Gyuniku Signature @ Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur

Restaurant Gyuniku has been around since the year 2002 in Hartamas and it is just recently that they have started another outlet called Gyuniku Signature in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. This restaurant specialises in a whole load of beef dishes right from Beef Ball Kuey Teow Soup, Tamarind Beef in Claypot and many more dishes that hail from the state of Penang. Besides these beef dishes, they also offer a handful of other dishes which are chicken based. Although I do not eat beef, I was particularly interested in trying two of their dishes and they are their Wet Popiah and Sauteed Lamb Rice, both of which are my favourites.

The Drinks Station
This restaurant has the Halal status and as such, you would find a number of Muslim customers here. This restaurant is located along the same row of shops as the old Apollo Medical Centre in TTDI. Do note that Mondays are their off days and they are open the rest of the week. I was waiting to visit this place on a weekend as the rest of the week, parking here can be a great challenge. This restaurant has a rustic look to it. There are quite a number of tables placed outside the restaurant for smokers and of course, it is air conditioned on the inside.

The Menu
The staffs here are very attentive to customers needs and attend to them almost immediately. When I walked in for lunch today, I was immediately attended to and ushered to my table and provided with the menu. The above are just a few pages from their very elaborate menu. We all know their signature beef dishes but these Chicken and Lamb dishes along with the Popiah are things that are not available at their Hartamas outlet. That is the reason that I specifically photographed these pages. As I already knew what I wanted, ordering was fairly quick.

Honey Lime Cold @ RM 4.50
I ordered the above Honey Lime Cold as the weather was rather hot today and this would be soothing. The drink was good but definitely not the best that I had tried. They had used dried shredded lime which is good but it was not enough and this gave it a rather diluted taste. It would have been better if more of it would have been added. I would rate this drink at 7.5/10 .

Wet Popiah @ RM 5.00
The Popiah arrived in less than 10 minutes. I was informed by the waiter that all the food here are freshly prepared to order and the Popiah was hot when it arrived. What I did not like was that the ingredients were soaked and as a result it made the Popiah tear very easily. It was also not properly cut and there were occasions when two pieces were still attached at the base by the skin and as you tried to lift one, the other tears. Taste wise, it was nice but it lacked sauces. It could also be that since it was soaked, it could have washed away the taste of the sauces and giving it a rather dull taste instead of the usual rich taste. I would rate this Wet Popiah at 5/10 .

Sauteed Lamb Rice @ RM 15.00
This dish was rather good and I loved the way that the gravy was poured all over the rice. It came with loads of Lamb, Onions and a Fried Egg. I do not have much comments on this dish as I think that it was very well prepared. Everything about this dish was just right. I would rate this dish at 9/10 .

Definitely my reviews are not 100% representative of their offerings as I have tried their least popular dishes. It is like going to a Fast Food restaurant and ordering a Chinese dish and assuming that that dish should represent their entire overall standards. I understand that and my reviews are strictly limited to the above two dishes that I had tried today and I am very confident that their Beef Ball Noodle Soup must surely be very good or else they would not be able to be in business all these years and what more expansions. For me, I would definitely return for their Sauteed Lamb Rice but not their Wet Popiah.
