Village Pot @ Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur

Restaurant Village Pot is a Chinese restaurant located on the Ground Floor of Hartamas Shopping Centre. They specialise in Claypot Rice and Noodle dishes. Initially I came here looking for another restaurant called The Meat Experts and when I could not find it, I checked with the Information Counter and was informed that they had closed down in July this year. Having set my mind on the other restaurant, I was not sure what to have and after some thinking and walking, I just walked in to this restaurant to try them out.

All their staffs were foreigners including those in the kitchen. The kitchen was clearly visible from the dining area as the area is rather small and it is just separated by a glass panel. One of the waiters was standing outside the restaurant and trying to attract customers to the restaurant by explaining their offerings. When I arrived here, it was quiet but after some time, it was almost full and they had quite a lot of customers who did take aways.

The Menu
Their menu was limited to the Claypot Noodles and Claypot Rice and a few other soups and vegetables. It was simply just two sheets of single page laminates. Going through their menu was not a great task and I was able to decide on my dishes fairly quick. I just ordered a vegetable dish, a soup and a Claypot Rice with additional Salted Fish. Claypot Rice has always been one of my favourites and I have tried them in most places that claim to be the best. Let me see how this one fares.

Yau Mak in Oyster Sauce and Onion Oil @ RM 5.00
The above vegetable dish is quite a common and simple preparation found in most places like these and I am quite fond of this dish. For the price of RM 5.00, I find that the portion size is rather huge. The vegetables too were very fresh and the Onion Oil was lavish along with dashes of Oyster Sauce on the top. Together, it was a wonderful blend and the dish came out very well. I enjoyed this dish and would rate it at 9/10 .

Claypot Rice with Chicken & Chinese Sausage @ RM 8.90 + Add Salted Fish @ RM 2.00
Usually when you say add extra salted fish, it does not seem like there was any extra put in but that was not the case here. The dish was packed with salted fish and along with the Chicken and Chinese Sausage, it was fantastic. The sauce was also very lavish and when you mix it all up, there was enough sauce to wet the entire rice and the way that this guy had prepared it, there weren't much burnt crust on the sides. He must have kept the flames low and that explains the long cooking time. Taste wise, this is definitely one of the best ones I have tried in Kuala Lumpur. Honestly, for the Chicken & Chinese Sausage dish, this is definitely much better than Busy Corner in Damansara Jaya and also the one available in Pavillion Kuala Lumpur's food court. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish as it was packed with flavours. Never once did I not get the full flavours when eating. I would rate this dish at 10/10 .

Bursting Pork Ball in Soup @ RM 4.00
As the final dish, I ordered the above Pork Balls in clear soup. 4 pieces of the Pork Balls came at RM 4.00 and that amounts to RM 1.00 each. The soup was very good and it did not have any MSG taste to it. The Pork Balls however had a filling which was a mixture of some vegetable and Pork meat and it was not quite to my liking. Assuming that it had been plain and without any filling, I feel that it would have been much better. The filling was scanty and that brought the quality down. I would only rate this dish at 6.5/10 .

Despite the fact that this restaurant is run by foreigners and the food being prepared by them as well, they do serve excellent food. Their Claypot Chicken Rice was definitely much better to many of those famous places selling the same. I wonder how their Claypot Noodles would be like. Perhaps, I should return another day to try them as well. Definitely a recommended place for good Claypot Chicken Rice.
