does not even pass to be called Chicken Soup. It scores a horrible rating of 0/10 .

The Platter @ RM 89.90

Better Look At The Platter
This was the main dish and it came in a hot sizzling plate. It had two huge chunks of Lamb, 1 slice of Chicken Breast and a foot long Chicken Sausage. Besides this, there was also some baked potatoes, onions and carrots beneath the meat. They shared a common sauce which I could not identify what it was but it tasted nice. It was slightly on the sweet side but blended well with the dish. Firstly the lamb. It was above average. The good thing about the lamb was that the sizes were really thick and huge but with that said, it was a little undercooked. I would rate the lamb at 7.5/10 .The Chicken was perfect. In fact it was really good. Soft, tender and juicy is what I would call it. I would rate the chicken at 9.5/10 . The sausage was nice too. I would rate the sausage at 8.5/10 . The vegetables went very well with the sauce provided. One area that can be improved here is to grill the meat with the sauce and not pour the sauce in front of the customer just before being served. By doing this, the sauces can be absorbed better into the meat specifically the lamb. Overall a great dish.

On the whole, this place does serve good food but I cannot tolerate the tea cup cleanliness and the chicken soup. Both of those deserve to be poured down the drains. However, the grilled items were good. The staffs attentiveness and service levels were also good. The place had a great ambiance to it. If only those few areas can be corrected, I am sure that this place would pick up. I do not think the price is expensive and in fact it is acceptable specially for this area. I truly hope that someone from the management reads this entry and makes sure that those mistakes are not repeated. Our bill today came to RM 96.90 .

Restaurant Laziz @ Solaris Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur

Today we were in the mood for some Arabic food and after some research, decided to head over to Restaurant Laziz which is located in Solaris Mont Kiara. There weren't many blogs on this restaurant but just their website and Facebook page to rely on. I then decided to check the place out myself and put up a blog on my findings there.

Restaurant Laziz in Solaris Mont Kiara
It is quite easy to locate this restaurant. In Solaris Mont Kiara, they are directly opposite Cold Storage along Jalan Solaris 5. Initially we wanted to drop by for lunch so I called up the number and was told that they were full house and we would have to wait a long time for a table. I then made a reservation for dinner. Well, if they were full house that means the food must surely be good.

Interior of the restaurant

Us at the restaurant

Lovely designs
We were there around 7.30 pm and it was just us and another family. Thus, we got immediate attention. The tables were already set when we arrived. I just loved the interior design of the restaurant. It was really beautiful, clean and well kept. There were three men manning the place and I suppose one of them was the owner himself. He personally attended to us and walked us through the menu. I liked the warm hospitality received here.

Peach Flavoured Non Alcoholic Beer @ RM 8.00

Raspberry Flavoured Non Alcoholic Beer @ RM 8.00

Angie and her Barbican

The Cutlery
We ordered a Barbican each for the drinks. Barbican is a Arab produced non alcoholic flavoured beer. I had Peach flavour and Angie had Raspberry flavour. It is priced at RM 8.00 each and is a pretty cool drink. We were introduced to this drink during my visit to Sam Hadramawt, which is another Arabic restaurant in Kelana Jaya which I have blogged about previously. If you have never tried this drink, you should give it a try.

Adas Lentil Soup @ RM 10.00
This was one of the starters we ordered. It was nice and something different. This is the first time I am trying this soup and I liked it. It was thick and tasted a little like baby food. Not spicy yet aromatic.  An interesting dish. I would rate this at 8.8/10 .

Arabic Salad @ RM 10.00
This Arabic Salad was basically Green Salad with Sumac Herbs. There was also quite a bit of black pepper in it which gave it a very sour and slightly spicy taste. Another interesting dish though it is something that we are not used to. I would rate this at 8/10 .

Lamb Kebab with Pita Bread @ RM 24.00

Pita Bread accompanying the above Lamb Kebab
We ended up ordering two mains and sharing them just to get to taste both dishes. The first to arrive was the Lamb Kebab. Priced at RM 24.00, this comes with a basket of Pita bread. The Lamb Kebab's were definitely one of the best that I have ever tried. Though being Lamb meat, it was tender and juicy. In most places it would be slightly on the hard side but it was extremely well done here. The Pita bread was also very good. I would strongly recommend this dish. My rating for this dish would be 10/10 .

Lamb Briyani @ RM 28.00

Closer Look At The Rice

Lamb Extremely Well Done

Gravy For The Briyani
The second main dish ordered was Lamb Briyani. This comes with a huge chunk of Lamb Meat and a plate of gravy. First the rice. This was high quality Basmathi Rice and it tasted excellent. You can just eat the rice on it's own. The Lamb was very well cooked and the meat was effortlessly detaching itself from the bone. It was also very well spiced and tasted extremely delicious. The gravy was more like lamb stew and it was heavenly. On the whole, I would rate this dish at 10/10 . An excellent dish for an Arabic Style Briyani.

Overall, we were very pleased with this place. The food is extremely delicious and reasonably priced. The service is efficient too. A highly recommended restaurant and it is best you call to reserve a place before heading there. There is also a map to this place just below this.

Cafe Berlin @ Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur

In the past, I have done an entry about this bakery which is located in 1 Mont Kiara Mall, Kuala Lumpur and a great thanks to all the readers out there as it is one of my top entries. To read the previous entry on this place, here is the link http://venoth.blogspot.com/2013/01/cafe-berlin-mont-kiara-kuala-lumpur.html . This time however, it was just a brief breakfast stop.

Cafe Berlin @ 1 Mont Kiara Mall

Interior of the Bakery

Lovely Design
As many of my blog readers may have already known, I work in this very building on the office block side which is attached to this mall. As I was in early today, I decided to have some breakfast and at that time, this is the only place that is open in this mall. It is great that they open at sharp 8 am every day to cater for the office goers in this building. I must say that this is one of my favourite bakeries for a number of reasons. Their staffs are friendly, great fresh breads, good quality food and decent prices. Customer service here comes a notch higher to the extent that if a particular bread that you asked for was not available, they would bake it for you in fifteen minutes. That is the level of customer satisfaction that they try to maintain here and due to that, they do have a high number of loyal customers. As for me today, I decided to try one of their simplest breakfast sets which is priced at RM 10.50 . I can's really remember now what the set is called but it is the very first item in their breakfast menu. Having placed and paid for my orders, I head back to my table to catch up on some emails as it takes a while for them to prepare the set.

Fresh Orange Juice
As mentioned previously, the admirable fact at this bakery is the quality of food served. This Orange Juice was excellent. Though not freshly squeezed, it was from one of the good brands out there in the market. I would rate this at 9/10 .

Butter, Jam and Honey
For the bread, they give you a little of Butter, Jam and Honey which again is great. Not many places, except in hotels where they serve you Honey with your bread.

Breakfast Set @ RM 10.50
This set came with two buns, one scrambled egg, the above seen Orange Juice and the spreads. For the price of RM 10.50, this set is surely worth it and keeps you full till lunch. The breads were extremely fresh and just to reiterate a fact that I have mentioned in my previous post, they actually bake their bread thrice a day and therefore no bread is carried forward to the next day. This is definitely a place that I would revisit anytime.

Zakuro 2 Japanese Cuisine @ The Scott Garden, Kuala Lumpur

I have heard a lot about this restaurant called Zakuro 2 but never really had the chance to visit it as for me, it is quite far. Located in Scott Garden, Old Klang Road , it is out of the way for me to head there and that has been the reason why the visit to this restaurant has been postponed numerous times. I am a usual customer to Zakuro which is in Plaza Mont Kiara but I do not know if this restaurant has any connection to that. Having said that, today was a day that we got the chance to head there for lunch.

Zakuro 2 in The Scott Garden, Old Klang Road

Interior of the restaurant

The Menu
The restaurant is located on the first floor of the complex and is quite easily accessible from the car park without heading into the mall. It just occupies a small space and yet has two private rooms. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by one of the waitress. It seems that besides the boss, everyone else is Malaysian here but they know the names of the dishes by heart. Thats very impressive. The kitchen workers were mostly Malay's too. Do note that they do not serve pork at this restaurant. Mostly they were having set meals throughout their menu with some stand alone dishes. We were accompanied by the waitress as we went through the menu and she assisted as and when required as I have become somewhat familiar with Japanese food now.

Green Tea @ RM 2.00
As for the drinks, we decided to stick with Green Tea as this is the best drink to get at any Japanese restaurants. Here, they were chargeable at RM 2.00 per person.

Edamame @ RM 6.00
As one of the starters I ordered the above Edamame. Angie has never tried this and I wanted her to try it at least today. At RM 6.00 , it was decently priced and the portion was reasonable. Being lightly salted, it went well with the green tea while we were waiting for the other dishes to arrive. I would rate this at 9/10 .

Salmon Sushi & Tobiko Sushi @ RM 12.00
As an additional starters, we ordered the above Sushi combination. They have a number of combinations for you to choose from and I just went with these. I would say that their Sushi was really good and fresh. They would definitely score 9/10 on my radar.

Gyuza @ RM 15.00
Their Gyuza was again another well prepared dish. Though the sizes were not consistent, the filling tasted very good and the dip sauce was also excellent. I would rate this at 9/10 .

Tempura Udon Set @ RM 22.00

Tempura Udon Set @ RM 22.00

Fruits Part of the Set
Angie ordered the Tempura Udon set which comes with the bowl of noodles, Tempura and fruits. The Tempura was decent though not the best one I have tried but the noodles were just average. We were a little disappointed with this dish. With just slight changes, this dish can be easily perfected. However, I would give an overall rating of only 6/10 for this set.

Shake Teriyaki Set @ RM 25.00

Shake Teriyaki Set @ RM 25.00

Chawanmushi Part Of The Set

Miso Soup...part of the set
I ordered the Shake Teriyaki set which came at a price of RM 25.00 . Compared to what Angie ordered, this seemed of a better value deal to me as there were more items included in the set. Firstly the Shake Teriyaki itself. This was very well done. The Chawanmushi and Miso Soup also were well done. Overall for this set, I would rate it at 9/10 . Now after trying their rice and noodles, I think their rice sets here are of better value and taste.
