Esmail Tomyam @ Tanjung Malim, Perak

Esmail Tomyam is a Tomyam place that has been around since the 80's and is still going strong. There were so many other restaurants that opened up after these guys but all of them have closed down, except for the new ones that have opened in recent years. This restaurant had shifted locations a number of times but the ownership had not changed and now, they are located in Taman Universiti, Tanjung Malim.

As far as the decor goes, there's nothing much in this restaurant and as far as I can remember, nothing had changed as well. Simple, personalised service is what you get from this restaurant. Though many similar restaurants have started charging higher due to the influx of students to Tanjung Malim, these guys have kept their prices very minimal and that's one of the reasons why they have been surviving till date. 

Ayam Masak Pedas @ RM 4.00

A plate of rice would cost you RM 1.50 and they actually give you more than their competitors. This Ayam Masak Pedas dish was priced at RM 4.00 . For the price, I would say that the portion was decent. A good mix of chicken bits and veggies and the sauce was delicious. Not the best in Tanjung Malim for this dish but still good. I would give this a 8/10. 

Sayur Goreng Ikan Masin

Another one of my favourites at this restaurant is the above seen Sayur Goreng Ikan Masin. What I like most here is the freshness of the greens and they are quite generous with the salt fish as well. Not overdone, the greens were still crispy and the blend of sauces were satisfactorily good. Again, a ddish that deserves 8/10. 

Telur Dadar @ RM 1.50 each

The Telur Dadar was not too bad. My only complaint would be the greasiness. Otherwise, it tasted good as well. I would rate this at 7/10. 

Udang Goreng Tepung @ RM 4.00

Udang Goreng Tepung dish was good. The shrimps were fresh and the batter that coated the shrimps tasted good. Not like those bland tasting ones. Another good thing is that they were not at all oily. Loved them! I would give these 8/10 as well. 

This is a no frills Tomyam restaurant and one shouldn't have great expectation when heading here. The place is simple, the people are simple. the dishes are decent and the prices are very reasonable. A good day to day restaurant that would satisfy one who is on a budget.
