Restoran Shing Kee @ Tanjung Malim, Perak

I visited this restaurant sometime in mid August this year and that was about when they introduced some new dishes like Steamed Kampung Chicken Rice, Yong Tau Fu and White Pepper Pork Soup for dinner in addition to their existing lunchtime Mixed Rice business. Since then, the owner and I have become somewhat close and he gave me a ring a couple of days back informing me that he has also started doing Curry Mee for dinner and requested me to drop by whenever I am in town to give it a try. Having been impressed with his dishes the last trip here, I planned on dropping by this evening to try their Curry Mee instead and here I am. If you are keen to read my last review of this restaurant, do click on this link please: http://venoth.blogspot.my/2015/08/restoran-shing-kee-tanjung-malim-perak.html

Chinese Tea @ RM 0.50
I have given a very detailed write up the last time on their location and having provided the link here, I would just skip that and move on to the day's events. Having seen me, he was delighted, got excited and started preparing the Curry Mee. As for the drinks, I ordered the above Chinese Tea and this was priced at 50 cents per glass.

Could Choose To Have Steamed Chicken Or Yong Tau Fu Items

Choice Of Noodles Are Available Too

Oily It Was
He had asked me if I wanted to have this with the Steamed Kampung Chicken or Yong Tau Fu and I went for the previous. In a matter of minutes, the dish was served. This was priced at RM 5.00 for a decent sized portion. One look at it and I was in fear. It was so oily that I could drown and die in it having possibly clogged all my arteries even as I consume the dish. Having had no choice, I calmed myself and started having the noodles. The 'Curry' was tasty, seriously tasty, with no Coconut Milk added but it would surely freak out health conscious people. I who am mostly relaxed too freaked out this time. Friendship sake, I continued to finish it and yes, I finished it. As mentioned earlier, it was indeed tasty. How can it no be tasty with so much oil in it and I was certain that I was going to pay the price later this evening. As expected, I ended up having diarrhea the whole evening. How shall I rate this..... Okay, taste wise, it would be 7/10.

But if I were to look back and think if I should even consume this, then it's a big no. Well, you've seen the dish yourself and I am sure that one would be able to gauge if they should even go for this. As of now, I would definitely return to try the other dishes but certainly not this.

  1. Hopefully you're feeling better now. It does looked a little bit oily probably because there was no coconut milk in it to balance it out, just my thought though. Am no cooking expert :-)

    1. Hey Bro Swaroop! Good to see you here Sir! Thank you for the advise and that's exactly what I did. I do the same with every place that I try. Give them immediate feedback and most of them appreciate it. Hope to see you here more often too ;)
