Kumutha Curry House @ Sungai Buloh, Selangor

Whenever I take the route heading to the NKVE using the Hospital Sungai Buloh Tol Plaza, I have always seen this restaurant along that route  but have never tried them out. This afternoon, as we were on that same route, I suggested to my brother that we should give this place a try for lunch. It was already 2.30 pm and being a cowboy town, I was not sure if food would still be available at this hour. Nevertheless, we still decided on trying our luck here.

Kumutha Curry House along Jalan Hospital, Sungai Buloh

Ample Parking Spaces

Right Beside This Mini Market
This restaurant is located right after the turning heading to the Sungai Buloh Komuter Station. Assuming that you are coming from Sungai Buloh or Saraswathi Tamil School, keep going straight until you come to a set of traffic lights. At this point, if you turn left, it would be heading into the Rahman Putra Industrial Zone and also to the Komuter Station. Go straight at this lights and within 100 meters, you would be able to see this restaurant on your  left. There are ample parking spaces here and this restaurant is attached to a Mini Market, not sure if owners are the same. Shortly ahead, there would be a Hindu Temple on your right which you should be able to see clearly from here.

Tender Coconuts are available too

Air-Conditioned Dining Room For Customer's Dining Comfort
The restaurant was not too large but it was good enough to seat 50 to 60 people comfortably. The entire neighbourhood was more like a village and it was this restaurant with the attached Mini Market that were built using bricks. This restaurant also has an air-conditioned dining room for customers dining comfort. At the entrance, I also saw that they had some tender coconuts which were available for customers.

Curries Available

Vegetarian Food Items
We walked up to the Curries Station to see what was available at this hour. They have segregated vegetarian and non vegetarian items which is a good practice. Most of the vegetarian items seems to have been sold out but there were still some vegetables left in small quantities.

Non Vegetarian Dishes

Non Vegetarian Dishes
Their Non Vegetarian items looked good and there was a wide spread available though the volume had significantly reduced as a matter of them being sold out. We then asked for a plate and started taking our food items and then returned to our table.

Warm Water @ RM 0.30
We then ordered two glasses of warm water which was priced at RM 0.30 per glass. The service here was very fast and efficient and the staffs were consistently on their feet. One waiter was assigned to a table and he was dedicated to serving us until we were done. That's an excellent practice.

My Meal @ RM 5.00
My meal consisted of a huge portion of rice, Sambar and another large portion of Mutton Perattal and it was very reasonably priced at RM 5.00 .

Sambar
Their Sambar was thick and delicious. Just see how good it was from the above photograph. It tasted really good. I would highly recommend this and would rate it at 8.8/10 .

Mutton Perattal
Their Mutton Perattal was heavenly. It was a good Mutton Perattal that I have not had in a very long time. Tasted just like home cooked food. There was just a small amount of fat and the rest were plain lean meat. The gravy too was delicious! Loved it! I would rate this at 9.7/10 .

Rasam

Rasam
Their Rasam again was very very good! Hardly you get this kind of Rasam these days. They were not stingy with the amount of spices used and the end result was heavenly. I would rate this at 9.7/10 .

My Brother's Meal @ RM 5.50
My brother's meal was slightly more as he had taken two meat dishes. He had plain rice along with some Chicken Perattal, Squid Sambal and Bean Sprouts.

Bean Sprouts
The Bean Sprouts tasted very much the same as in any other Indian restaurant however, they had added in other vegetables like diced carrots and small pieces of Tofu into the dish which makes it special when compared to the norms. The Bean Sprouts too were fresh and not overcooked. I would rate this vegetable at 7/10 .

Squid Sambal
Their Squid Sambal was excellent! It was fresh, cooked to perfection with just the right amount of chilies making it a perfect dish. Both of us enjoyed this very much, of course I did steal a little from his plate just to taste. I would rate this at 9.3/10 .

Chicken Perattal
Their Chicken Perattal too was nothing less when compared to their earlier dishes. Soft and tender chicken chunks have been cooked to perfection and this was accompanied by a thick and spicy gravy. Both the chicken and the gravy were awesome. I would rate this at 9.3/10 .

On the whole, our dining experience today was a very satisfying meal. Every dish tasted very good and I was impressed to see how a small village restaurant like this could churn out such delicacies and that too at very reasonable prices. I am definitely planning on coming back as this place is not too far from where I live.  Definitely a highly recommended restaurant! I also love the fact that the owner kept asking us how the food was when we were paying the bill. Definitely one of those that value customers' feedback. Keep up the great work guys!

  1. Went to this restaurant for lunch on your review. Prices were reasonable and food was tasty but cold. They need food warmers and shoud serve piping hot rice. I am probably spoilt by all the well known banana leaf and nasi kandar places.

    1. I am sorry to hear of your experience and would definitely agree with you on the point of food being served hot. Sad that you experienced that. The next time I am there, would certainly highlight this to the owner. Thank you for the feedback.
