Restaurant Mahbub is the restaurant that dominates the Indian Muslim food scene in Damansara Damai. Being located along the main access road in and out of Damansara Damai, they operate 24 hours a day and all throughout the day, they have a steady flow of customers right from breakfast to the wee hours of the night. Besides this particular outlet in Damansara Damai, they also have another outlet in Bangsar.

The outlet in Bangsar has been around since the 1970's and Mahbub is very famous for their Briyani Ayam Madu and Briyani Buhara. They also have a good array of dishes for lunch but this entry is focused on the other individual dishes and I would be specifically highlighting dishes which in my opinion is the best that they have to offer. Being located in a corner unit, they have the advantage of space and by evening, you would be able to see tables also arranged along the sides of the inner road. Typical of any other Indian Muslim restaurant, the service here is quite efficient and they would usually attend to you quite fast. The only setback here is that the cleanliness is just average.

Teh Tarik @ RM 1.40 |
Just like any other Indian Muslim restaurant, the tea here is quite good. It is decently sweetened and is slightly bold. I would rate their Teh Tarik at 8/10 .Do note that generally the prices here are slightly higher than other Indian Muslim restaurants, yet, due to the consistency of food quality and portion sizes, customers are willing to pay the slight premium.

The Tandoori Station |
|
Tandoori Chicken @ RM 6.00 |
The Tandoori Chicken and Naan is prepared by a Pakistani guy from Pakistan. I was not in the mood for Naan today and hence only ordered the Chicken. You have the option to choose the piece and I choose the above thigh. Their set of Tandoori Chicken is served with Mint Chutney and some sliced cucumber.

Mint Chutney |
The Mint Chutney was quite good. In most restaurants, they serve it watery but here, the preparation is quite concentrated. Definitely good stuff and I would rate it at 8.5/10 .

Tandoori Chicken |
According to my brother, this is one of his favourite places to get his Tandoori fix but we have differing views here. I find this to be good, the meat was very tender and juicy and it is good to be eaten on it's own without the mint chutney but it was not the best that I have tried. The good thing is that it is grilled using a traditional charcoal oven and that had contributed to the meat being tender. My rating for this would be 8.5/10 .

Better Look at the Meat Cuts |
They also do serve Mutton and Chicken Soup and I opted to try their Mutton Soup. This is the first time that I am trying their Mutton Soup despite having been at this restaurant for more than a hundred times at least. I must confess that it was the best Mutton Soup that I have had. It was made in a spicy and rich soup that was filled with spices and it was cooked with chunks of mutton along with their marrow that definitely added to the taste. Definitely a must try for Mutton Soup lovers! I would rate their soup at 9.8/10 .

2 Roti Canai in Fish Curry @ RM 2.20 (RM 1.10 each) |
|
Thick and Aromatic Fish Curry |
Another excellent preparation here is their Roti Canai and it is a must for me to have it with the Fish Curry. Both these items are excellently prepared here. I would rate their Roti Canai preparation at 9/10 and their Fish Curry at 9.5/10.
Besides these dishes, their rice and curry offering during lunch is also worth a try but it is slightly on the pricey side. Perhaps during my next visit, I would try some of their other items like Mee Goreng and Rojak and post my comments on those. It is definitely worth visiting this place for their Mutton Soup!
