Tange Restaurant & Cafe @ Damansara Perdana, Petaling Jaya

Tange Restaurant and Cafe is located in Metropolitan Square, Damansara Perdana. I believe that they may have recently changed their name to the present name from Kafe Tangerine Living. I was in the vicinity when I stumbled upon this place and as it was close to dinner time, we decided to have dinner here. It is located right beside Citibank and is clearly visible from the main trunk road of Damansara Perdana. If you are driving, there is a paid parking space right in front of this restaurant which does not cost much for short duration parking.

Outdoor Seating Space

Indoor Dining Area
This restaurant has a small space for outdoor dining and a reasonably large space for indoor dining. The design is also very nice and cosy. With the present haze condition, I definitely prefer to be seated inside. All their staffs were foreigners but they spoke decent English and were quite efficient in the service. I did see some comments on Foursquare complaining about the slow service but we did not face such a situation today and I honestly felt that the service was good.

The Menu
The above photographs cover their entire menu except for their lunch and dinner sets meals. They did have some value for money deals which were mostly priced at around RM 10.90 . We preferred to go Ala Carte. They definitely have a great range of offering and the prices seemed very reasonable to me. Just waiting to see the portion sizes. We decided on the dishes and passed our orders on to the waitress.

Honey Lemon @ RM 4.90
Angie ordered the above Honey Lemon drink. I must admit that the service here was really fast and we started receiving our orders in no time. Back to this drink, it was pretty good. There were loads of honey in it and definitely worth the price. I would rate this drink at 9/10 .

Coca Cola @ RM 3.50
I ordered the above Coca Cola and for a Cafe, the price paid seemed reasonable to me.

Tomato Soup @ RM 6.00
The daily soup is prepared on rotation and today, it was the above Tomato Soup. In my opinion, the soup was really good. It was thick, pure and delicious. A highly recommended starter here. I would rate the above soup at 9.5/10 .

Sauteed Sausage with Onions @ RM 7.90
This was another excellent dish. It was on the spicy side, must be contributed by the black pepper that was added into the dish but the dish was really nice. The only negative point here is the volume of sausages. I feel that for the price, there should have been  much more. Yet, based on the taste, I will still rate this dish at 9.2/10 .

Arrabiatta Penne @ RM 10.00
A lovely Pasta this was. At RM 10.00, the portion size was very decent. This dish is a mixture of Fresh Tomato Sauce, Sweet Basil and Penne. Very well done and we thoroughly enjoyed this dish. I would rate this at 8.8/10 .

Black Pepper Lamb Chop @ RM 18.00

Sauteed Mushrooms

Two Large Chunks of Meat
The Black Pepper Lamb Chop was huge. For RM 18.00, the dish was very satisfying as it came with two huge chunks of lamb, sauteed mushrooms & carrots, Salad and Potato Wedges. There was a lavish amount of black pepper sauce and the meat was nicely done. I feel it could have been better if the meat was marinated a little longer but still it was nice. I have never seen a Lamb Chop of this size, at this price in the Klang Valley. Truly a value for money dish. I would rate this dish at 8.3/10 . The slightly lower rating is mainly contributed by the meat not being sufficiently marinated and with slight improvements including adding some honey in it, would greatly improve this dish.

Grilled Chicken Chop @ RM 15.00
This dish was also very nice. It came with a large piece of Grilled Chicken, lavish amount of mushroom sauce, some crinkle cut fries and salad. The dish was very well prepared, nicely grilled and the mushroom sauce was nice. The fries may have been slightly over fried but that's negligible. At RM 15.00, this is definitely a good choice. I would rate this dish at 9/10 .

Overall, we were truly satisfied with this restaurant. I found their service to be good, food to be great and price definitely very attractive. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.

A Minor Place Cafe & Bistro @ Plaza Damas, Kuala Lumpur

A Minor Place is a cafe that is located in Plaza Damas, Kuala Lumpur. Earlier today, my brother and I decided to meet up for dinner in Mont Kiara and we wanted to try someplace new. It was then that we decided to head over to Plaza Damas that is located in Sri Hartamas in search of a place to have our dinner. It was just coincidence that we came here as we only got a parking bay quite close to this shop. The place seemed pretty decent to us and it was a decision made at the spur of the moment.

A Minor Place in Plaza Damas

Buffet Lunch Promotion

Interior of the Restaurant
The restaurant was rather small but it was cute. It had a larger outdoor dining space and a small indoor dining area. We were rather early for dinner and when we arrived here this evening, there was just another customer at this restaurant. We were greeted by the owner himself and the waiters too were very friendly. The gentleman in the above photo wearing a yellow shirt is the owner. One thing that I liked about him was that he was very friendly to all customers that walked in this evening and he even extended his advise on the signature dishes at this restaurant. It is through him that I learned that they also do offer Lunch Buffet at a very reasonable price of RM 9.50 per person.  I think that that is a very good deal especially to those working around this area.

The Menu

The Menu

The Menu
Their menu seemed to have a great array of dishes covering Chinese, Western and Italian cuisines and their specialty seemed to be around Pork based dishes. Their price also seemed quite decent to me. For the location, I think it was rather cheap. The owner suggested us to try their Pork Chops and I was told that the portion is rather huge and would be good to be shared between two people but being a Bak Kut Teh lover and having sighted Bak Kuh Teh in their menu, I wanted to go for that instead. I was also told by some friends that their Pork Burgers are really good but this is yet to be verified by me.

Coca Cola @ RM 4.50

Carrot Juice @ RM 7.00
This place offers a good selection of beers and wines but we decided to go for some soft drinks. I went for a Coca Cola and my brother went for some Carrot Juice. At RM 7.00, their Carrot Juice was quite nice and I would rate it at 8/10 .

Plain Rice Accompanying The Bak Kut Teh

Bak Kut Teh @ RM 18.50
Their Bak Kut Teh was really interesting. It came with large chunks of Pork Ribs, Abalone Slices, baby Yau Mak and Tau Fu Pok.Unlike the usual sliced Pork, here you get four huge chunks of Pork Ribs loaded with meat in each bowl which was really great. Having abalone in the dish was another bonus. Their broth was on the light side but it was well flavoured. Definitely a unique offering found here only as I have never seen abalone in any other Bak Kut Teh places that I have tried. Overall, the dish was really nice and for the price of RM 18.50, I find it to be worth it. I would rate this dish at 8.5/10 . Definitely a recommended dish to all Bak Kut Teh lovers out there.

AMP Fried Pork Belly @ RM 18.50
Their Fried Pork Belly was also quite nice. It was well flavoured with the right balance of spices and above all, it was fried to the right extend. In some places, we would find this dish to be overdone and as a result of that, the meat would end up being quite chewy but that was not the case here. Every bite was really good and we ended up having this dish just like that without the need for any additional Chili Sauce. I would rate this dish at 8.8/10 .

On the whole, I would say that this little cafe does have quite a lot to offer. They serve some great dishes, the environment is nice, service is good and the price is reasonable. A single trip here would not reveal all their great culinary secrets as I believe that it would take a number of visits for me at least, to experience the best they have to offer. Definitely, a highly recommended place for Pork lovers!!!

Modesto's Tapis Rouge @ Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya

Modesto's Tapis Rouge is the most recent of Modesto's outlets and it is located at the Red Carpet Avenue, Encorp Strand,  Kota Damansarara. This particular outlet was previously known as Tapis Rouge and was recently re-branded as Modesto's Tapis Rouge. I am not very sure on the background history of this outlet but I know that Tiara Jacquelina is one of the joint owners. We were here tonight and the entire place was pretty empty and I am not sure why.

Interior of the Restaurant
This restaurant cum bar was a corner unit and that gave them a great advantage of having a huge dining area. This covers both the indoor and outdoor dining areas. Unfortunately, we were the only ones in this outlet tonight and we got the fullest attention of everyone. This restaurant does not serve pork on their menu but they do offer alcoholic beverages. The dining area was really beautiful and it is clear that loads of money had been invested here. We were then attended to by one of the waitresses and she handed the menu over to us.

The Menu

The Menu
For a bar cum restaurant, they had quite a decent offering. It covered mostly Western, Italian, French and Mediterranean cuisines. We were in the mood for some Pizza's tonight and hence we went for those. In their list of Pizza offerings, they had a total of nineteen different pizza's. Very comprehensive I would say.

Chips on the House
While we were deciding on the menu, they served the above Chips with Sambal and it was completely on the house. I could not identify the type of chips but it was decently good. The Sambal had a touch of sweetness and spiciness to it and it was nice.

Coca Cola @ RM 7.00

Sprite @ RM 7.00
Though being in a bar, I was not in the mood for a beer and decided to just stick to soft drinks. Both the above drinks came at RM 7.00 each.

Bruciaculo Pizza @ RM 28.00

Closer Look At The Pizza
The Bruciaculo Pizza is a thin crust Pizza that comes with Tomato's, Mozzarella Cheese, Garlic, Chilies and Anchovies. This Pizza was really good and I actually made a mistake of ordering two pizza's. This alone would have been enough for two. The taste was really good, I mean much better that other Pizza chains out there. There were an abundant amount of Anchovies and Cheese. The Chilies too were very spicy and they must have been pretty fresh to be able to emanate such spiciness.  I thoroughly enjoyed this Pizza and would rate this at a perfect 10/10 . A good Pizza!!!

Hawaiana Pizza @ RM 31.00

Closer Look at the Pizza

If the previous one was my favourite, this one was Angie's favourite. Priced at RM 31.00, this comes with a whole load of Tomato's, Mozzarella Cheese, Turkey Ham, Pineapples and Onions. It came with a lavish amount of the ingredients and was fairly good though I personally felt that the previous was much better than the latter, though that could be a matter of personal preference. Thats the good thing about taste, whats good to me may be bad to another and based on my taste buds, I would rate this at 8/10 .This rating does not mean that this Pizza is bad, it just means that I did not enjoy it as much as the previous one.

Overall, it was a good dining experience for us tonight. The food was great, priced reasonably and the service was overwhelming. That could be contributed by the fact that we were the only customers around but I don't care. I just report back based on my experience and I would like to say to the team to keep up their hard work and the rewards would surely come in soon.  The only setback that I found tonight was them having an electrician in the restaurant to fix things when it was open for business. Though the noise was minimal, it was still distracting at times. At times, it felt like I was seated in a construction site but the gravity of that interruption was not great. Overall, we were happy with the service provided here and would definitely be a recurring customer.

Alor Corner Curry Noodle @ Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur

Jalan Alor in Bukit Bintang may not be someplace strange to most KL'ites but sadly this is the first time that I am here today and that too by chance. Though I have worked in Bukit Bintang for more than a year, I have always kept it strictly to work as I hate the traffic jam here. But having had a meeting here today right opposite Jalan Alor and having used a taxi to commute in and out, I was fortunate that I had not got to worry about the traffic problem. This is when I discovered a whole street full of eateries. This entry is not about the entire street but about a particular stall that I have tried and would like to endorse here for their great food.

Alor Corner Curry Noodles @ Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur

Everyone Seats In Open Space
The set up is very simple. just order your food and head over to one of the vacant tables which were placed on the pavements. This place seems to be quite famous with both locals and tourists as well and with that, you can expect some waiting time before being able to get a table. This stall mainly offers a number of Noodle dishes. They are Curry Mee, Assam Laksa, Dry Noodles, Chicken Slices and Prawn Noodles, Prawn Mee and Meatballs / Fish Balls Soup. Many of these dishes are favourites of mine but since I am alone today, there is just a limit as to what I could eat and so, I decided to try the Curry Mee first.

Chili Paste for the Curry Mee

Curry Mee @ RM 6.00
All the dishes here cost RM 6.00 per plate unless you have requested for some add on items. What you see above is the standard Curry Mee. This in itself comes with sliced chicken, cockles, tofu and some brinjals. The curry itself is very thick, laden with spices and it was not on the spicy side.  The red colour of the broth is contributed by the lack of coconut milk which is good as it is much healthier. The taste was extremely delicious and this is one of the best curry mee's in town. The Chili Paste that is provided is another excellent preparation. At some point, I was just having the plain chili paste as it was really good. I would rate this Curry Mee at 9.8/10 .

Fish and Meat Balls @ RM 0.70 Each
I also wanted to try some of their Meatballs and Fish Balls and hence I ordered a small portion of the above. Their soup was just average but the Meatballs and Fish Balls were really great. The Meatballs here are made from Pork. Both were fresh and absolutely good. Definitely recommended here. I would rate their Fish Balls at 8.8/10 and Meatballs at 9.3/10 .

Definitely a fantastic place to get a good fix of your favourite noodle dish. I was told that they have been here now for more than 20 years.  It is best to come early as they may sell out fairly quickly. Locating this stall is quite easy. It is the very first stall along Jalan Alor facing the KL Baptist Church. I would surely be returning here soon to try the other dishes.
