Peruvie - Peruvian Grilled Chicken @ Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur

This is a newly opened eatery in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. Located on a shared premises with Penang Village Restaurant along Lorong Rahim Kajai 13, this is a new franchise restaurant that serves Peruvian Grilled Chicken. Having sighted this restaurant today, Angie and I decided to head there for dinner.

The Entrance

Recent renovations have split the Penang Village restaurant into two sections. The inner section has been dedicated to this restaurant while the outer section has been retained by Penang Village. I was made to understand that it belongs to the same owners. The restaurant is quite simple in design. They have seats available both inside and outside the restaurant.

The Kitchen Visible

The Kitchen

Us at the restaurant
The set up was pretty weird to me. It was simple but strangely the kitchen was visible. Not only that, it also showed how slowly the kitchen staff worked and all the dirty dishes were just stacked around him in an non organised manner. Well, there was only one guy working the kitchen and he was surely as slow as a snail.

Cutlery
The staffing was pretty poor. All their waiters were part timers and they were school students who had no idea what customer satisfaction is. We had to call a few times for the orders to be taken and they were more busy chit chatting with one another. What pissed me off further was the rudeness of the waiters, not one but all. The language spoken was the same level as a secondary student would speak to their peers at school. This was unacceptable. They also had difficulty in jotting the orders down and making numerous mistakes along the way. Even worse, the kitchen staff was more interested in courting the girls rather then preparing customers orders and the wait time was typically 40 minutes before your dishes arrived.

Peruvie Sangria Single @ RM 7.90
The drink was the first to arrive. I loved this drink. It was surely something that I have never tried in my life. The base taste was sour with a strong note of lemon. Definitely a very refreshing drink. I would rate this 9/10 .

Sausage Strips & Chips @ RM 8.50

Aji Amarillo Dip
It took the above dish 40 minutes to arrive and that too after checking with them numerous times. It is clear that even the waiters do not know what their dish is all about. At first, when I checked with them, they informed me that it is a foot long sausage that is stripped and placed along with some fries. When I received the dish, it was clearly not what was communicated to us. I just did not want to argue with them on this. This dish comes with the Aji Amarillo Dip which tasted quite like sour mint sauce. At RM 8.50, I feel that this dish is not worth it. I would only rate this at 5/10 .

Quarter Chicken Set @ RM 15.90

Closer look at the chicken

The Fries

Coleslaw
This set was pretty okay I should say. The chicken was more on the sweet side and the portion size definitely small. Though it was quoted at 1/4 chicken, it was probably half the size of what you get at Kenny Rogers Roasters, though the price is about the same. I would say that this dish was okay but not the best Peruvian food around. Would just rate this at 5.5/10 . There are better places even in TTDI where you can get excellent Peruvian dishes, of course the price is more on the upscale market.

Crema Volteada con Quinoa @ RM 7.90
This is a Peruvian desert. I had another issue with this dish. Initially I had ordered something else and after 45 minutes, I was told that they ran out of stock for that dish and then I agreed to swap it for this dish. Having waited for so long after my dinner, I lost my patience and called the waiter and asked for my desert. She immediately shouted at me saying "you said you dowan right". Well guys, where is your manners. If you do not know how to wait tables, then just don't wait tables. And please do not speak to me as if I am your nine year old  younger brother. Well, coming back to the dish again, I found it to be just average and a little too sweet. I would again rate this at 4/10 only.

Cake of the day @ RM 7.90
The cake of the day was nice. It was a slice of chocolate cake with Vanilla Ice Cream topping. This was the best dish we had at this restaurant. I would rate this at 7/10 .

In total, the meal today cost us RM 52.90 including taxes. Would I come back to this restaurant...surely not. They definitely have some serious disciplinary issues with both their permanent and temporary staffs. The temporary staffs think that this is their fathers restaurant and everyone that comes here, comes to eat for free and thus do not require to be respected and the permanent staffs definitely need to be taught to concentrate on their work rather than trying to tackle these temp staffs. There was even an incident where this Chinese gentleman came with his wife and child and they were waiting as long as I did and even before the food had been served, the waiters went and gave him the bill and requested him to pay and he shouted at them just before walking out of the restaurant. There were many other disgruntled customers at the restaurant that night. I for sure, would not return to this restaurant.

  1. To bad you had a bad day dining at Peruvie TTDI. Me and my family lives just few blocks away from Peruvie. Well, the food is good, and the staff was ok. We never hoping to get 5 star service but the boys done a good job. The Manager or Operation Manager also was very pleasant and helpful to us

    1. Dear Datin Hasnidah Saidon, thank you very much for your comments. I live around the vicinity too and it must have been just a bad day. In fact eve last night as I walked past this restaurant, I did not see that bunch of staffs that I had mentioned. They must have been temps who just filled in for that day. But sadly, that was my experience on the day that I had visited. Once again, thank you for your comments. Appreciate it.

  3. I wonder if this restaurant still exists? Anyway, the kind of service and attitude they provided are a definite NO-NO for me. after all, we are paying customers right? The chicken and cake sure looks tasty though

    1. I wonder too but never wanted to return. Once was enough. The food was not bad but it was the customer service that was not at acceptable levels and that ticked me off. As you can see from the comments above, some liked it too. After all, this is my experience on that day and at that time which just happened to be unfortunate....
