Hyderabad Recipes is a restaurant that is famous for their Hyderabad style Briyanis and Rotis. Their first branch is located at Jalan Putra, Kuala Lumpur and today they have four outlets throughout the Klang Valley. I recently bought some coupons from Groupon Malaysia and one of those was for this restaurant. Seemed like a good value to me but I am yet to find out. The procedure with these coupons is quite simple. You would have to check the validity period and then call in a few days in advance to make the booking by giving the coupon number. This has to be to the specific branch. I choose the outlet in Viva Mall, Ipoh Road as I am familiar with that area.

Hyderabad Recipes at Viva Mall, Jalan Ipoh |
Having reached this mall which is a row of shops right below a condominium, we parked the car at the visitors parking which is on the third floor of the parking lot. The rest of the floors are for the residents. Parking here is free and guarded. Initially it was a little tough to find this restaurant as I had parked at the rear of this restaurant but then after calling in, they guided me to the shop. It is on the first row facing Jalan Ipoh. In fact, there are limited bays right in front of this shop.

Breakdown of what is provided |
Well, the Groupon voucher only cost me RM 28.00 and it is supposed to have a retail value of RM 90.80 . That relates back to an individual cost of RM 14.00 for todays meal.

Well, the restaurant looks very classy and nice. It is also very clean and the service levels were quite efficient. The moment we stepped in, we were greeted and attended to immediately.

The Menu |
Once we took our seat, the menu was handed to us but then I handed out the Groupon Vouchers to him. Immediately, the waiter went up to the manager and called him. The manager then got me to fill in some particulars like name, IC number, Email address and Telephone Numbers and then finalised the orders as per the listing. I then also added some more items from the menu card as I felt that they would shrink the order size to accommodate the voucher pricing. Coming back to the menu, they definitely had a wide range of food to offer and many Hyderabad specialty dishes were listed here.

My Lunch Set @ RM 14.00 |
As expected, it was a simple version. As you can see, all the items listed in the offering list as per Groupon has been put into a single plate. So, there is no real value buy here. It is just samplers from the various dishes they have to offer. To list them I have half of the Mutton Tava Biryani, half of the Bhagaray Baingan, a little Dhal Tadka and a Gulab Jamun. If you walk in, you would get the full size meal which comes in individual containers. However, this is also a good idea as sometimes the full meals can be a little too much. This gave us an opportunity to taste many things here at a cheaper price. That is the positive side to this and in this case, the positive side was greater than the negatives. As for the taste, the Mutton Tava Biryani was delicious. The meat is not lumped together and is broken down so that it spreads evenly across the plate and the spices are also well balanced. I would rate this Biryani at 9.3/10 . The Bhagaray Baingan which is Eggplant in Spicy sauce was also another good dish here. That was also well done and I would rate it at 8.8/10 . The Gulab Jamun however was just average. I would only rate it at 6/10 .

Angie's Lunch Set @ RM 14.00 |
Angie got her set of Chicken Biryani, Dhall Tadka, Curd Raita and Rasagulla. The Chicken Biryani was just average compared to the mutton. The Rice was good but the chicken was a let down. It could be improved for sure. I would only rate the Chicken Biryani at 7.5/10 . The Dhall Tadka was nice too but not excellent. I would rate that at 8/10 and same goes to the Curd Raita. The Rasagulla was also average and it deserves a rating of 6.5/10 . Overall, the Mutton Biryani was surely better than the Chicken Biryani.
|
Naan |
Along with the above two sets, we also got two halves of Plain Naan. Initially I wanted to try their Rumali Roti which I heard from a friend that it is quite good but unfortunately they had not made it today. So I had to settle for the above. The Naan here is definitely different to other places. It is thinner and softer and tastes better. Must be another of their specialties. Pretty good actually. I would rate this Naan at 9/10 .

Mutton Fry Hyderabad Special @ RM 14.00 |
This Mutton dish was an additional one that I had ordered and was not part of the Groupon Vouchers. I must say that this is another fantastic dish here. The mutton chunks were soft and nice, cooked at the right level with the right spices. The spices had also seeped in well into the meat. Must have been marinated for at least overnight. A great dish. My ratings, 9.5/10 .

Lunch In Progress |
|
Hyderabadi Masala Tea @ RM 4.00 |
I also added on another Hyderabadi Masala Tea which cost RM 4.00 . This was another good tea but definitely not the best around. Being Masala Tea, it would have been better if more spices were thrown into the drink. My ratings, 8/10 .

Other Outlets |
Overall, this is a great place to have biryani and other Hyderabadi dishes. For sure, the Groupon Vouchers gave us an added value where we were able to sample more dishes, at small volumes and cost but their listing in the website whereby the RM 28.00 voucher equates to retail value of RM 90.80 is surely a lie. The portion sizes for Ala Carte orders as opposed to our were very different. We could immediately identify that by just looking at the tables around us. However, the food here is good, service is great and the prices are reasonable. The ambiance is also cosy. In fact at the end of our meal, the manager came up to us and asked if we had any complaints about the meal which is good of him to do so. Definitely a place that I would recommend.
