If you're in Rawang in the afternoons, you have got to try the South Indian Cakes at Nesan Curry House. Here I am not referring to the older Nesan Curry House which is in the middle of the row of shops along Jalan Welman. This one is along that very same row of shops, except that it is located towards the corner, just beside Hong Leong Bank.
Nesan Curry House Along Jalan Welman, Rawang |
Huge Variety of South Indian Cakes That Sells Very Fast |
From around 2.30 pm daily, this new Nesan Curry House is packed with customers who solely come here for the South Indian cakes that are freshly made at the entrance. In fact the place get's so crowded that sometimes the moment a particular cake is fried and laid on the Banana Leaves, it immediately disappears. Besides these cakes, they also sell Kesari, Sundal and a few more items. Prices are very reasonable and way cheaper than what we get in Kuala Lumpur or even Tanjung Malim for that matter.
Ulunthu Vadai |
Masala Vadai |
Their Ulunthu Vadai is not so great. The reason is it's a little greasy and that is not to my liking. Otherwise the ingredients are just perfect and they are quite large in size. Their Masala Vadai however is one of the best that I have tasted. It is so crispy, non greasy and it tastes so good. Between the two, the Masala Vadai is one that is sought after by many. As far as my rating goes, I would give their Ulunthu Vadai 7/10 and their Masala Vadai 9/10.
Bonda, Pasipayiru Bonda and Kolukattai |
Surul Appam |
Their Bonda is nice but not excellent. It is a little stiff on the outside and sweet and soft on the inside. As mentioned earlier, this is not a top selling item here as it is quite basic taste wise. As for this, I would rate it at 7/10. Their Pasipayiru Bonda and Kolukattai are awesome. That is why even in the above photograph, you see most of it sold out and customers are waiting for fresh ones to come in. Both are excellent and I would give them 9/10 each. Surul Appam is another hot seller here. The green outer layer is so creamy and tasty and the grated coconut and palm sugar filling is just heavenly! I would give this one a 9/10 as well.
Potato Curry Puffs |
These Potato Curry Puffs are super good and it disappears in a blink. This photograph was taken when a fresh batch was fried and topped up. and within minutes, they would disappear. The potato masala is so tasty and the outer skin is so soft and nice. This definitely deserves a 10/10. Highly recommended!
My favourites here are definitely their Curry Puffs, Masala Vadai, Kolukattai, Pasipayiru Bonda and Surul Appam. Their Kesari is nice too but I have tasted better ones. If you're passing Rawang town in the afternoons, do make an effort to stop and give these a try. You would definitely love it too!
