Char Kuey Teow & Pork Satay Tokong @ Kajang, Selangor

If you are in Kajang and would like to try a very unique Char Kuey Teow, I would recommend giving this place a try. This is just a humble stall that is located along Jalan Mendaling in Kajang Town not too far from the Chinese Temple hence the name Char Kuey Teow Tokong.

The Aunty Frying Char Kuey Teow

The Son Making Pork Satay

Pork Satay
Once you come towards Maybank in Kajang Town, I would suggest that you to find a parking bay as this stall is just a throw away. There's not much of a seating capacity here, at most only 10 people can be seated at any one time but this is fine as the majority of their customers do takeaways. The highlight at this stall is their Char Kuey Teow which is done very differently and the other would be their Pork Satay, which is the only Pork Satay place in Kajang town.

Herbal Tea @ RM 1.20
Besides a handful of can drinks, the staple drink here is their Herbal Tea. In fact, most people would be going for this and it's priced at RM 1.20 per glass. Very homemade taste to it and it has that undiluted flavours. We loved it and I would strongly recommend giving this a try. My rating for this would be 9/10.

Pork Satay @ RM 0.90 each

Thick, Crunchy Peanut Dip
It does take a while for the Char Kuey Teow to be served as there would at least be 30 takeaway orders ahead of you and the Aunty always fries one plate at a time for quality control. So, it's best to order some Pork Satay just to fill your hungry tummy during that wait time. Their Pork Satay is priced at RM 0.90 each. The meat was beautifully marinated, only lean meat is used and the portion was decent. It had a slightly sweet taste and that complimented the spicy and crunchy peanut dip perfectly. Unlike the Malay style of preparation, this peanut dip was thick, really thick and the peanuts were very coarsely ground and so it gives you that crunchy taste. This is definitely one good Pork Satay and I  won't be wrong to say that it qualifies to be in the Top 5 places for Pork Satay in the Klang Valley. My rating for this would be 9/10 for both their Satay and the Peanut Dip.

Char Kuey Teow @ RM 4.,50

All Mixed Up
As mentioned earlier, their Char Kuey Teow is very unique. The Aunty fries the Kuey Teow first, and then pushes it aside on the wok, breaks an egg and puts half the amount of fried Kuey Teow there and similarly she repeats it again. That means you'd get a plate of Char Kuey Teow sticking closely to two eggs and you'd be expected to stir it up. The presentation was very unique and it was very tasty as well. The heat was perfect and it had a creamy taste to it. Delicious to the last bite. She also uses a lot of Fish Cake but omits cockles. Still, it was equally good and very tasty. My rating for this shall be 9/10 as well.

This is definitely a very unique plate of Char Kuey Teow, one that comes sticking to the egg or shall I say fried on the egg instead of the conventional methods. Despite being a simple stall with limited seating capacity, you'd be surprised to see the response that they get daily. On average, one would easily need to wait 30 to 40 minutes before being served. Similarly, their Pork Satay is heavenly too. The only place that serves Pork Satay in Kajang and comes with a plate of spicy, crunchy peanut dip. Both are highly recommended and it is best to come around 7 to 8 pm as they tend to get sold out rather quickly.

Restoran Chennai Spice @ Cyberjaya, Selangor

Chennai Spice Restaurant is one of the most frequented day to day South Indian restaurants in Cyberjaya. Due to the variety of dishes that they have, right from an array of food items for breakfast, to Banana Leaf Meals for lunch and a variety of tiffin items for dinner, these people have gained a prominent place for themselves within the Indian community in Cyberjaya.

The Restaurant Along Jalan GC 9, Cyberjaya

Clean and Wonderful Customer Service
This restaurant is located along Jalan GC9, on the Glomac Cyberjaya area and is open 24 hours daily. That is another reason why they are very popular. Since there are many call centres here that operate round the clock, this is just the perfect place for those who want to have meals even after midnight. Not only that, most of the dishes are freshly prepared based on orders and that is something that customers look out for. Prices are quite reasonable too. The restaurant itself was clean and brightly lit up and the overall environment seems inviting even from the outside.

Teh Tarik @ RM 1.70
Before even checking out their curry station, I found a place to sit first and ordered myself a cup of tea which was priced at RM 1.70 . Since I was here during lunch hours, there were many that were hogging that area and I wanted the crowd to ease before checking the dishes out. Alternatively, for those who want to go light, they have a variety of South Indian tiffin items that are mostly found in Tamil Nadu, all freshly made to order. Their Teh Tarik was good, not too sweet and perfectly balanced. I would rate this drink at 9/10.

My Meal @ RM 16.00
Once the crowd cleared, I went over to the curry station to check what was available and it was a pretty impressive spread even at this hour. Right from simple dishes to crab and a variety of cuttlefish dishes, it was definitely very inviting and they all looked good. Fried items are fried upon request as well and you get to choose the meat cut of choice. I had Rice, Cauliflower Pakkora and Mutton Perattal. This lot cost me RM 10.00 . The Egg Curry with one egg cost me RM 1.00 and RM 5.00 for the Fried Tenggiri Fish. Despite seeming to be quite high for a single meal, I did find it to quite reasonable, especially looking at the cost breakdown.

Cauliflower Pakkora

Egg Curry

Thick Gravy With Lots of Egg
Their Cauliflower Pakkora was decent. Despite being fried earlier in the day, it still was quite crispy. The only setback would be the lack of spices. I think they had only marinated it in turmeric and salt. It would have been better if they had used chili powder as well. My rating for this shall be 7/10. Their Egg Curry was very good. I am sure you could see the generous amount of egg used and it surely enhanced the taste. The curry itself was thick and sufficiently spiced. I would give this 9/10.

Mutton Varuval

Fried Tenggiri Fish
Their Mutton Varuval was pretty good as well. Less bones and it came with more lean meat. The mutton were just the right sized cuts and they were perfectly done. Not too hard and not too soft, just about right in terms of chewiness. A good one to have here and I would rate this at 8/10. Their Fried Tenggiri Fish was excellent. Since it was freshly fried to order, that surely boosted the taste. Not only that, the chef himself fried this for me and he made it just perfect. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. One that deserves 10/10.

My Bill
Despite having been charged RM 16.00 for this meal, I found it to be quite reasonable. Rice plus Cauliflower Pakkora and Mutton Varuval cost me RM 10.00 , the freshly Fried Tenggiri Fish cost me RM 5.00 and the Egg Curry RM 1.00 and that sums it up to RM 16.00 . Food was good and some dishes like the Egg Curry and Fried Fish were very good. For a 24 hour Tamil restaurant, I would say that they do have a wonderful variety of dishes freshly served round the clock. Definitely a good place to have South Indian meals in Cyberjaya.

Happy Happy Bread Bakery @ Kajang, Selangor

I heard about this place in Bandar Sungai Chua called Happy Happy Bread Bakery that is famous for it's Cheese Tarts and Half Baked Cheese Tarts from a friend and I did some research on the internet and found this place to be extremely famous. Since it isn't too far from Cyberjaya, I decided to drop by this evening.

The Bakery In Taman Berjaya, Kajang

Variety of Pastries

Sells Out Quickly

This may seem like an ordinary bakery but let me tell you that you can find a queue as long as 100 meters twice daily here. They mainly sell Chinese bread and pastries along with Cheese Tarts. But the most famous one here is their Half Baked Cheese Tarts. These are baked twice a day once at noon and again at 6.30 pm and that is when, this place would be having such a long queue. In 15 to 30 minutes, the entire lot would have been sold out. It is called half baked because it isn't solid like the usual Cheese Tarts, This one would have the cheese oozing out, quite similar to the custard buns that you find at Dim Sum places. I was here at 7.00 pm and I could not find any despite it being baked just an hour before.

Cheese Tarts and Some Buns
Since I could not enjoy their top seller which is their Half Baked Cheese Tarts, I had to settle with some buns and Cheese Tarts. These again were so good. The bun was soft and fluffy and it was so fresh. These miniature Cheese Tarts were a treat on it's own as well. Definitely some excellent buns and they were way better to those that we commonly get. I am definitely coming back to get my hands on their famous Half Baked Cheese Tarts that are baked twice daily, once at sharp noon and again at 6.30 pm. Make sure you're here early i.e. at least 10 minutes before as it sells out within 15 to 30 minutes. Once again, don't be surprised if you see a queue with 30 people ahead of you. A must visit bakery in Bandar Sungai Chua.

Restoran Culinary Pleasure @ Cyberjaya, Selangor

It has been a long time since I had Arabic food. There was a phase in my life where I used to be crazy of Arabic food and I would patronise at least two restaurants a week. Gone are those days and after a long time, I had the urge to visit one. Luckily, there are so many of them in Cyberjaya. In fact, after Indian restaurants, the second largest cuisine in Cyberjaya would be Arabic. While looking for a place to visit, I did read some reviews and was told that this place does some of the best lamb dishes. Being a huge fan of lamb, I just could not resist.

The Restaurant in CBD 2, Cyberjaya

Outdoor Seating Area

A Posh Indoor Seating Area

See Through Kitchen Concept
From outside, this restaurant seemed a little run down but once inside, it was the total opposite. The concept was luxurious and there were sub cubicle like small private dining areas and each one of the had a TV set. The staffs were very friendly and being an Indian, they assumed that I was not familiar with Arabic food and took the time to patiently explain each and every dish.

Drinking Water On The House
The above are just a few pages from their colourful and illustrious menu. They have an extensive range of dishes and all seemed to be reasonably priced. Another thing that impressed me was that they do not charge for drinking water, be it iced water or warm water. When most restaurants charge for these nowadays, it was just a pleasant surprise that these guys don't. Once we were done with the ordering, the chef got to work and we could clearly see and smell the dishes as he was preparing them since he was behind a semi covered glass partition.

Lamb Zurbian @ RM 22.90
Lamb Zurbian is one of the top sellers here and a rare dish to find in restaurants. The lamb which is inside the rice is slow cooked over amber for 24 hours and as a result, it becomes so soft and has a cotton like texture. The rice is topped with spices and served with the Arabic version of Chicken Kurma which is what you see in the side bowl. I must confess that it was a heavenly dish. The mixture of rice and lamb was so good and the Kurma was an absolute delight. The Kurma didn't taste like the usual Indian style Kurma. It was slightly salty and tasted something like the Campbell's Chicken Soup, perhaps a cross between that and Kurma. In short, a must try dish here and this deserves 10/10 for sure.

Wraps For The Fajitas

Lamb Fajita @ RM 29.90

Chili Dip

Do It Yourself Wraps
The Lamb Fajitas were served on a hot grill and the wraps were served separately in a cane container. Along with that, there was some chili dip just in case you wanted it to be spicy. The lamb itself was heavenly. I could go on eating this forever. Seriously, it was that good. The lamb tasted very similar to corned mutton and came with the perfect blend of capsicum, onions, garlic, carrots and herbs. Wrap it yourself and you're done. This was the fastest dish to finish. Each one of us were so much into this dish as it was so good. If I were to rate this, I would give it 10/10.

Chicken Parmesana @ RM 20.90
Their Chicken Parmesana was another good dish. Rich in tomato sauce and a blend of other ingredients. In fact, the grilled chicken was huge too and it was so tasty. You can't see the full size here as it is mostly covered. 8/10 for this!

Bill For The Day
If you're into lamb and Arabic food, then I would suggest you to give this place a try. Their lamb dishes were simply amazing. Heavenly stuff that's cooked with perfect skills. Even their Chicken dish was good but nowhere close to their lamb dishes. Lamb Zurbian and Lamb Fajitas are two must try dishes here!

Satay Awe @ Kajang, Selangor

In the past, I have blogged about three good places to have Satay Kajang  and they are Satay Haji Samuri, Willy Satay and Nyok Lan Satay. This entry brings you another such great place, however, it is not as famous as the rest.

Restoran Choon Tien in Sungai Chua

The Satay Stall Inside Restoran Choon Tien

Delicious Satay Being Grilled
Unlike the other three satay places which are located in Kajang town, this one is located in a Chinese restaurant in Bandar Sungai Chua. Once you're in Bandar Sungai Chua, look out for Restoran Choon Tien which is a typical Chinese food court that operates in the evenings. This stall is at the far corner of this restaurant. Satay Awe is open daily from 7 pm till midnight. Her off days are not fixed as she has an ailing husband to care for.

Chicken Satay @ 0.80 each

Peanut Sauce
The Satay is extremely tasty and only lean meat is served. The Satay itself was so good to go on it's own and for such a huge chunk of meat, she only charges 80 sen each. The Peanut Sauce was another excellent one. Mildly sweet and comes with coarsely ground peanuts and served with a dash of chili. My rating for this is definitely 9/10 for both the satay and the dip sauce. Truly a hidden gem and one of the Top 5 satay's in Kajang.

Restoran Maju Utama @ Cyberjaya, Selangor

While being concentrated on the Glomac Cyberjaya side all this while, I never realised that there are restaurants on CBD side as well. Only difference is this side the majority of restaurants are Arabic with a handful of Indian and Malay restaurants. In fact, Restoran Maju Utama is the only Indian Muslim restaurant to be found this side.

Restaurant Maju Utama in CBD 2, Cyberjaya

Huge Variety Of Nasi Kandar Style Dishes

Iced Tea @ RM 2.20
This restaurant is crowded all day long and is extremely busy during lunch hours. One of the good things here is the variety that you get. I was very impressed to see the range of dishes offered that is only found in real Nasi Kandar joints. One thing for sure is that you would be spoilt for choice here. Since it was very crowded when I had arrived, I decided to take a seat and wait for the crowd to disperse while sipping my tea. Their Teh Ais was good, typical Indian Muslim restaurant quality and I would give it 8/10.

My Lunch @ RM 12.80

They Use POS Systems
When the crowd eased, I walked over to the counter to get my lunch. Variety was amazing and everything looked good and the above is the items that I had selected. Rice (half portion), Mutton Curry (gravy only), Chicken, Fish Sambal and Potatoes mixed with carrots. This lot cost me RM 12.80 which I found to be very reasonable bearing in mind the number of meat items that I had taken. Moreover, it is an air-conditioned restaurant.

Their Mutton Curry was thick and heavily spiced, just the way I love it. And in case you're wondering, they do have bone marrow curry as well which I am sure would be heavenly. The looks of it was so inviting. Probably I would go for that the next time I am here. As for this curry that I had tasted, I would give it 8/10. Potato stir fried with carrots were very tasty as well. Cooked to just the right level and the spices were perfect. Huge portions too. I would rate this at 8/10 as well.

Masala Chicken
Their Masala Chicken looked good but it was rather disappointing. Firstly, it was recycled chicken. The previous days fried chicken which had becomes this and probably even longer. When I tried pulling the meat, it came off like strands of thread and turned out to be quite stiff. The overall preparation lacked flavours too. But the size of the piece was huge. Taste wise, I would only give this 5/10.

Sambal Fish
This Sambal Fish was simply out of this world. It was super spicy, the fish cuts were fresh, so juicy and delicious. This would be one that I would highly recommend to try. Excellent stuff and I would rate it 10/10.

Bill For The Day
So far from what I have come across, these guys are the best Indian Muslim restaurant in Cyberjaya. I wouldn't say excellent food but the best that I have come across though there are still a few more that I have not visited. Their lunch spread is the winner and that would be the best time to visit them. Prices are reasonable and service is speedy. A good place to head to if you're looking for Indian Muslim food in Cyberjaya.
