Hou Xiang 60s Chee Cheong Fun @ Petaling Jaya, Selangor

I have always been a fan of this restaurant, except that I used to very often go to their outlet in Bandar Sri Damansara. My last visit here has been years now and that's because I n longer live around that area. Having had the craving for some good Chee Cheong Fun, we decided to drop by at their outlet in Taman SEA, Petaling Jaya.

The Petaling Jaya Outlet Located Along Jalan SS 23/15

Food Preparation Counter
Design wise, it looks exactly the same as their Bandar Sri Damansara outlet. The good thing here is that parking is easy in the evenings. I am not sure if it is the same during the day but it was surely very convenient for us.

Iced Coffee @ RM 4.80 and Barley Lemon Cold @ RM 4.95

Taiwanese Sausage @ RM 4.60

Chicken Glutinous Rice @ RM 4.80

Homemade Chilli
The specialty here is of course the variety of Chee Cheong Fun's that they have. It's typically the different versions of the same dish that you get across Malaysia and you are able to taste these different versions under one roof. Besides that, they have an array of other dishes as well ranging from Yong Tau Fu to even a wide variety of deserts. The drinks that we had ordered were decent and I would rate them at 8/10. We tried their Taiwanese Sausage and it was just so so. I guess, it was a little too stiff for me and I would rate this at 6/10. Their Loh Mai Kai however was very good. Came with minimal oil and taste wise, it was excellent. 9/10 shall be my rating for this. Their Homemade Chilli is another thing that you should not miss here. Goes perfectly well with most of the sides.

Ipoh Style Chee Cheong Fun @ RM 4.80

Curry Chee Cheong Fun @ RM 5.60

Teluk Anson Chee Cheong Fun @ RM 6.50

Penang Style Chee Cheong Fun @ RM 4.80
The variety of Chee Cheong Fun's that they have is not limited to the above only. We only ordered these since it's one of our favourites and we doubt that we could have more than these. I would say all the variations were quite authentic and had distinct tastes. They were quite generous with the ingredients as well. On average, my rating for the above shall be 8/10.

If you're looking for a one stop restaurant to try the different variations of Chee Cheong Fun that we have in Malaysia, I would recommend visiting this restaurant. They have two outlets, one in Taman SEA and another in Bandar Sri Damansara. The Chee Cheong Fun's were definitely authentic in terms of taste and very reasonably priced. Lovely ambiance too.

Kedai Makanan Wing Heong @ Seri Kembangan, Selangor

Kedai Makanan Wing Heong is one of those Chinese neighbourhood restaurants that is famous for their Roasted Duck. This restaurant is located along Jalan College, Seri Kembangan.

The Restaurant Located Along Jalan College

It's Always Crowded

Water Chestnut Sugar Cane
Despite being a very humble set up, this restaurants draws customers from afar. The best time to come here would be at 11 am when most if not all the food items are ready. Once you pass 1 pm, only a selective items would be available and even then the place is crowded. Having travelled quite a distance, we only managed to reach here at about 1.15 pm and by then, a number of meat items had already been sold out. We tried their Sugar Cane drink and it was good. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

Butter Rice

Chili
Do go for their Butter Rice as it is quite tasty. They were very generous with the ingredients and that made the rice so delicious even when eaten on t's own. My rating for the rice shall be 8/10. Their Chili was also good though I may have tasted better ones. Nevertheless, it was medium spicy and I shall rate this at 8/10.

Roast Chicken

Bean Sprouts
Their Roast Chicken was nice and so was their Bean Sprouts. Perhaps, it was better than most Chicken Rice Stalls but it wasn't great enough to be near the best. The Roast Chicken was sufficiently moist and the meat was tender. However, the juices could have been better. My rating for the Roast Chicken shall be 8/10 and the Bean Sprouts 7/10.

Steamed Chicken

Roast Duck
Their Steamed Chicken was again good but not great. Pretty average stuff I would say and my rating for this shall be 7/10. Their Roast Duck however was truly excellent. Right from the skin to the meat, it was near perfect and my rating for this shall be 9/10. This was truly something that was extra ordinarily good.

If you're one that enjoys a good plate of Roast Duck, then you have got to try this place in Seri Kembangan. They have a variety of meat that they offer but their Roast Duck is the top seller and it's really good. Do come early as they sell out rather quickly and parking too becomes a challenge as  it gets close to lunch hours.

Pu Yuan Restaurant @ Jalan Kelang Lama, Kuala Lumpur

Pu Yuan Restaurant is a hidden gem that is located along Jalan Klang Lama. They have been around for many years and they are very famous among their loyal customers. In fact, there has been so many newspaper write ups about this restaurant but it's secluded location is one that makes this restaurant very unique, of course, it's food as well.

More Spaces To Park Near The Chinese School

The Road Heading To The Restaurant

That's The Entrance

The Entrance To The Restaurant

Business Hours
As you can see, the location is quite hidden and there is not much of a signage here. Most people would see the very first Hokkien Restaurant that is by the side of the road and would miss this restaurant that is located behind.

As you can see, the number of newspaper write ups about this restaurant is just so huge and the above is just a handful of them. This restaurant specialises in Hokkien cuisine and these are dishes that are commonly found in other Hokkien Restaurants. Once you are inside the restaurant, it's totally different. The ambiance is homely and it is air-conditioned for customers comfort. Ordering is easy as the lady boss is quite helpful.

Guiness Pork Ribs

Fried Sweet Potato Flour Noodles
Their Fried Sweet Potato Flour Noodles is their signature dish here. I found it to be pretty good and the one that truly lifted the taste was the fried lard. My rating for this shall be 9/10. Another famous dish here would be their Stir Fried Rice Cakes. We didn't try this dish as we were already quite full with what we had ordered. Nevertheless, I was told that this too is quite famous here. We also tried their Guinness Pork Ribs and it was excellent. 9/10 would be my rating for that dish.

Pork Spring Rolls

Steamed Fish Head with Ginger
Their Pork Spring Rolls were nice but I have tasted better ones. I felt that the texture was a little loose  and a little more meat would have made it better. 8/10 would be my rating for that dish. Their Steamed Fish Head with Ginger is another house speciality and this was really good. The fish was fresh and as a result, it was just heavenly. 9/10 would be my rating for this preparation.

For some very unique Hokkien dishes, I would recommend visiting Pu Yuan Restaurant that is located along Old Klang Road. The restaurant is a little secluded and can be very tricky to find but if you follow the instruction above, you should not miss it. Some of the famous dishes here would be their Fried Sweet Potato Flour Noodles, Stir Fried Rice Cake, Deep Fried Century Eggs and Steamed Fish Head with Ginger. Excellent food and reasonable prices.

Fat Boss Fish Ball @ Kajang, Selangor

We were here a couple of weeks back and having been impressed with the food, I decided to drop by again this morning and this time, with more friends. This restaurant is very famous for their Fish Balls and most often, they are sold out by 2 pm.

The above are all that you would get here. Their main business is breakfast and perhaps early lunch and if you want to try some of their specialty dishes, I would recommend coming early in the morning. The last time around, I had their Soup Noodles and it was just amazing. This time, I am thinking of trying another dish. Just like any other stall, orders are taken at your table and do note that you may have to wait a while for a table during peak hours.

Iced Coffee

Fried Pork
Their Iced Coffee was good. It tasted very much like the ones that we get in those old school Hainanese restaurants and my rating for this preparation shall be 9/10. Another good one to try here would be their Fried Pork. It's a mixture of lean meat and fat, sliced thinly, marinated and deep fried. It's so good to even have it on it's own. My rating for this shall be 10/10.

Soy Sauce Noodles

Assorted Items in Clear Soup
I tried their Soy Sauce Noodles and again, it was marvellous. Not the usual Wantan Mee but it was really good. It was a mix of noodles and they were very generous with the sauces. 10/10 would be my rating for this preparation. This dish also comes with a bowl of assorted ingredients like their famous Fish Balls, Tofu and Fish Cake and they were all good. 10/10 shall be my rating for these too.

Minced Pork Noodle

Fish Ball & Tofu
Their Minced Pork Noodles was another excellent preparation. The noodles were light and springy and the minced pork had some lovely flavours. It wouldn't be wrong for me to give this preparation a 10/10 as well as it totally deserves it. Once again, this dish comes with a bowl of Fish Balls and Tofu. As mentioned earlier, they were truly excellent.

For some excellent noodles in Kajang / Semenyih area, my recommendation would be to visit Fat Boss Fish Ball Restaurant that is located in Taman Teknologi Kajang. Every dish that we tried was so good and their Fish Balls were excellent.

Penang Char Kuey Teow Stall in Medan Selera Jalan 51A/223 @ Petaling Jaya, Selangor

I was back to Wisma Tecna this afternoon for some work and since I was here a little early, I decided to check out the food court that is along this road. Do note that this is not the large food court that is on the other end of this road. This food court that I am referring to is where the old KFC Holdings headquarters used to be, behind Axis Reit building.

The Stall on the Halal Side Of The Foodcourt
This foodcourt is separated into two sections, the Halal side and non Halal side. I have blogged about some of the eateries on the non Halal side before which covers both the South Indian stalls as well as another Chinese stall. This afternoon, I wanted to explore the other side to see what options were there and this stall caught my attention. A simple stall in a food court and they specialised in Char Kuey Teow. The had both wet and dry versions and we had ordered one each so that we could try both versions in one sitting.

Wet Char Kuey Teow @ RM 4.00
The Wet Char Kuey Teow was really good and it came with generous amount of eggy broth. The flat noodles were nicely done and the flavours blended really well. My rating for this preparation shall be 8/10.

Dry Char Kuey Teow @ RM 4.00
Their Dry Char Kuey Teow was equally good. This was a little on the spicy side and it came with lots of chicken bits. The texture and flavours that I had anticipated were definitely present. My rating for this preparation shall be 8/10 as well.

Both the Wet and Dry Char Kuey Teow were up to my expectations and I loved the preparation. If you're on this side of Petaling Jaya, I would definitely recommend visiting this stall.

Sam Poh Vegetarian House @ Ampang, Selangor

Sam Poh Vegetarian House is a Chinese Vegetarian Restaurant that is located in Bandar Baru Ampang. This restaurant has been around for many years and they are famous among the locals for their excellent and reasonably priced breakfast and lunch spread.

The Restaurant In Bandar Baru Ampang
This restaurant is located in a very old settlement in Ampang. The shop is not as modern, the facilities are basic but their food spread is really good and they serve home cooked style food. Parking is easy here and please note that this restaurant is open till 4.30 pm only on a daily basis.

Herbal Tea

Complimentary Vegetable Soup
It is very much self service here. Just walk to the counter, pick your dishes and pay for them at the counter. Order your drinks at the counter and they would serve you right away. There is a big pot of vegetable soup at the entrance and that's complimentary. I found their Herbal Soup to be really excellent. It was so satisfying and my rating for this shall be 10/10. Similarly, their complimentary soup was real vegetable soup and not just some clear soup. Again, this soup is served in a large bowl and there is no restrictions as to how much you could take. Another one that deserves a rating of 10/10.

My Lunch
The had both rice and noodles and I went for the latter. Of course, this was topped with some Stir Fried Bitter Gourd, Stuffed Bitter Gourd, Mock Char Siew, Mushrooms Stir Fried with Black Fungus and Mock Chicken Curry with Potatoes. This whole lot cost me a mere RM 5.50 which I felt was a steal. Everything that I tried was so good. 9/10 shall be my rating for this meal.

Sam Poh Vegetarian House serves some excellent Chinese Vegetarian Mixed Rice dishes. Their spread is fabulous, pleasant hospitality, reasonable prices and home cooked taste. If you're in Bandar Baru Ampang, I would recommend giving this place a try.

Address: 51, Jalan Wawasan Ampang 4/6, Bandar Baru Ampang, 68000 Ampang, Selangor.

Restoran YMT Healthy Vegetarian @ Subang Jaya, Selangor

YMT Healthy Vegetarian Restaurant is a Chinese Vegetarian Restaurant that is located in USJ 9, Subang Jaya. They are very popular among the locals here and being in a commercial area that is surrounded by offices, they are mostly full house during peak hours.

The Restaurant Located Along Jalan USJ 9/5P
It is quite easy to locate this restaurant however, parking can be a huge challenge here. We ended up parking two blocks away and had to walk quite a distance. The restaurant is air-conditioned and very clean. We were here just before the peak hours and they were almost full then. Customers that came subsequently had to wait for a while or change their mind and do takeaways instead.

Herbal Tea
They have some interesting menu. On one side, they offer selective dishes on a daily basis and this is their promotional packages that comes at a very reasonable price. However, you could also select dishes from their other menu which is more like multi dishes options. However, they also offer a handful of noodles that's available daily. Family set meals which is a bundled option is also available. As for the drink, we ordered their Herbal Tea and it was good. y rating for this drink shall be 8/10.

Bitter Gourd Tofu Rice Set @ RM 12.90
Their Bitter Gourd Tofu Rice Set was priced at RM 12.90 . This set came with a bowl of Brown Rice, some Clear Soup and Bitter Gourd with Tofu. Generally, the flavours were quite light here and it was evident that they had not used any MSG in their cooking. The soup was good and so was their Bitter Gourd. My rating for this preparation shall be 8/10.

Stew Wantan Mee @ RM 11.90
Their Wantan Mee was good and it came with some greens and mock Char Siew. The Mock Char Siew was just okay as I have tasted better ones. The noodles however were tasty and the portions were relatively large. My rating for this preparation shall be 8/10.

For some good Chinese Vegetarian food in Subang Jaya, you might want to try YMT Healthy Vegetarian Restaurant that is located in USJ 9. The set meals are worth the price and they are quite tasty. Do note that they are usually full house during peak hours and so it's best to come earlier. Good food, reasonable prices and lovely ambiance.
