Fei Fei Crab @ Desa Aman Puri, Kuala Lumpur

Fei Fei Crab Restaurant has always been on my must do list and I have never had the chance to drop by although they are located quite close to my place. Since my brother is here with me today and he too being a crab lover, we decided to head over for a late night's snack.

Fei Fei Crab Restaurant in Desa Aman Puri
This restaurant is located in Desa Aman Puri, Kuala Lumpur and has even been featured on the Ho Chak program on 8TV. They have been here for five years now and definitely have gained popularity both within the neighbourhood as well as greater Klang Valley. We were here quite late today. When we arrived, it was close to 9.40 pm and still there were quite a number of customers walking in. They usually close at 11 pm daily. I believe that they are used to managing large crowds. This I see from the swiftness of the staff in handling the customers as well as setting up the tables for large ad hoc crowd. Their tables are extended even on the pavement outside the shop as well as a tented area opposite the shop. Sitting outside did not seem like a bad idea tonight as the weather was nice and windy.

The Menu - Some Set Meals
The moment we sat, the lady boss attended to us immediately. She went through the pain of explaining their offerings and specialty dishes. When going through their menu, it was evident that a lot of emphasis was placed on their crab varieties but their offering was not limited to this. They also offer a number of other Chinese dishes and another one of their specialty is their Salt Wrap Fish. Since we had had a late and heavy lunch, we just stuck to crabs, as for us, this was more of a supper. We also did not want to have rice. Although this lady boss spent some time with us, she was not customer centric as she was trying to get us to order as much as possible and I had had to intervene and said that we are done. Unlike some other places where the owners are more customer centric and do place some level of care on the customers to ensure that they do not over order, that was clearly not the case here and that was a little annoying. Finally, we settled for two variety of crab dishes.

Coca Cola @ RM 2.20
As for the drinks, we both had a Coca Cola each and this was priced at RM 2.20 which seemed very reasonable to me.

Man Tao Bun @ RM 4.50
The crab varieties that we ordered was one wet style and another dry style. As with all wet style crab dishes, the Man Tao Bun is almost a must. My brother is not much of a fan of these buns and therefore I just got one for myself. The bun here was quite good and was not sweet like the ones available in some other places which was to my liking. I would rate these buns here at 8.5/10 .

Spicy Cheese Crab @ RM 48.00
This was the very first variety of crab dish that we received and it was the Spicy Cheese Crab. Generally, they have two dish sizes for crabs. 3 Medium Size crabs for the price of RM 48 and 2 Extra Extra Large Crabs for the price of RM 58. We choose the 3 Medium size Crabs for both the dishes and it cost us RM 48.00 each. Now, the good thing here is that the crab shell was mostly broken in the kitchen which makes the eating much easier as well as it allows the gravy and flavours to seep into the crab meat. I must say that this dish was really good and it was one of the best that I have ever tried. The Spicy Cheese gravy was also lavish and there was more than sufficient to be enjoyed with the Man Tao Buns. I would definitely rate this dish at a perfect 10/10 and would strongly recommend it.

Salted Egg Crab @ RM 48.00
Shortly thereafter, the Salted Egg Crabs arrived. In all honesty, the earlier dish was very good and this one was heavenly. I have never tasted Salted Egg Crabs this tasty in my life. It was exceptionally good. The taste was really great and the salted egg coating was thick and I noticed that they had used dried chilies as well in this dish which gave it a slight spicy aftertaste which was pleasant. If I could, I would rate this dish at 15/10 but I know that that is not logical and therefore, I would stick with a perfect 10/10 again.

By the time we finished the above dishes savouring each bite, it was almost 11 pm and it was their closing time. We then quickly wrapped up the meal and left shortly thereafter. I like the fact that no one rushed us to finish our meal despite the fact that they were packing up and cleaning the restaurant. I would definitely say that this place had successfully hooked me today and I would surely return here at least once a month if not twice. I find their crabs to be really good and the price is quite reasonable. Hopefully in the near future, I would be able to try their Salt Wrap Fish too and looking forward to trying more of their crab dishes soon.
