Restaurant Hock Kee Ulu Yam Loh Mee is located at the The Strand, Kota Damansara. It is located at the rear block and along the same stretch as the Nikon Academy and The Uma Balinese Restaurant. I am not sure how this restaurant is connected to the one in Ulu Yam as that one is called Restaurant Hock Choon Kee but nevertheless, these guys offer the very same menu and at the same quality. Could be an initiative of the children and this is just a wild guess. As far as Hock Kee Ulu Yam Loh Mee is concerned, they have three outlets in the Klang Valley. The first one was opened in Bukit Tinggi Klang, the second one in Bandar Puchong Jaya and the latest one is this outlet in Kota Damansara.

Interior of the Restaurant |
I arrived here quite early today and it was about 7 pm and there were just a few other tables that were occupied. As time passed on, the restaurant became full house and customers had to wait outside while a table was prepared for them. Seems like this restaurant has good support from the locals. Well, even their waiters were very friendly so much so when you asked something about the food and they could not answer, the chef who seems to be the owner would come out and answer all your questions and he did that not only to me but also with a few other tables and that's great customer service.

The Menu |
Their menu is a two sided laminated cardboard. What you see above is just from one side and these are their signature dishes. The other side was more of the other dishes that you would have with white rice and so there is a choice here weather you would like to try only their signature noodle dishes or those other chicken / pork / fish dishes with white rice. Do note that the portion sizes here are really huge. Even the noodle dishes which are supposed to be for one person, can be shared among three and is sufficient for a single serving.
White Coffee @ RM 2.50 |
As for the drinks, I ordered the above White Coffee which was priced at RM 2.50 . Their coffee was quite nice, not too sweet or bitter and I would rate it at 8.2/10 .
Ulu Yam Loh Mee @ RM 6.50 |
This dish was exactly like how it is served in Hock Choon Kee in Ulu Yam. The Noodles were springy, soft and wonderful, the broth was dark and thick and it came with loads of prawns, fried pork belly and fried lard. Taste wise, it was 100% identical. And as for the portion size, I could not finish more than two thirds of it as it was really huge and this is meant to be for one person. Definitely a well prepared dish and I enjoyed it very much. I would rate this dish at 9.8/10 .
Fried Fish Cake @ RM 9.00 |
Another specialty dish at Hock Chook Kee in Ulu Yam is the above Fried Fish Cake and they had the same here. This was really delicious. The skin was thin and lovely and the fish cake itself was very soft, fluffy, fresh and delicious. This dish comes with a sweet and spicy dip sauce on the side but honestly, you can even have it on it's own and it would be equally delicious. I would rate this at 10/10 .
Although the name varies a little between this one and the one back in Ulu Yam, the dishes are identical both in offering as well as taste. The prices are fairly decent and the portions are mega huge. I did observe some of those tables that had ordered the medium sized ones and they seemed like good to feed a family of five. I definitely plan to return here to try the other dishes too and hopefully, it could be in a larger group as then I would get to try more of their dishes in a single visit.

I won't recommend this place at all. Even if I have to starve myself. Waited for 30 mins and my food haven't come. Rubbish.
ReplyDeleteThat's a ridiculously long wait. I would have just walked out. Should have made some noise and raised it with the owners.
