This evening, a few of my old friends met up for dinner at our hometown and one of them suggested this particular restaurant that is located in Taman Universiti, Tanjung Malim. I have not tried this place but since one of my friend is a frequent goer here, he highly recommended this restaurant for their Tomyam and other Thai style dishes. As I am always open to trying out new food joints, I decided to check the place out.

The Restaurant |
The restaurant looked just like any other Kelantanese restaurant in town. Good that it was a corner unit as that enabled them to have both indoor and outdoor seating. The place was very crowded when we arrived, mostly students from the nearby university and they seemed a little short handed with staffs. We managed to get a place outside but it took them a while to clear the table that was filled with plates and leftovers from the previous patrons. We had to wait something like around 15 minutes before they were able to do that but I understand, these things just happens sometimes and what more when it's a public holiday. Once the table was cleared, I had requested them to pass us the menu and one of the waiter's did bring it almost immediately.

Their menu was quite standard but the prices were so cheap. This is perhaps the cheapest that I am seeing in Tanjung Malim. With that, we got on with ordering the dishes and resumed our conversation.
|
Teh O Ice @ RM 1.20 |
|
Sirap Bandung @ RM 1.40 |
It took them approximately 10 minutes to prepare the drinks and send over. As I mentioned before, they were definitely short on staffs. Both the drinks were good and they were amazingly cheap. I must agree that the Sirap Bandung was quite amazing though. I would rate this at 9.5/10 and the Teh O Ice at 8.5/10 .

White Rice @ RM 1.00 per Plate |
White Rice was charged RM 1.00 per plate. This is cheaper than the rest but the portions were quite small. In the end, each of us ended up having one and a half plates each.

Kailan Ikan Masin @ RM 4.00 |

Kailan Ikan Masin @ RM 4.00 |
This was a good preparation. The greens were fresh and they were lavish with the amount of salted fish added to the dish. I would say that for this particular dish, this is one of the better ones in town. For the price, the portion was very good too. I would rate this at 9/10 .

Sambal Belacan |
This was provided complimentary to all diners. Their Sambal was quite good but it lacked 'Belacan'. This was more like 'Cili Giling' added with some lime. Lacked the zing, otherwise it was nice. I would rate this at 7/10 .

Telur Bungkus @ RM 5.00 |

Telur Bungkus @ RM 5.00 |
This was another lovely dish. For just RM 5.00 , it was a heavenly dish served with a large portion of chicken bits cooked with onions and tomatoes and wrapped in an egg. Very good indeed and I would rate this at 9.4/10 .

Tomyam Ayam @ RM 4.00 |

Tomyam Ayam @ RM 4.00 |
Their Tomyam Ayam was good but it was not the best in town. Azz Corner does better Tomyam Soup than this. Nevertheless, it was still a good preparation and one of the thicker ones in town. It was both spicy and sour, just how a good Tomyam Soup should be. I would rate this at 8.8/10 .
Just a few simple dishes that we had but it was a lovely meal at very reasonable prices. I wonder how I missed this restaurant as it was right in an area that I frequent often. In short, good food and very cheap prices. A highly recommended restaurant!
