Restoran Jayasri @ Kajang, Selangor

I visited Restoran Jayasri a couple of months back and was impressed with the food there. Since I was in the vicinity this afternoon, I decided to drop by for lunch. This restaurant is convenient since parking is never a hassle. There's ample of parking spaces right in front of this restaurant and both their vegetarian as well as non vegetarian food is good. Variety is impressive as well.

My Lunch
This afternoon, I decided not to go for their Banana Leaf Rice Meals since I had a heavy breakfast. Instead, I went for some rice, Thannichaar, Pumpkin Perattal and Chicken Varuval. If you enjoy a good Banana Leal Rice Meal, then I would suggest going for that as their spread is quite reasonably priced.

Thannichaar

Pumpkin Perattal
Thannichaar and Pumpkin Perattal are two of my favourites and seeing both of them this afternoon, I just could not resist. Both the items were perfect and I just could not find a flaw to comment on. My rating for both shall be 9/10.

Chicken Varuval
As for the meat item, I went for their Chicken Varuval. It did taste as good as it looks. The chunks were mostly meaty with very little bones. The Masala was just amazing. Not spicy and it was just nice. I would rate this at 8/10.

For good South Indian food on the Sungai Chua side of town, I would recommend Restoran Jayasri. Whether you're going for vegetarian or non vegetarian South Indian meal, this restaurant is a good choice. Not only did I find the food to be good, the staffs were very pleasant and they serve you with passion. Prices are very reasonable as well and the restaurant itself is very clean. Definitely a place that I would be visiting more often.

Restoran 72 @ Kajang, Selangor

Restoran 72 is a Chinese Restaurant that is located in Taman Berjaya, Kajang. This restaurant is inside a house and they are open daily from 5 pm till midnight. Unlike the other famous restaurants in Kajang, this restaurant is one that many locals go to and not many outside of Kajang have heard or been to this place.

The House Along Jalan Berjaya 10

Huge Dining Area

Easily Available Parking
Being a huge house with a rather large compound, they can accommodate a large crowd at any point in time. The staffs are very efficient and it's clearly a family owned business. Everything that you get in a standard Chinese restaurant, those would be available here too.

Deep Fried Squid @ RM 12.00

Sweet & Sour Pork @ RM 10.00
Their Deep Fried Squid was a dish that we all enjoyed. They were coated in a batter and deep fried to a beautiful golden brown colour. The outside batter was crisp and it was hot and juicy on the inside. My rating for this dish would be 8/10. Their Sweet & Sour Pork was another excellent dish. Lovely mix of vegetables and overall it was very satisfying. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

Sambal Petai @ RM 10.00

Pickled Vegetables Soup @ RM 7.00
Their Sambal Petai was on the wet side and for a change, it was really good. The abundance of gravy went very well with rice. For the price, they were definitely very generous with the Petai. Taste wise, I would rate this 8/10. We had also ordered a bowl of Pickled Vegetable Soup and this came with lots of Japanese Tofu, sliced Pork and Tomatoes. For RM 7.00, again it's a dish that was huge portion wise. This large bowl was good for 4 small bowls. Taste wise, my rating for this shall be 9/10.

Our Bill
Not many may have heard about this restaurant in Kajang. They are located in Taman Berjaya and it is a house turned into a restaurant. We had ordered a number of dishes and they were all good. Portions were huge and very reasonable prices. If you're looking for a good Chinese restaurant in Kajang to have dinner, I would definitely recommend Restoran 72.

Shell Out Seafood Restaurant @ Subang Jaya, Selangor

It has been many years since I visited Shell Out Seafood Restaurant. The last time I visited them was when they had first opened their very first outlet in Kota Damansara, Selangor and the memory had been good. Then, I found their food quality to be good and in fact, all of us enjoyed it. After such a long lapse, we returned again this afternoon. This time, it was at their outlet in Main Place, Subang Jaya.

The above are just some of the pages from their elaborate menu. What I mainly wanted to show here is their set meals that have an assortment of seafood jumbled up for a value price. Ordering was a breeze since I had previous experience of visiting this restaurant. The staffs were very helpful as well.

Rice Part Of The Combo

Combo B @ RM 149.00
Since there were the two of us, we went for their Combo B which was priced at RM 149.00 . This comes with some White Rice, Chicken Wings, Crawfish, Scallops, Broccoli, Corn, Octopus and Potato. It's surely a pretty decent portion for two. As for the price, I won't say that it's very expensive. It is definitely not a place that we could dine daily, that's for sure. But once in a while would surely not hurt. Today, I felt that their Rice was a little odd. In fact, both of us felt the same way. It just didn't feel good and because of that, we skipped most of it. If I were to rate this, I would give it 4/10. Coming to their main preparation, this was really good. Loved the sauces and the preparation was up to my expectations. My rating for this shall be 7/10.

Fried Chicken Wings

Fresh Coconut Pudding @ RM 13.90
Their Fried Chicken Wings were decent as well. Decent marination and it was fried to perfection. My rating for this shall be 7/10. Their Coconut Pudding however was just awesome. I totally loved the texture of the pudding and it was heavenly. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

Despite there being so many spin off's to this original restaurant, I still feel that the food here is a step above the rest. Prices are on the high side but again, this is not a restaurant that we would be visiting daily. For an occasional visit, it is surely a good choice. Loved the warm reception that we got as well.

Restoran Gulam Maju @ Kajang, Selangor

Restoran Gulam Maju is the only Indian Muslim restaurant that is available in Bukit Mewah 9, Kajang. In fact, it is the only restaurant that is available there. The food here has been nothing great and that is why most people have only been coming for drinks.

The Restaurant At Mewah 9 Residences
Not too long ago, I blogged about the Nasi Lemak at this restaurant which I found to be reasonably good. This entry however is about another new cuisine that had been recently added. They have recently hired a Kelantanese guy in their kitchen who specialises in those South Thailand dishes like Tomyam etc. that we would usually find in those Kelantanese restaurants. Having heard about this new hire, I decided to give his food a try.

Ayam Masak Pedas

Sup Ayam (Chicken Soup)
Their Ayam Masak Pedas was pretty good and I found the portion to be huge, way more than those Kelantanese restaurants and their prices were reasonable. In fact, it would have been good for me to solely order one dish and have just that with rice. The mix of ingredients were decent and I really enjoyed this preparation. My rating for this shall be 8/10. The next dish that I tried was their Sup Ayam. This again was another dish that I quite enjoyed. In fact, I would say that it had a hint of Indian taste to it. I would not even mind having this soup alone for dinner. Again, I would rate this preparation at 8/10 as well.

Kailan Ikan Masin

Sup Tomyam Ayam
Kailan Ikan Masin was again a huge portion. I loved the generous usage of salt fish. The only thing that slacked was the freshness of the vegetable. If only that was better, then obviously it would have been a better dish. Nevertheless, taste wise I would give it 7/10. The Chicken Tomyam Soup was also pretty decent. The flavours were lovely and I enjoyed it as well. Again, another one that I would rate at 7/10.

It is great that Restoran Gulam Maju had recently hired this Kelantanese cook who does prepare some good dishes. Instead of the usual South Indian curries, we can now also have Tomyam and the other varieties under the same roof. Taste wise, I found the dishes to be reasonably good and the portions were huge. Another good option to have here.

Popilla @ Cyberjaya, Selangor

Restoran Popilla is a Halal Mexican restaurant that has been established in a number of malls in the Klang Valley. Most often, they operate from a kiosk like concept with a small dining space. Similarly, that's how their outlet is established in D'Pulze Mall, Cyberjaya.

The Outlet On Level 2 Of D' Pulze Mall

Our Bill
It's very much a self service kiosk. Go up to the counter, place your orders, pay for them and be seated. Once they are ready, you'd have to pick it up yourself. The place is pretty simple but adequate. Since they are located right beside TGV Cinema, most of their customer's are people who come here to grab a quick meal before heading in for their movie.

Southwest Chicken Burritos @ RM 11.50

Southwest Chicken Burritos @ RM 11.50
For the price, I felt that the Southwest Chicken Burritos were quite small. Fillings wise, it was nothing much as well. Just some chicken, vegetables and a wrap. My rating for this shall be 6/10.

Grilled Chicken Quesadillas @ RM 14.90
Their Grilled Chicken Quesadillas were definitely much better than the Burritos. The Tortilla was crisp and it came with a decent portion of chicken and cheese. This I shall rate at 7/10.

If you're looking for a quick bite before catching a movie at D'Pulze Mall Cyberjaya, then you might want to consider Popilla. Very basic Mexican food is served and prices are slightly on the high side, nevertheless the place is perfect for a quick bite.  Between the Burritos and Quesadillas that I had tasted this evening, my vote would surely be for their Quesadillas.

Restoran 126 Bittergourd Noodles @ Taman Bukit Mayang Emas, Petaling Jaya

I had been checking with some of my friends as to where I could get some good Bitter Gourd Noodles and they recommended me this restaurant called Restoran 126 Bittergourd Noodles that is located in Taman Bukit Mayang Emas which is around Aman Suria area.

The Restaurant
Having heard about this place, I had to make a trip to check the food out. This restaurant is quite easy to locate since it is along the road fronting row of shops. The only challenge here is finding a place to park.

The Menu

The Menu

Grass Jelly Lime Drink
The above are just a few pages from their elaborate menu. This is a restaurant that specialises in a variety of noodle preparations. The highlight is of course their Bitter Gourd Noodles but some of their other dishes like Curry Laksa, Herbal Pork Noodles, Seafood Noodles and Seaweed Fish Paste Noodles are also top sellers. The waiter recommended me to give the above drink a try as this seems to be another one of their house specialties. In a matter of minutes, my drink was served and I found it to be really refreshing and good. My rating for this drink would be 9/10.

Bitter Gourd Noodles with Special Meat Paste @ RM 7.80

Bitter Gourd Noodles with Special Meat Paste @ RM 7.80
This Bitter Gourd Noodles were absolutely delicious. In fact, it won't be wrong to say that this is one of the best Bitter Gourd Noodles that I have tasted. The soup itself was so delicious. I was told that it was prepared using some herbs, chicken and anchovies that had been slow boiled for hours. If you're someone who loved bitter gourd, I would definitely recommend this restaurant. 10/10 would be my rating for this dish.

Rudy's Hainanese Chicken Rice & Porridge @ Tanjung Malim, Perak

Rudy's Chicken Rice & Porridge Stall has been around for many years now in Tanjung Malim. I have been his loyal customer for 38 years and that is a very long time indeed. In my opinion, as far as Steamed Chicken and Porridge goes, there's no one in town that could come anywhere close to Rudy's. Being a very fussy person, if I have been a loyal customer for almost four decades, that in itself should give you an indication as to how good his preparation is and ask any local, they would surely back me up.

Rudy's Stall Close To The Old Rex Cinema

Those days, he used to be in front of the Pork Market that was then opposite Restaurant Sin Hong Hin along Jalan Douglas. Of course, that Pork Market is no more, Restaurant Sin Hong Hin is no more and even Jalan Douglas had been renamed to something else these days and in the late 90's, after the demolition of those structures, he had moved to this present location which is along Jalan Loke Yew. This new stall is right beside the old and dilapidated Rex Cinema. Parking is much easier here. If you come along Jalan Loke Yew, once you sight the Celcom store on your left, try to find a parking bay. This stall is located on your right. One would have to walk in for about 30 meters to get to this stall. It is not easily visible from the street as there are another row of stalls facing the road and this, is right behind them. The place is just a simple no frills stall. Limited number of tables as the customer turnover is very quick. You don't get people sitting for long hours at Chicken Rice stalls and therefore this set up is more than enough for him. Besides Chicken Rice, his Porridge too is very famous and prices are quite reasonable. Of course, they have been steadily going up over the years but still very much acceptable. Rudy starts business at 11 am daily and this goes on till around 6 pm. Best to come before 5 pm as his Chicken sells quite fast. He does not have the roasted variety and specialises solely in Steamed Chicken. Good that he only does what he is good at as there are many other places that are famous for their roasted variety instead. Since he had made his name with this, best he stick with it. I was here late today and the place was not too crowded. I arrived at 4 pm and that gave me a comfortable seating. He is assisted by his wife and another helper. Besides doing this business, he also runs a gym come evenings. Rudy has always been a bodybuilding fan and is a bodybuilder himself. I used to admire him in his younger years. Well coming back to my meal this afternoon, I decided to go for his Porridge instead of Chicken Rice. Just a preference and no specific reason. Perhaps, my next trip here, I would go for his Chicken Rice and share that too with all of you. His drinks are limited to Chinese Tea and Herbal Tea and I went for the previous and this was priced at RM 0.50 per glass. After having registered my order, he was back at his station.

Rice Porridge

Clear Soup
As mentioned earlier, Rudy's Rice Porridge is pretty tasty and during the day time, I would  not look for any other place to have Rice Porridge as nothing comes close to this. My rating for his Rice Porridge shall be 9/10. The Clear Soup was tasty and is generally boiled along with some spices and those waste parts of Chicken. If you would like to have a second helping, he always obliges and provides them complimentary. Do note that he does not add MSG in his soup. I would rate his soup at 9/10 .

Steamed Chicken

Chili & Ginger
If one was to order the standard Chicken Rice, that would have been just RM 4 something and the chicken would be above the rice. As I just love his preparation, I always order more in a single plate and at times, have even ordered for up to RM 10.00 of chicken and finished it all by myself. His Steamed Chicken is just so tasty that I am yet to see one in Kuala Lumpur that comes anywhere close to this. Tender and juicy pieces and they are lip smacking good. Even the ones in Ipoh aren't as good as this. Served with some soy sauce at the base along with some garnishing, this is indeed a treat for any Steamed Chicken lover. For me, this rates nothing less than 10/10 . His Chili & Ginger Sauce is another one of my favourites  and how can I have my Steamed Chicken without this. This is his own preparation and he adds almost equal amounts of chili and ginger into this and it is a taste to remember. Very different to the ones that you get out there. In a single sitting, I can literally finish half the bottle and this is exactly what happened this evening. I would rate this at 9/10 .

If you're a fan of Steamed Chicken, Rice Porridge and Chicken Rice, my vote would be for Rudy's preparation. Having taken over his parents business for almost four decades now, the taste has been consistently good and his prices are very reasonable too. If you're in Tanjung Malim, this would be another place that I would recommend visiting.
