Dgend Dining @ Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur

Located on the first floor of 1 Mont Kiara Mall, this is the most famous restaurant in the area. In fact, I believe this is the place where you can get one of the cheapest food in Mont Kiara.

We visited this place at night for dinner and that is why it seems pretty vacant. During lunch hours, it is almost impossible to get a table and most often, we would have to share tables with others. They do have a number of outlets across some of the up market malls in the Klang Valley and this was their very first outlet.

Ordering Chit

The Menu
The menu here is quite extensive and offers a great variety. They have Chinese, Hong Kong, Malay, Malaysian, Thai, Vegetarian and Western Cuisine. A great collection under one roof and from what I have tried most of their dishes are generally good. Ordering is very simple too. Each of the dishes and drinks are coded and then one has to fill in their orders into the Ordering Chit that is placed at every table. Once done, just call the waiters and they would verify the dishes with you before passing it to the kitchen. All the workers  and cooks here are foreigners, yet the food quality and service level is efficient.

Hot Tea @ RM 3.50
I ordered this tea and it was very nice. It was fixed perfectly with the right balance of milk and sugar. I would rate this 8.5/10 .

Teh Tarik Big Glass @ RM 4.20
This was slightly too sweet and diluted. They could have made this better based on the plain tea that they fixed for me. I would only rate this 6/10 .

Honey Lemon Tea @ RM 4.30
This drink was good. It had a thick tea flavour and the lemon was soaking in well into the tea giving it a great taste. I would rate this again 8.5/10 .

Vegetarian Curry Mutton Rice @ RM 13.00
Close Up on the Curry Mutton
I was truly disappointed with this dish. Not because it did not taste good. The gravy was tasty. But when you mentioned Curry Mutton, I expect the vegetarian mutton to be used, to the very least the soya meal makers. However here, they had used mushrooms. Not sure if it is a cost cutting exercise but it did bring the taste down. Because of that, I would only rate this dish  5/10 as the name does not fit the dish.

Fried Kuey Tiow @ RM 9.00
This dish was slightly above average only. Though it is listed as a Chef's recommended dish here, I found it to be a little salty. A little on the moist side and would have been better if it was slightly dry. I would only rate this 6/10.

Vegetarian Fried Rice @ RM 10.50
This dish according to my friend was average. I think they had put too much corn and made this a little too sweet. Please do bear in mind that although it is listed as vegetarian, you would need to inform them  not to use eggs, else you would find eggs in your dish. Based on my friends recommendations, I would rate this dish 6.5/10 .

Cantonese Yee Mee @ RM 11.00
Besides having the dishes there, I also did take away some dishes and these are some of them. I am sure you could identify it from the cutlery used. This Yee Mee was pretty nice and I enjoyed it. A recommended dish here. I would rate this 8/10 .

Seafood Lobak @ RM 6.00
This was another good dish here. I found the Lobak to be tasty and the meat soft and nice. The flavouring was also about right. My rating for this is 8.5/10 .

Home Recipe Soup Dumpling @ RM 9.00
I like this dish too but their dumplings are slightly different. It was a little too soft and the meat was mixed with great amounts of radish. This made the dumplings break very easily but the taste was fine. The soup was also pretty decent. I wonder why they put those porky faces into a dish in a Halal restaurant. Wonder if their Muslim customers do not mind. My recommendation would be to remove those. This dish, I would rate this at 8.3/10 .

Other two dishes which I have tried in the past and found them to be good were their Curry Mee and Rendang Chicken Nasi Lemak, which most often finishes quite fast. Never ever try their Chicken Chop as it is really bad.

Overall, this is not bad a restaurant to have your meal but definitely not the best ones out there. I feel that they should up their quality slightly as they receive a very good reception from the working community here in Mont Kiara. A slight investment would surely reap much more profits from loyal and new customers in the vicinity.

  1. The pigs are cute but yes, it would be a good idea to remove them seeming this a HALAL restaurant. It seems a bit insensitive.
