Suki-ya @ Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur

Restaurant Suki-Ya is a Halal Japanese Restaurant located on the first floor of 1 Mont Kiara Mall. This restaurant specializes in Japanese Steamboat. I am not much of a Japanese food fan but my friend is and he wanted to try the Japanese Steamboat for lunch today. Since we were in the neighborhood, we decided to give this place a try.

Buffet Concept

Buffet Price
This restaurant predominantly operates on a buffet concept for both lunch and dinner. It is a 'Eat All You Can' concept but then, you are only allowed 120 minutes. Anything above that is chargeable in 15 minute blocks. During lunch hours, this place is really packed and it is advisable to book a table in advance. When we reached here, it did take a while for us to get a table. We had to wait at the counter for almost 15 minutes until a table was allocated for us.

Waiting For Our Table
Buffet lunch is priced at RM 29.80 ++ and dinner at RM 39.80 ++ . Three main types of meat is used here and they are Beef, Chicken and Lamb. Of course, ultimately the choice of meat is yours.

Prices

The concept here is pretty simple. For the Steamboat, you would just have to choose the type of soup. They have a variety of Miso Soup, Sukiyaki, Shabu Shabu and Kimuchi. Just inform them your preferred meat types and then we need to head on to the bar to pick our preferred vegetables and other items. Also inclusive in the price is free flow of Green Tea.

Sushi was available too

Healthy Bar

We then head over to the bar and picked our vegetables. Since I am a novice with Japanese food, I let my friend do all the picking.

Our Selection of Sushi

Soy Sauce

Though I am not much of a Sushi lover, the Sushi here did indeed taste good. Sad that there was just limited variety.

Miso Soup & Kimuchi
Our pot was then filled up with the preferred soup and the hob was lighted up. We went for Miso Soup and Kimuchi.

Clear instructions were laid out on the table mats and we just followed them step by step. It made our lives easier as we did not have to rely on anyone else.

We then distributed the vegetables evenly in the two sections and waited for the soups to come to a boil.

This was a very interesting experience for me. As the heat built up, the thin slices of meat cooked in less than a minute. We had to make sure that there was no wastage as they had clearly indicated that any wastage would be charged by the grams and at a premium price. The entire process was very fun for me. It was like cooking your own dinner in a restaurant contrary to the norms whereby food is already cooked for you and all that you would have to do is to eat it. The Miso Soup and Kimuchi Soup was surely good. You can also opt for rice if you would need and there would be no additional charges. We truly enjoyed this meal and I would surely return here again. The total meal for today came to RM 72.20 for the two of us.

  1. Really love their sukiyaki broth. It's like the main soup I always go for when I eat at sukiya. I just order the meat and let it come endlessly!
