Steamed Chicken Ulu Bernam @ Hulu Bernam, Selangor

This entry is about a little restaurant located in Ulu Bernam, Tanjung Malim that is famous for two food items, their Steamed Chicken and Asam Laksa. This restaurant is located right beside Jalan Kilang Papan C just a few doors away from the famous Leong Kee.

Steamed Chicken
This restaurant does not have a name and is fondly called Steamed Chicken Ulu Bernam. Located beside a 2nd hand car dealer, this restaurant is very simple in layout and is run by a couple. Typically the husband does the cooking and the wife helps with the customers.

Coca Cola @ RM 2.00
They do have an assortment of Chinese Tea but since it was a very warm night, I decided to have a can of Coca Cola which was priced at RM 2.00

Belacan Sauce

Chili Paste
The Steamed Chicken here is very famous and is usually sold out quite fast, especially on weekends. The chicken is prepared from Kampung Chicken only and hence it has a much leaner meat and a harder flesh texture. Still, it is very juicy and delicious. A plate of the chicken only costs RM 2.00 and that is really cheap. Something different compared to the others out there. I would rate their Steamed Chicken at 8.7/10 . This is served with two different sauces. One is their Belacan Sauce which is super spicy and has a strong taste of belacan to it and the other, is their Chili Paste. Both their sauces are good and I would rate them at 8.4/10 .

Asam Laksa @ RM 3.50

Asam Laksa @ RM 3.50
It is unfortunate their their Laksa noodle was sold out and I had to make do with Mee Hoon. This was served in a large bowl with a very thick Laksa broth. The broth is the key here and it was wonderfully prepared. It had loads of fish in it and had a strong sour and slightly spicy taste. Definitely an excellent preparation and you do not get such good quality Laksa served in most places. I would rate this dish at 9.3/10 .

Fish Balls Noodles @ RM 3.50

Fish Balls Noodles @ RM 3.50
Their Fish Ball Noodles was served in a clear soup and came with some fish balls andFfuchok in it. The soup was flavourful and tasted really great. The fish balls were nothing to shout about but the key here is the soup that would be a taste to remember. I would rate this dish at 9/10 .

Overall, this little restaurant has definitely some good dishes to offer. The Steamed Chicken was good, their Asam Laksa was excellent and the Soup Fish Balls Noodles were once again good. Prices too were very cheap and would definitely be a good place for a quick meal.
