Hari's Stall isn't new to the locals in Tanjung Malim. This stall is located along Jalan Ketoyong, right opposite the Old Folks Home. Previously he had attempted on opening his own restaurant but sadly, that didn't quite work out as the rental was just too high for his kind of turnover. Having closed that restaurant in town, he moved back to this present location which is just a short distance from his home.

Clearly Visible From Afar |
The stall is a very simple set up with probably around eight tables only. He starts business around 6.30 pm and this goes on till midnight. His off days aren't fixed but he tries his best to open daily, unless some emergency comes about. It is very much a family owned business and the stall is manned by his family members. I have been dining here for some time now and almost everyday, for some reason come here to get either some dinner items or even snacks. I have blogged about this place a couple of weeks back and that was to showcase some of his vegetarian dishes. Today, it is a dine in and would be solely sharing some of his non vegetarian dishes. Most people come here for quick takeaways and a handful of dine-ins. Most of his customers are those living in this neighbourhood but I have seen some that come from afar too. The main reason for that is the home cooked style food that he offers and the prices too are very reasonable. In fact, they are much lower than the common stall and restaurant prices. Now, let's have a look at the dishes that I had for dinner today.
|
Teh Tarik @ RM 1.00 |
The common price these days for a glass of Teh Tarik would be RM 1.30 but he only charges RM 1.00 . Honestly, it's not so great when we compare to those Indian Muslim restaurants that fix a perfect cup of tea. This was quite ordinary. I would rate this at 6.5/10 .

Nasi Lemak @ RM 5.00 |
|
Nasi Lemak @ RM 5.00 |
His price for the standard Nasi Lemak is RM 2.50 and this comes with an egg and some Anchovies Sambal. I added some Mutton Perattal and that was priced at RM 2.50 and hence the total of RM 5.00 .
|
Coconut Milk Rice |
The rice is cooked with coconut milk and is creamy and very fragrant. One of the good Tamil style Nasi Lemak's in town and I would rate the rice preparation at 8.8/10 . The Fried Peanuts and Cucumber too were fresh.
|
Omelette |
He also provides an Omelette with the Nasi Lemak. If you do not want the Omelette, then you get a discount of 50 cents. The Omelette is just the common ones fried on the pan with no salt or pepper added.

Anchovies & Onion Sambal |
|
Anchovies & Onion Sambal |
This is a good preparation. It is made using Anchovies, diced Onions and prepared with some spicy Chili Paste. Spicy and tasty! One of those Tamil style Nasi Lemak's in town that I truly love. I would rate this at 8.5/10 .

Mutton Perattal |
|
Mutton Perattal |
The Mutton Perattal, not one that is available daily, is simply awesome here. It is made with some thick, spicy gravy and is simply delicious. The cuts too are tender and juicy. Another thing that I love about their Mutton here is simply the quality of the cuts. You do not get those bones and fatty pieces, all lean meat cuts which are cooked to perfection. I would rate this at 9/10 .
|
Clean Plate |
Well, this should give you an indication as to how good the food here is. Not a grain of rice is left behind and it is a clean scoop.

Sambal Fish @ RM 1.50 |
|
Sambal Fish @ RM 1.50 |
Their Sambal Fish is also quite nice, not great but nice. Very much like home cooked preparation. I still prefer their Tenggiri Fish Sambal which I have tried in the past but sadly that was not available tonight and as such, I had to go for this. The fish had been fried first and then added to some spicy sambal. I would rate this at 7/10 .

Chicken Sambal @ RM 2.50 |

Chicken Sambal @ RM 2.50 |
|
Chicken Sambal @ RM 2.50 |
This had a very similar style of cooking as the earlier Fish Sambal. Decently sized chicken chunks were deep fried and then added to some spicy sambal. Tasty but not that great. I would rate this at 7/10 .
|
Tofu Sambal @ RM 0.50 each |
|
Tofu Sambal @ RM 0.50 each |
Their Tofu Sambal was excellent! Absolutely loved the preparation. Despite being fried, the Tofu was soft and still sweet and the sambal added a fierce touch to it. Loved it and I would rate this at 9/10 .
Overall, I must say that I am a very happy customer at Hari's. His food is good and the prices are so reasonable. If you happen to be in Tanjung Malim, I would recommend that you give this stall a try. Ask anyone where the Old Folks Home is and this stall is located right opposite it. Brightly lit up and so it is difficult to miss it. Besides these, he also sells home cooked style Mee Hoon Goreng, Mee Goreng, Tosai, Roti Canai and occasionally, Poori.
Address: Along Jalan Ketoyong, 35900 Tanjung Malim, Perak, Malaysia.
