Tino's Pizza Express @ Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur

Bangsar South is a place that has tremendously transformed in the recent years. When I used to visit this place a couple of years back, there were only a handful of eateries. Today, there are so many choices. This afternoon, we were at Bangsar South and decided to give Tony's Pizza Express a try.

Located At The Ground Floor of Nexus Bangsar South

Very Catchy Designs
This outlet is located on the Ground Floor of Nexus Bangsar South and their business hours are 10 to 10, daily. Their concept was simple and I loved the chic designs. Service levels were excellent too and their staffs were very friendly and helpful.

They had a good variety of pizza's and they were reasonably priced. As for the crust options, both classic and thin crust were available. Since my friend was a vegetarian, we decided to go for any one of the vegetarian pizzas and finally decided on the Margherita Pizza.

Margherita Pizza (M) @ RM 21.90
We had initially wanted to order two pizza's but the waiter informed us that one is good for two. Luckily she did stop us as it was really huge. The Margherita Pizza comes with cherry tomatoes, grada padano, mozzarella and cheddar cheese. I found the ingredients to be good and even the bread was soft and lovely. Together, it was definitely a good one and my rating for this shall be 8/10.

Tino's Pizza does offer some very good pizza's and the variety that is available is impressive. Their pizza's are tasty and reasonably priced. Vegetarian options are available too. If you're around Bangsar South, I would recommend giving this place a try.

Go Lokal Cafe @ Putrajaya, Wilayah Persekutuan

We were driving around Putrajaya looking for a good place to have Cendol and when I looked up Google, it seemed to advise me to give this place a try based on the community feedback. All the comments seemed good and so, we decided to trop by after lunch.

Go Lokal Cafe Inside Suria Mall

Contact Details For Catering

Business Hours
This outlet is located inside Suria Mall, Putrajaya. Honestly, I did not even know that such a mall existed until this afternoon. There was no proper signage as well but it was connected to Dorsett Putrajaya Hotel. The mall seemed pretty decent with a number of outlets being open. Coming back to this cafe, they have a huge variety of Cendol to choose from. Having had a heavy lunch, we decided to keep it simple and go for the basic one.

Cendol @ RM 3.00

Nice & Refreshing
Their Basic Cendol was priced at RM 3.00 per bowl. Decent portions and the ingredients were just nice. Of course, there is so much add on's to choose from if you're in the mood for a much richer Cendol. For me, I found the quality to be good and my rating for this shall be 8/10.

The Bill
For some good Cendol in Putrajaya, you might want to try Go Lokal Cafe that is located inside Suria Mall. Prices may be slightly high but quality ingredients are used. Good taste and comfortable seating as well.

Assoda Curry House @ Kampung Pandan, Kuala Lumpur

I had visited Assoda Curry House sometime in March this year and was very impressed with the food despite having felt that their prices were slightly on the high side. Nevertheless, the fact that the food was amazingly good, I was willing to pay such prices. It's been a couple of months now and this afternoon, I was craving for some really good South Indian food. That being the case, I decided to drive up all the way to Kampung Pandan again.

Assoda Curry House in Kampung Pandan

My Lunch @ RM 17.00
This restaurant is located along a very narrow lane in Kampung Pandan. Most times, parking can be a challenge and my recommendation would be to park near the house and walk through the Malay food court to get to this restaurant. The majority of their customers are seen to have gone for their Banana Leaf Rice Meals but I did not want to go for that. The last time too, I did the very same thing. What I did was to go for their plate options and take the food items that I really like. This time around, I went for some Rice, Salt Fish Curry(Karuvaattu Kulambu), Mutton Varuval, Fish Cutlet and Sura Puttu (Meen Varai). This lot cost me RM 17.00 .

Karuvaattu Kulambu

Fish Cutlet
Just like my previous visit, their Karuvattu Kulambu was awesome. Thick and it comes with lots of add on's and the taste is so authentic. 9/10 shall be my rating for this. Their Fish Cutlet was again amazing. It actually tasted like Fish Cutlet and not like some flour like dough. Truly generous with the ingredients and my rating for this too shall be 9/10.

Sura Puttu (Meen Varai)

Mutton Varuval
Sura Puttu was another excellent dish and they were generous with the spices. Overall an amazing blend of flavours it was. Again, 9/10 for this. Their Mutton Varuval was super good. It won't bewaring to say that this was one of the best Mutton Varuval's that I have tasted. 10/10 would be my rating.

Payasam

Iced Moor
This afternoon, they also had Payasam which was complimentary. Just the right level of sweetness and it was thick and good. 9/10 is what this preparation deserves. Similarly, their Iced Moor was pretty good as well. Reminds me of the quality that we get at Akka's Food Corner in Segambut. Again, 9/10 would be my rating.

If you're looking for some excellent South Indian food, Assoda Curry House would be my choice. Prices are high but you're guaranteed to return happy and your taste buds satisfied if not overwhelmed. A must visit restaurant in Kampung Pandan.

Hong Kong Roast (Stall 12A) in Food Junction @ Mid Valley Megamall, Kuala Lumpur

It's been ages since I visited Mid Valley Megamall and I happened to be here today as I had to attend an exhibition that was happening at MVEC. Since I was alone, I did not want to give any one of those restaurants a try as there is a limit as to what I could eat. That being the case, I checked out the food court called Food Junction that is located on the 3rd Floor of this mall.

Stall 12A, Hong Kong Roast

Roast Meat Variety
All the stalls here are Halal certified and they have a very good spread. Name the cuisine and you'd be able to find a stall here that sells that particular cuisine. The place was also pretty clean and just like any other food court, it's pretty much self service here where you'd have to go to each stall and place your orders. This particular Roast Meat stall looked attractive to me. Moreover, they had Wan Tan Mee and I wanted something that was not too heavy and this was just ideal.

The variety on their menu was excellent. Roast Duck, Roast Chicken, Braised Chicken and BBQ Chicken were available and you could have them on their own or a variety of combinations to choose from. This covers both with rice as well as with Wan Tan Noodles.

Pickled Chilies

Clear Soup
Once you place your orders, you pay for them and wait till the dish is prepared. Then you carry it over to your table. This particular stall even had pickled chillies that is almost a mandatory thing to have with Wan Tan Mee. My only grievance with regards to their chilies is that it's slightly too thick a cut. Otherwise, it was fresh and nice. Their clear soup was decent as well. If I were to rate this, my rating shall be 6/10.

Shrimp Wan Tan Noodle @ RM 7.90
I went for their Shrimp Wan Tan Noodle set and it was priced at RM 7.90. Fairly reasonable price for a mall likeMid Valley and the portion was huge. Surprisingly, the noodles were really good. In fact, it was better than many of the places that deem to make some super duper Wan Tan Mee. Even the Fried Shrimp Dumplings were tasty. And what adds to the taste is the freshly fried dumplings just as you place your orders. Very impressive preparation and my rating for this shall be 8/10.

If you're trying out the Food Court in Mid Valley Megamall, I would recommend going for this Shrimp Wan Tan Mee from Stall Number 12A. Truly excellent preparation and it's even better than  some of those famous restaurants. Fresh, tasty and reasonably priced. Definitely one that I would recommend.

Yap Yin & Bak Kut Teh Restaurant @ Seri Kembangan, Selangor

Sometime last month we visited this restaurant as we were told that their Bak Kut Teh is pretty good. During that visit, we managed to try another one of their signature dishes which is their Steamed Haruan Fish and it was truly awesome. This evening, we decided to return to try more of their signature dishes.

The Restaurant Located Along Jalan Sekolah, Seri Kembangan

Sauces, Chilies & Tissue
As always, the restaurant was almost at a full house capacity. This time, we decided to skip the Bak Kut Teh and order a few of their signature dishes. We had a late lunch though and that being the case, we decided to skip rice too and solely go for these dishes. As always, the lady boss was quite helpful with the ordering. In fact, I wanted to order crabs as well and she advised me not to as the price for the day was pretty high. That's really nice of her. You hardly get such kind of reception from restaurant owners these days.

Salted Egg Prawns @ RM 48.00

Steamed Haruan Fish with Essence Of Chicken @ RM 30.00
One of the signature dishes here is the above Salted Egg Prawns. The prawns used were some really big ones and the volume of flesh that you get is good. They were very generous with the salted egg as well and it was a perfectly done dish. For the portion, the price of RM 48.00 surely seemed reasonable to us. My rating for this dish shall be 9/10. Another must try dish here would be their Steamed Haruan Fish with Essence Of Chicken. This is priced at RM 30.00 and it is absolutely heavenly. The fish is deboned and that's another good thing since this fish comes with some really tiny bones. Taste wise, it's really good and my rating would be 10/10.

Steamed Clams in Rice Wine @ RM 20.00
This is another must try dish at this restaurant. The preparation is really good and the clam used is the medium to large sized ones. Despite that, they were cooked to a tender state and the broth was amazing. My rating for this dish shall be 9/10 as well.

Our Bill
All three dishes that we tried this evening were good. Between the Prawns with Salted Egg, Steamed Clams in Rice Wine and the Steamed Haruan Fish in Essence of Chicken, the winner was obviously the Steamed Haruan dish. Nevertheless, the other two were also pretty good. Excellent customer service, clean environment and reasonable prices. A good restaurant to visit in Seri Kembangan.

Restoran Basil Leaves @ Kajang, Selangor

For those who have been following me for a while, you may have realised that I have blogged about Basil Leaves Restaurant a number op times. But each entry is about a unique food that I have come across at this restaurant. One thing that I love about this restaurant is their innovative mindset. They don't just serve you the usual South Indian food, they innovate and bring you new dishes and this is one that truly excites me. Ultimately, innovative recipes is one that keeps world class chefs going. Just like the rest of my blog entries, this afternoon I shall be blogging about another dish that is new to me that I have discovered at Basil Leaves Restaurant last night.

The Restaurant In Taman Kajang Sentral

Mutton Masala Thosai @ RM 9.80
We have all mostly tried Masala Thosai's that come filled with Potato Masala stuffings. However, Basil Leaves Restaurant has something that is quite unique that is not commonly found, at least I have not seen this preparation anywhere else before this. This is their Mutton Masala Thosai. At a glance, it may seem quite ordinary but trust me, it is really something.

Sambar

Mutton Gravy

Coconut Chutney

Tomato Chutney
The Mutton Masala Thosai comes with some Sambar, Coconut Chutney, Tomato Chutney and Mutton Gravy. Their Sambar has always been good. It comes with just the right amount of spices and it's something that I absolutely love. Similarly, their Tomato Chutney is pretty good as well and it's mildly spicy. For me, both of these deserve a rating of 8/10. Their Tomato Chutney however still has room for improvement. It's quite flaky and taste wise, needs more spices to boost the taste. My rating for this shall be 7/10. Their Mutton Gravy is good but a tad too oily. Again, I would rate it at 7/10.

Thick, Spicy, Masala Gravy
The Mutton Masala Thosai itself is pretty awesome. The gravy is so thick and it comes with lot's of potatoes. Really amazing stuff and it's so good to even have it on it's own. If you;re one who loves mutton, this is a must try dish. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

Bru Coffee @ RM 2.60

As always, my favourite here is to round up each meal with a lovely cup of Bru Coffee. Although I don't go for the cows milk version, still it's sufficiently tasty. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

My Bill
Calling all Mutton lovers out there! If you're one who loves mutton, I would strongly recommend this Mutton Masala Thosai which is absolutely heavenly. It's priced at RM 9.80 each. Still, I find it to be truly worth it as it's a treat to your taste buds.Highly recommended preparation from Basil Leaves Restaurant.

Coliseum Cafe @ Petaling Jaya, Selangor

Coliseum Cafe has been one of my all time favourite Western restaurants. I have been patronising this restaurant for more than 40 years now. Initially, it has been their outlet along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and of late, the other two outlets located in Jaya 33 and Gardens Mall. It has been a while that we visited them, should be at least a year now and after the sabbatical, we're back here this afternoon for lunch.

Coliseum Cafe in Jaya 33, Petaling Jaya

Classic Indoor Dining Area

Quality Sauces

Top Sellers Here

Top Sellers Here
This particular outlet is located in Jaya 33, Petaling Jaya and parking is convenient. They have both indoor and outdoor seating areas as well. The theme across all their restaurant are the same and it is great that they are maintaining the classic ambiance. Their menu has surely been growing and the prices getting higher, but if they maintain the same authentic taste, then it is surely worth it. Service is and has always been excellent here and the waiters are really professional. Since were knew exactly what we wanted, the ordering process was a breeze for us.

Coca Cola @ RM 4.50

Mushroom Soup @ RM 10.90

Bun
We had ordered Coca Cola and they came in these tall glasses. Each was priced at RM 4.50 . It seems like the one from the tall 1.5 L bottles but they were good and the gas was intact. We had also ordered some Mushroom Soup for starters and these were priced at RM 10.90 each. The soup was awesome and it came with a bun. A mix of ground mushrooms were used to make the soup and not the off the shelf Campbells Soup. Taste wise, it had remained consistent over the years and my rating for this shall be 9/10. Their bun however should have been heated up and this one that was served was cold. That was a setback that we encountered this trip. I believe that they should rectify this and return to how it has been always served before.

Salad

Wedges & Veggies

Fried Anchovies @ RM 12.90
All of us went for the Sizzling New Zealand Lamb Chop Set which was priced at RM 52.90 . In this set, you get the above Salad as well as Wedges and Veggies. Both were good and my rating for them shall be 9/10. Another one of our favourites here is the Fried Anchovies. I find the preparation here to be really good. The price is now RM 12.90 and we found the portion to be decent. Preparation was good and again, this too deserves a rating of 9/10. Do note that this is a spicy dish and comes with lot's of bird eye chillies.

Sizzling New Zealand Lamb Chops

Four Large Cuts In A Hotplate
It wasn't too long and the chops were served. The cuts were as big as they usually are and they were served in the same piping hot sizzling style. The meat was nicely done. However, the sauces slacked. It was not close to what it had used to be. Seriously, I found it difficult to have it on it's own and had to go for the Lingham Sauce which isn't my usual practice here. This was a let down as I used to totally love the Chops here. If I were rate this dish, my rating would be 6/10 only.

Our Bill
Coliseum Cafe has been one of my favourite Western restaurants for a very long time. Their service levels are excellent and we are glad that it has remained consistently so. All the sides were great, absolutely loved them. However, our mains, the Sizzling New Zealand Lamb Chops were a let down. The cuts were lovely and they were nicely done. However, the sauce was just not quite there, thus bringing the whole dish down with it. I do hope that they improve on this flaw and return to the quality that they had always been known for.
