Restoran Vege Life @ Puchong, Selangor

We had to run down to Kuala Lumpur for an errand today and it's great that it's still the Hari Raya Haji season and the roads were quite clear. Usually, we would avoid heading to the city on our vegetarian days but this was inevitable and we had to do the trip. En route on our way to Kajang, we stopped over at this restaurant that is located in Bandar Puteri Puchong. I had bookmarked this restaurant in the past and am glad that we were able to tick it off this afternoon. I have heard some good reviews from friends about this place and that is why I have brought my family here unhesitatingly.

Restaurant Vege Life in Bandar Puteri Puchong

Entrance

Lovely Design

Long Sofa's

As I am fairly familiar with Bandar Puteri and had already known roughly where this restaurant is located, it was fairly easy for us. For those who would like to head here, once you turn into Bandar Puteri, keep left and do not take the overhead bridge. Keep going straight till you see a set of traffic lights and a  turn to take a U Turn. At this place, take the U Turn and keep left again. At the end of the row, turn in on your left and keep going straight pass the badminton court and the food court. Shortly ahead, look right and you would be able to see this restaurant. The place was lovely I would say. Loved the design and the background Buddhist chants. Very clean but don't expect a smile from the staffs. They are efficient but none of them would smile and I do not know for what reason that is. That aside, the place was good.

Self  Ordering Chit
They had a very comprehensive menu covering a number of cuisines and yes, they were all vegetarian. Good to see that they also have some set deals along with some attractive deals for Steamboat. The above are just a few pages from their menu. Too many pages to photograph and I had skipped some but covered the variety of cuisines available. All the dishes are numbered and one would have to fill their orders into the above Self Ordering Chit and subsequently had them to the waiter once done.

Warm Water @ RM 1.00 per glass
They had a number of fusion and organic drinks but we were just not in the mood for those. I had asked for Chinese Tea but that was not available. So we opted for the above warm water which was priced at RM 1.00 per glass and it came with a slice of lime.

Curry Mutton Rice @ RM 6.80

Curry Mutton Rice @ RM 6.80

Curry Mutton Rice @ RM 6.80
Wait time wasn't too long and in less than 15 minutes, the dishes started arriving one after the other. The first to arrive was the above Curry Mutton Rice. Rice was served with a thick curry along with some huge potato cuts and vegetarian mutton pieces. The preparation seemed very much South Indian but with a Chinese touch to it. For RM 6.80 , it's definitely a good deal and we loved it. The gravy was just awesome and the potatoes complimented the curry wonderfully! I would rate this at 9/10 . Surely a good one to recommend!

Mixed Vegetable Stew Rice @ RM 6.80

Mixed Vegetable Stew Rice @ RM 6.80

Mixed Vegetable Stew Rice @ RM 6.80
Another good preparation. The stew had loads of vegetables, a variety of mushrooms and mock meat and it was served in a thick and starchy broth. The broth was very much medium bodied and that gave the advantage to the dish as the natural taste of the additions were not subdued. A good preparation and I would rate this at 8/10 .

Vegetarian Fish & Chips Set @ RM 8.80

Vegetarian Fish & Chips Set @ RM 8.80

Fries

Salad

Mock Fish
Although the portion seems small, it was very satisfying. As you know these mock meats tend to expand and it was able to fill my tummy. They had tried their best to get as close as possible to the original version and I felt that they did justice to the dish. This may not be the best Vegetarian Fish & Chips that I had tasted, nevertheless it was a good one and surely one that I would recommend. I would rate this at 8.5/10 .

To summarise our dining experience this afternoon, I would say that they were good across the dishes that we tried. The ambiance was lovely and so was the food. Prices were decent except for the glass of water which was priced at RM 1.00 . Otherwise, a good vegetarian restaurant!

New Orleans Barbecue @ Genting Highlands, Pahang

After having spent some Ringgit in the casino, it was nearing our dinner time and we were already quite hungry. Having done Chinese for lunch and Pastries for Tea we thought of going for a different cuisine for dinner and that is how we landed at New Orleans Barbecue. This is an American Barbecue Restaurant and it located on the 2nd Floor of Maxims Hotel, directly adjacent to the Monte Carlo 777 Casino. Do note that this is a non Halal restaurant. The restaurant is quite hidden and it is best to ask around if you are not able to find this place. If you managed to located the toilets inside the Monte Carlo 777 Casino, then keep walking straight pass an arch and you should be able to sight this restaurant on your far left. This restaurant has been around for a number of years now, even when this hotel was known as Highlands Hotel and I have dined here in the past and found the food to be quite good. Having been convinced then, I brought my family over tonight.

Us Checking Out The Menu

Lovely Designed Restaurant

Very American Feel To The Place

Huge Dining Space
Before moving on, firstly I must apologise for the quality of the photographs. I was only using my mobile phone camera and thus the place may not seem as beautiful as it did to the naked eyes. The the food pictures below, I have had to use flash photography and as a result, it may not seem up to the mark but I hope that my narration helps. Coming back to this restaurant, even before entering the restaurant, we had checked on the menu at the entrance and found it satisfactory. I must say that the staffs here were doing a fabulous job. Being a fairly busy night, they were all on their heels running about and serving customers. It was lovely to look at and the Captain seemed to be doing his part amazingly well too. The set up was posh and had a very American feel to it. Huge dining area with many tables and they were all adequately spaced thus allowing customers to have their own private conversations without being heard by the table beside them. As we had confirmed our orders at the entrance itself, nobody disturbed us and we were left to be to ourselves.

My Dad & Brother

A Snapshot Of Their Menu

Cutlery & Sauces
Their menu was a very lengthy one and having quickly glimpsed it at the entrance, I only managed to take a snapshot of the section of items which we ordered. Just to recap our orders, My Dad ordered some Fish & Chips, my Brother ordered a Grilled Chicken Chop and me, Grilled Pork Chop. All tables came with the necessary cutlery and sauces and an ashtray as the restaurant was a smoker friendly place. Since they serve Beer and other alcoholic beverages, it just makes sense for them to provide ashtrays as well.

Tea @ RM 5.00

Coffee @ RM 5.00
Tea and Coffee were priced at RM 5.00 each. These two items including water is not served. One would be required to go up to the Coffee Bar and collect your own drinks. Refilling is allowed any number of times. That being so, I felt that it was quite a reasonable deal. Obviously being the youngest, my Brother was bullied to do the honours of getting our drinks. Do I sound like a bully? He he well once in a while it's fine right. Both the Coffee and Tea were decent. They also had milk and sugar for those who did not prefer black. I would rate the both of these drinks at 8/10 .

Cream Of Chicken Soup

Cream Of Chicken Soup
By the time we fixed our drinks, the soups arrived. This is part of any grilled set in this restaurant and is provided complimentary. We were not able to select the kind of soup as it was the run of the day and today it was this Cream of Chicken Soup. The soup was good, not excellent but surely a good one. All of us enjoyed it and we were glad that it was served piping hot which was just perfect for the cool weather. Taste wise, I would rate this at 8/10 .

Deep Fried Fish & Chips @ RM 24.00

Deep Fried Fish & Chips @ RM 24.00

Green Peas, Carrots and Corn

French Fries

Tartar Dip Sauce
The price quoted in this entire blog is the member's price which I think comes with a 10% or 15% discount from the list price. This Deep Fried Fish & Chips set was priced at RM 24.00 and I felt that it was very reasonable. Even in Kuala Lumpur, assuming that it's a very ordinary restaurant, the same dish would be priced between RM 12 to RM 15 and for Genting Highlands, this is indeed very reasonable. Portion was good too. The plate was huge and as such, the cuts seem small. Besides the deep Fried Fish, they also provided with some mixed vegetables and French Fries on the sides. Of course the standard Tartar Sauce was also there. I would say that the preparation was good. The fish was perfect and coated in a tasty batter and the Tartar Sauce too tasted just perfect. It would have been better if the mixed vegetables were sauteed with butter, nevertheless they were still nice. I would rate this dish at 8.5/10 .

Grilled Chicken Chop @ RM 21.00

A Huge Chicken Thigh

Lovely Barbecue Sauce

Potato Wedges and Mixed Vegetables
This Grilled Chicken Chop Set was priced at RM 21.00 and it came with a huge piece of Chicken Thigh, some Barbecue Sauce along with some Potato Wedges and Mixed Vegetables on the sides. One has a choice of the kind of sauce that you would like and my brother chose Barbecue Sauce. If it was me, I would have gone with the Black Pepper Sauce but it's his meal anyway and since he preferred this, that be it.The Chicken Chop was perfectly grilled to a golden brown colour and the meat was so tender and tasty. The Marination used was lovely indeed. The Barbecue Sauce was a good preparation too and it accompanied the mains well. Overall, a good dish. I would rate this at 8.5/10 .

Grilled Pork Chop @ RM 21.00

Two Huge Cuts
Their Grilled Pork Chop came with two huge cuts, topped with my preferred Plum Sauce and with some Mixed Vegetable and Potato Wedges on the sides and this was priced very reasonably at RM 21.00 . I did taste all three dishes to be able to review and from what I tasted, this Pork Chop stands out as the winner. It was just amazing. The meat was lovely, grilled just right and yet, it was firm and juicy. And the Plum Sauce complemented the meat so well. The Wedges were lovely too. I would rate this at 9.3/10 .

On the whole, it was a lovely dining experience for us and all of us enjoyed the evening. What a way to end the day. Amazing staffs, lovely food, extremely reasonable prices, awesome ambiance, what more can one ask for in a restaurant. Simply perfect and I would highly recommend this restaurant to all!

Kedai Makan Norliza @ Hulu Bernam, Selangor

Having been craving for Nasi Lemak since last night, I wanted to try the Nasi Lemak that came highly recommended at the old railway station this morning. I reached the destination but sadly the place was closed. Not too sure why they did not open this morning. In return, what I did was head to one of the famous places in Ulu Bernam (Nasi Lemak Tepi Kedai Salman) and packed some Nasi Lemak for my family and on my way back, stopped by another place called Kedai Makan Norliza to get some Nasi Lemak for myself. I have not tried the food here but looking at the crowd daily, the food must be quite good.

Entrance To The Stall

View From The Main Road
This stall is located on the Ulu Bernam side of town, in Kampung Jambatan and right beside the bridge over the Bernam River. The name is not visible unless you walk in as it is usually covered with some non relevant posters. Must be one of those thrown away posters why they have diligently used to shade themselves from the heat of the sun. Nevertheless, if you follow the directions carefully, you would not be able to miss this place. There is not much of a parking space available and one would have to just park by the side of the main road. Generally quite safe here during the day.

Lot's Of Lauk To Choose From
The place is simple but neat and tidy. The feel is like one of those little restaurants in Kampung areas. A few indoor tables and many more placed outside the restaurant, all of which are covered areas. The Kakak was quite busy as there were many who were doing takeaways. I initially wanted to dine in but looking at the lack of seats, I decided to just do takeaway instead. There were a variety of curries to choose from. If I am not mistaken, there were at least fifteen varieties to go with the Nasi Lemak. As I had already set my mind to go for the basic Nasi Lemak, I asked just for that. It was priced at RM 2.00, fairly decent I felt and once I paid, I continued my journey back home with a happy heart that my craving was going to be fulfilled.

Nasi Lemak @ RM 2.00

Yummy and So Inviting

Generous With The Sambal
For RM 2.00, the packet came with a generous portion of Rice, half a Boiled Egg, some cucumber slices and an enormous amount of Sambal. Presentation is obviously off as this was a take away. If I had dined there, then definitely the presentation would have been better and as such, it is unfair to speak about presentation here.

Coconut Milk Rice
The Rice itself was very tasty. One that was cooked with coconut milk and spices, it was good and so aromatic. Not the best that I have tried in town but it was still good. I would rate their Rice at 8/10 .

Sambal

A Fried Egg Too
Their Sambal was superb! One of those spicy versions in town. Not too spicy for me but I am sure that this would be considered spicy by many. Their Sambal was slightly sweet, slightly salty and very spicy and that combination was simply fantastic. The Fried Egg too was fried to perfection. I would rate her Sambal at 9/10 .

In summary, I would say that the Nasi Lemak from this stall was definitely impressive. Not the best in Tanjung Malim (of course taste differs from one to another) but surely one of those good ones. Definitely a place that I would recommend!
