Satay Boss @ Tanjung Malim, Perak

Satay Boss (a.k.a. Restoran S.S. Satay), one of the famous Satay groups from Seri Kembangan that had recently taken over a satay restaurant in town which was previously known as Satay Kolumpo. I have tried their Satay sometime early this year and have blogged about it too. Pretty decent Satay I must say but there are not many who know that they also serve some other signature dishes as well. They are their Laksa, Mee Rebus and Mee Udang.

Satay Boss Located Beside Old Town White Coffee

Clean And Simple Layout
Despite having been around for years now, there is no proper signage at this restaurant. Easy to locate though. They are located right between Old Town White Coffee and Oscar Computers which is in Taman Anggerik Desa. They only operate in the evenings and stay opened till around midnight. Their Laksa and Mee Rebus tends to get sold out pretty fast and so it is best to be there around 6 pm. There had been numerous occasions when I arrived around 8 pm and both those dishes were sold out. So, best to be here early. Their Satay too sells out fast but not as early as 8pm. The restaurant has a very simple layout. Ordering can be done at your table as there would always be someone who would come up to your table and get the orders.

Teh O @ RM 1.50
Since I was there early, there were not many dine-in's and mostly takeaways and hence, the service staffs were quite free and I got a royal reception. Everything happened very fast, and this includes the preparation of the drink and food. Now, coming to their Teh O. This was priced at RM 1.50, pricey I feel and in all honesty, it wasn't anything great. In fact, it tasted below average. Not one that I liked and I would rate this at 4.5/10 .

Laksa @ RM 4.00

Laksa @ RM 4.00

Whole Hard Boiled Eggs

Asam Keping

Thick Fish Broth

Thick Fish Broth
Their Laksa was priced at RM 4.00 per bowl. The portion wasn't huge, in fact a heavy eater like me would be easily able to consume three of those. However, the taste was very good. The fish broth was amazingly thick and tasty. They also added a whole hard boiled egg that had been thinly sliced along with some diced onions, bird eye chilies and mind leaves. Very tasty indeed. As a matter of fact, I feel that this is the best Malay style Laksa that I have tasted in Tanjung Malim. Excellent quality and I would rate this at 9.3/10 .

Mee Rebus @ RM 5.00

Mee Rebus @ RM 5.00

Sweet & Spicy Broth

Comes With Mee

Eggs Too
Their Mee Rebus was priced at RM 5.00 per bowl and the portion was bigger to that of the earlier dish. It tasted good too but it wasn't impressive or mind blowing like the earlier Laksa. The broth was sweet and spicy, just the way it should be. Do take note that they add a lot of diced bird eye chilies into the broth and you might want to watch out for that. In short, it was nice but not great! I would have preferred the one from Jalal or Ghani anytime over this. I would rate this at 7/10 .

Unfortunately, their Mee Udang was sold out for the day and I could not get to taste it this evening. From the above two dishes, I would definitely return for their Laksa but not for their Mee Rebus. Perhaps it was just not up to my preference. Do check their Laksa out if you happened to be in this part of town.
